February 22, 200719 yr http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php? ... cleId=3618 Make no mistake about it: the de-facto repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA) is an ominous assault on American democratic tradition and jurisprudence. The 1878 Act, which reads, "Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both," is the only U.S. criminal statute that outlaws military operations directed against the American people under the cover of 'law enforcement.' As such, it has been the best protection we've had against the power-hungry intentions of an unscrupulous and reckless executive, an executive intent on using force to enforce its will. Unfortunately, this past week, the president dealt posse comitatus, along with American democracy, a near fatal blow. Consequently, it will take an aroused citizenry to undo the damage wrought by this horrendous act, part and parcel, as we have seen, of a long train of abuses and outrages perpetrated by this authoritarian administration. But why is this important? It's important because of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which have paved the way for the erosion of citizens rights. The military, the FAA and NORAD, all failed to follow procedure and demonstrated criminal incompetence on the morning of September eleventh. The 9/11 Commission Report shows this clearly. The FBI and the CIA not only showed criminal negligence in their response to warnings of an attack, they actively disrupted investigations into possible hijackers (Colleen Rowleys memo to the FBI director). Every day we live with the affects of 9/11 on our lives. We can be wiretapped without approval, jailed and convicted in a military tribunal, and ultimately be subjected to martial law, yet the most damaging and basic questions about 9/11 remain unanswered. Standard Operating Procedures Standard operating procedures dictate that if an FAA flight controller notices anything that suggests a possible hijacking--if radio contact is lost, if the plane's transponder goes off, or if the plane deviates from its flight plan---the controller is to contact a superior. If the problem cannot be fixed quickly̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ã
February 22, 200719 yr Hah, I clicked on this thinking it said "Marital" law and was confused for a few minutes. I highly doubt Bush is going to call Martial Law. It's only rarely been used by Governors, and almost never been used by the President (I think Lincoln was the last one to issue it). My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. February 23, 200719 yr No matter how liberal they are, every single person I have talked to about 9/11 conspiracy theories think they are a crock of bull. February 23, 200719 yr Author It is easy to label things conspiracy theories, but common sense will tell you that we don't know the whole truth about 9/11. Theories abound. And really, why shouldn't they. What else could possibly be expected when this government, this President, blocked the creation of the commission to investigate the biggest mass murder in American history. And what else could possibly be expected when this President then hand-picked the commission members after losing his battle for "silence"? And then there was the "mission statement" of the commission itself, or rather, the NON-mission statement: "Our purpose is not to assign RESPONSIBILITY for the attacks". This, by the DIRECTIVE of the President AS A CONDITION FOR THE CREATION OF THE COMMISSION. http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne ... w_noth.htm Yet that isn't the point of this thread. Where have our liberties gone? Where was the outrage over the Patriot Act and this more recent removal of boundaries regarding martial law? When did a little temporary security become more important than our rights?

February 23, 200719 yr We don't know everything about 9/11, but the chances the government knew or were behind it are almost zero. It only makes sense for them to be behind it in retrospect because of what is happening now. February 23, 200719 yr Author We don't know everything about 9/11, but the chances the government knew or were behind it are almost zero. It only makes sense for them to be behind it in retrospect because of what is happening now. I'm really trying to encourage discussion on the rapid loss of rights which took place shortly after 9/11, rather then debate who was behind the attack itself. Yet, why do you think there is only a small chance of government foreknowledge? Are you aware of the insider trading before 9/11?

It only makes sense for them to be behind it in retrospect because of what is happening now. I'm just bringing up some of the problems with the official account and trying to encourage discussion on the rapid loss of rights which took place shortly after 9/11. Please make some attempt to back up your opinions. Why do you think there is only a small chance anybody had foreknowledge of the attacks? Especially now that we are aware of the massive insider trading before 9/11? Yes, it all does point to them knowing, however... Something like that would be the biggest secret in government. Noone in the Bush administration would even have known about it. It would have been FAR above them in the "Black Ops" type stuff. There is a lot of stuff even the President, the highest rank in government, doesn't know about. So if it was someone in our "government", they weren't necessarily part of what we know as government. :P The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!

Your basic civil liberties are gone, because you are apathetic. What does it matter if it's a shadow government or the real government doing it? Why aren't you in the streets protesting? February 23, 200719 yr Good God, you sound like Olbermann when he uses his "IMPORTANT VOICE" when talking about the end of Habeus Corpus. Although, that decision struck fear with me. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
February 23, 200719 yr Author Good God, you sound like Olbermann when he uses his "IMPORTANT VOICE" when talking about the end of Habeus Corpus. Olbermann...Ah, I forgot about him. I don't watch alot of TV, but I remember this quote: Who has left this hole in the ground? We have not forgotten, Mr. President. You have. May this country forgive you He is a bit bombastic, isn't he? But at least he speaks the truth a fair portion of the time. http://www.rollingstone.com/nationalaffairs/?p=943 Although, that decision struck fear with me. _________________ Yeah.
