Magic (F2P)

Hello I am kind of new to this game but am very interested in training my magic and range skills! (because I am tired of walking to everywhere and would like to teleport + I saved up a lot of arrows from monsters lol)

I tried reading some guides but failed to get much info out of them... basically I trained my magic up to 19 casting weaken (really hard I can only cast it once per monster for a while!).. I heard a lot about curse? or "failed curse"? could someone please elaborate?

If there are better methods to leveling at this lvl or close to it in the future, please share.. I am not willing to buy mind/chaos/death runes because they are so expensive but if you find the exp vs. money ratio is good I will consider trying it out

Thank you

much to say so ill try to be brief

curse is better than weaken, it provides more xp per cast

"failed curse" - intentionally failing the curse spell, if u fail, u can keep casting since the target's stats have not yet changed, the less often u hit, the longer u can cast on 1 target

-much faster than successfully casting a curse and having to wait for the target's stast to regenerate

to fail the curse spell:

wear anything that isnt mage clothing, metal armor works best

-the metal armor will negatively affect casting spells so u can fail more often, and failing is what u want here

next best methods?:

curse is best method up to lvl 55 mage according to ur restrictions

-at lvl 55, u cast high alchemy, simply converts any item into its cash value

-at around lvl 35, u can cast lumbridge teleport, some people just keep casting this which gets 40 xp i think but is much more expensive, each cast will cost 300+ gp

~~however, using mind/chaos/deaths, u can kill monsters and get some money from the items they drop, u should consider this if u find a monster which drops good items

curse is a spell that lowers a opponents def by 5%, a failed curse is as the name says, the spell when it didnt work. you get EXP everytime you cast a spell and for damage wise also, id say grab a few mind runes and air staff, head over to the wizards tower in draynor (south-south west of lumby on the compass) go upstairs to top floor and cast magic at the lv 82 lesser demon, dont worry it cant hit you, its behind bars for us all to laugh at :XD:

thanks so much for your guys' help, I just used curse (or failed curse!) on the monk of zamorack in varrok, super fast. now my magic is lvl 39

does anybody have any recommendations as to where a good place to safely cast magic from are? I will consider using chaos runes for crumble undead or something soon (I heard it's effective...)

If you're going to use Crumble undead, do it here;

Varrock sewers. - Go to a quiet world and you'll be fine. - Theres about 5 Zombies normally.

Also, if you'd prefer, there is a safe spot for skeletons to the east.

Congrats!

Btw, if you were doing it right, you would fail every cast and would

be able to cast almost non-stop.

That depends if you want to pick up the bones and/or loot.

A popular spot to Curse and/or cast Crumble Undead is to use the spot

that Gin_and_Tonic mentioned. Namely, cast from the key room in the Varrock sewers.

Another spot is to cast in the screen/torture room in the white knight castle in Fally.

The white knights are not aggressive and you can cast through the screen at them.

The drops are bones and iron junk mostly.

Well, Curse always gives 29 magic exp per cast.

Crumble Undead averages about 39 magic exp per cast.

Curse costs about 30 gp per cast or less.

Crumble costs about 105 gp per cast.

So to earn 1131 in magic exp would cost you 1170 gp with Curse

but it would cost you 3045 with Crumble Undead.

That's about 2.6 times as expensive for the same exp.

So, Crumble is faster, but it's rather expensive to use.

Also, F2P can make all of the runes for Curse but the runes for

Crumble will require money (or a lot of time).

Finally, make sure to get your magic attack stat to -68 or so

to be able to always fail when casting.

Hope this helps

I've been a firestrike fiend for so long, I've almost forgotten any other forms of training, though having high runecrafting (to get 4x minds on that long trip) helps a lot. Some of the more hairy (un)safe spots do need enough hitpoints to survive getting there and popping out for drops, if you want to take on red level monsters for better drops.

One thing, if you combat train for mage XP, hitpoints and drops, then take some curse spells as well, this time, you want the spell to hit, as the 5% defence reduction should mean fewer misses.

Though not "safe" going mage to mage with wizards using fire strike, has the greatest potential for collecting better runes, since the wizards drop a much higher proportion of assorted runes, including good ones like chaos, nats, laws.

On the dark wizards, watch out for the level 20's, aggressive until you are over level 40, and packing considerably more punch than the level 7's.
