1.Why?

I have decided to create this guide because there will always be new members, in need of information about the new areas,skills,items and general content that they will encounter. I became a member, in December 2007, and I am happy to say that to my consideration, I have gathered enough knowledge to embark in such a mission, of writing a complete guide for new members.

2.How?

I am currently thinking of splitting the guide in 2, one side for the member skills and another one for the f2p skills, specifically the way they are influenced in members.We shall see what remains of this idea.For the 1st part, I will most likely use a table-like structure, allowing each members skill a cell.There are currently 9 member skills:

Agility-Construction-Farming-Fletching-Herblore-Hunter-Slayer-Summoning-Thieving. For the 2nd part I will give a general idea of how the f2p skills are influenced.

3.When?

I will try to make these guide into a complete one, so I will not rush with it, 1 skill at a time. School will dent the time I will be able to play, thus collect information for the guide.You will just have to be patient.

4.General Information

The items that you used in f2p pale in comparison to the variety of items that you are offered in members. Remember the old days when you used runes for most teleports well before the addition of the explorers ring(3) as the reward of the f2p diary. The number of items that you can use to teleport is increased grately in members, just to name a few: Amulet of Glory( in all 4 types of charging), Skills Necklace(same description as the Amulet of glory), Games Necklace(has 8 charges but I advise you to store the (1) charge versions and sell them in the Grand Exchange,strangely enough they do sell, if you do not want to waste money on new necklaces), Dueling Ring(same description as Games Necklaces),Teleport Tables(that you can make in your own home, basically space savers).My advice is to buy a few of these items(10 Games Necklaces- 10 Dueling Rings) as they will help you greately in your travels. I also advise you to keep a secondary item, for the most accesible items from your bank, basically having 2 items of the same type in your bank.You can play without doing this, but everytime you withdraw an item the whole organisation in your bank will most likely be ruined.

[hide=Dual items]14snwyf.jpg[/hide]

As you can see from the picture, most of the items are double,the ones that are not I almost never use so they do not matter to me so much that I would get a 2nd item of that kind.

[hide=Means of teleport]2w2lf09.png[/hide]

These are the items that I use for most of my travels, as they allow for quick restocking of food/potions, in case of emergency.

[hide=Big picture]2sbnbz8.png[/hide]

This rather big picture, shows you most of the new areas in member's.I will take them one by one, but I first wanted to present you with the teleport locations with the help of the 3 types of jewelerry-teleports presented above, from left to right.

Green squares->Dueling rings.First teleport on the left is the Castle Wars Arena, which allows you to play the minigame with the same name(Castle Wars).The 2nd teleport is Fist of Guthix minigame(that you might know from F2p).The 3rd is the Al Kharid Duel Arena(that you might also know from F2p).

Pink squares->Glory amulets.First teleport is the island of Karamja, near the fishing docks.2nd teleport is Edgeville (w99 usually hosts a few Tip.It'ers in the Edgeville bank or near the village).3rd teleport is the village of Draynor.4th and final teleport with Glories(another name for Amulets of Glory), is the city of Al Kharid, inside the castle courtyard.

Blue squares->Games necklaces.First teleport is the Barbarian Outpost.2nd teleport is the Burthorpe Games Room.3rd teleport is the Bounty Hunter mountain,with a close "rival",in the shape of the 4th teleport spot,Clan Wars Arena.As you can see, most of these teleports are related to minigames but they also allow you to move faster in the areas.

Areas of interest

Although most of the new areas that are revealed to you, as a new member are just waiting to be explored, there are quite a few that require quests in order to access them.

I will start with the new areas that do not require a quest in order to access them. First of these is the great Kharidian Desert.It is situated south of Al-Kharid extending until the boarders of the map.In f2p you were limited to the chat with Shantay, you can now buy a pass for 5gp.This will allow you to explore the desert.I recommend that you also buy from Shantay a few waterskins as you will take a drink of water during the travels, in the desert.If you only buy a few(1-2), you might also want to buy a knife, so you can refill the waterskins when they are almost empty.You simply click on a cactus and it you succeed in cutting it correctly, the waterskins will be refilled.As you can see from the map, the desert hosts 3 important cities:Pollvineach,Nardah and Sophanem.You can enter the first two, without any requirements, but you will have to start a quest, for the 3rd one.That quest is Icthlarin's Little Helper.During the first cut-scenes, you will find a way to enter the city, using a rock near the quest start.If you want to complete the quest you can do so, if not you can enter the city from that rock.If you do not wish to move on foot, you can use the flying carpet system.Each ride will cost you 200gp at the beginning, you will be able to reduce this tax , but in my opinion it is not worth it.Just pay the tax and be on your way.You cannot use the carpet system while having a weapon equipped, so think about that when you start exploring the desert.A secondary carpet route will be available to the deserted "town", Uzer, after finishing a quest relating to the desert.

[hide=Desert]5z4cxf.png[/hide]

The next area is the great Island of Karamja.The first way to enter this area is through the gate, that leads into Brimhaven village.You will have to travel to the old Karamja side, same as in f2p if you want to take the boat or you can use a glory charge and tele in the banana plantation near the docks.From there you go past the volcano and you will reach at a small gate.You can enter it and be in the village of Brimhaven.An important note to Brimhaven is the existence of the Brimhaven Dungeon and the Agility course.If you go south you will reach the remains of a village, that has problems with spirits,Tai Bwo Wannai.You will not be able to use most of the usable shops in this village until you complete the quest which is related to it.By continuing your journey south, you will eventually reach the gates of Shillo Village; this village has been overrun with zombies.You will have to complete the Shillo Village quest in order to enter it.The village of Shillo is known for its rich waters in fish and also for a slayer master that dwells here.

[hide=Karamja]zx5rtv.png[/hide]

Near the old city of Falador we can observe the existence of 2 other cities, that in my opinion are dependant on their position relative to the so well known f2p city.Starting from Falador centre, we will move north but do not take the eastern road, because it will lead you to the Barbarian village and then to Varrock, instead follow the western road. When you reach Doric, go through the gate west of him.You will now be in the city of Taverley.This city is renowned for 2 quests, that are the basic steps in 2 member skills: Herblore and Summoning.The 2 quests (Druidic Ritual and Wolf Whistle) will provide you with the basic xp and information about the 2 skills mentioned before.Taverley is also well known for its dungeon, which contains different types of monsters,Black Dragons being the most difficult to tackle.Moving north, from Taverley, we will reach the city of Burthorpe.It contains a building which can be used to play different games, but the city is mostly known for 5 things, which are : the existance of the lowest slayer master(Turael), the existance of an eternal fire in the basement of the local pub, the existance of 2 guilds nearby (Heroes and Warriors), the existance of a troll stronghold which contains the most fearsome trolls (Troll Generals) and also for the quests that unlock a dangerous dungeon, far north, called the Godwars Dungeon.

[hide=Taverley and Burthorpe]1ckkx.png[/hide]

The island of Entrana has been dedicated to Saradomin, so you will not be able to take any weapons or different devices of teleportation.If you want to explore this island, take runes with you as those are allowed.You can enter the island by using the boat from Port Sarim. There will be a boat, with 3 people in brown cloaks.They will search you for forbidden items and if everything is satisfactory you will be allowed access on the island. A quest that you can complete here gives you access to a new way of travelling, using baloons with hot air.These have been used, I dont know if they still are used, to runecraft law runes, as the law rune altar is on this island.The dungeon that is situated on this island is mostly used during a quest from the mainland.

[hide=Entrana]mltpuw.png258qauu.png[/hide]

The next area on our list is also the largest.It contains the vast majority of the new towns, Catherby,Seers,Yanille, just to name a few.This area can easily be accessed by going over the White Wolf Mountain, from Taverley.This trip will leave you in Catherby,a village known for its rich fishing spots. You can use the charter ships, present in the village to travel in the other areas although you can also walk into most of them.By going west, from Catherby you will arrive in Seers village,named this way after the people that dwell here,the Seers.Seers has a lot to do with woodcutting and flax gathering.You can find maple and yew trees in the vicinity of the town and also flax fields in the south-eastern part, between the city itself and Catherby.The ranging guild is part of Seers. If you choose to go north, you will eventually reach the city of Relekka.There is a cave, known as the slayer cave which belongs to this city and a more dangerous cave, Waterbirth Dungeon,containing the 3 Dagannoth Kings.By travelling south from Seers, you will eventually reach the city of Ardougne.The city itself is split in 2, East and West, separated by a wall due to the fact that people in the west side are considered to be infected with a plague, thus they are not allowed to travel in the east side.The Fishing Guild and the Legends Guild are part of this city.South of Ardougne you will find the city of Yanille, known for its Magic Guild high concentration of Ogres.They have their own city, what do you expect?The ogre city of GuTanoth is located beneath Yanille and you are required to go through a quest in order to access it.Directly west of Yanille you will find the Castle Wars arena, where you can duel with other people for the glory of the gods.Amidst the ogre population,plagued citizens and other beasts you will find the peacefull city(or is it) of the gnomes.This city is an expansion to the larger Tree Gnome Stronghold and it connects to it through a network of ancient trees.Since were talking about the gnomes, you should know that there is a far stronger city that the village, the Stronghold.You will find it by walking north-west from Ardougne.At the entrance there is a young gnome who is having problems with his cart.Be a nice person and help him load the crates.If you dont, no Stronghold access for you. Somewhat close to the Stronghold there is another minigame arena,the Barbarian Assault one.The city of Ooglog has a special character.Although you can enter the city freely you cannot use anything from the city(except the charter ships) without atleast starting the As a First Resort quest.

[hide=vast]20frlo6.png[/hide]

There is only one more place,that I can think of, that you can access without having to quest for hours.That is the Wilderness in all its glory. In the under50 level zone, the members wild offers 3 more dangerous places.First is an island in the middle of lava, filled with red dragons. Remember your antifire shield when fighting these! The second one is the lair of the king of all dragons,KBD(King Black Dragon).This massive beasts has 3 heads and spews fire, ice and poison from them.Be on your toes when fighting it. The third and final dungeon from this area is the underground lava maze.This area contains Greater Demons , Black Dragons and Poison Spiders.You will need a sharp object, as a hatchet, if you wish to explore this dungeon(the green line will show you where to cut the webs and what route to take).What drives people here you might think..well its simple:runite rocks.Although there is only 1 rock, its clear of miners most of the time. Above the 50 level limit you will find various places that help by increasing your blood flow, when seeing a team of 4-5 revenants coming after you.This part of the wilderness is mostly known for 3 things:agility,magic and the Chaos Elemental, which tests those skills to the maximum.The Wilderness agility arena is located on the west side and provides an effective way of training agility.Watch out for revenants though.The Mage Arena is located in the central part of the area and allows you to unlock 3 god-related spells:Claws of Guthix, Saradomin Strike and Flames of Zamorak. The Chaos Elemental lurks in the eastern part and is helped most of the time by revenants that simply walk-by. >.>

[hide=Wild]28wj8jm.png[/hide]

Onwards to quest or minigame related areas.First on the list are the minigame related areas:Pest Control Island,Soul Wars Island.By going in the southern area of Port Sarim, you will be able to get a ride, by talking to a squire, to the Pest Control Island and help the knights there protect the island from the Void monsters.This island actually contains 2 smaller islands,the actual minigame one and the island where you arrive by boat.You can access the Soul Wars Island from the village of Edgeville, going through the portal near the yew trees.

[hide=Soul Wars]30wpn4z.png[/hide]

[hide=Pest Control]kb3rma.png[/hide]

The Eastern Lands, as they are known, stretch over a large surface of land containing swamps, woodland areas and small islands filled with zombies.No matter what route you will take towards these lands you will have to complete the quest A priest in peril. After completition you have been granted access to the village of Canifis, filled with werewolves disguised as people.This village is mostly known for the Slayer Tower, which contains various monsters, increasing in level from the top part of it to the top.South of Canifis lies a vast swamp, containing ghostly creatures(ghasts) that will devour your food.If you wish to avoid this you will have to complete the In Search of the Myreque quest. This will allow you to use a shortcut that will reduce the time needed to travel south.The small village of Morton is unlocked on completition of the Shades of Morton quest and allows you to play a ghostly minigame,Temple Building. This area is also home to a combat related minigame, Barrows.It involves 6 ancient brothers, well their tombs.5 of them will appear when you check their tombs and a 6th one will be underneath its coffin, in a maze of corridors and secret doors.The reward will always be in the middle of this maze.Due to the nature of these lands, few banks are available, there are only 3 in the main villages:Canifis, Burgh de Rott and Port Phasmatys.The last 2 require quests in order to access, In Aid of the Myreque and Ghosts Ahoy.If you decide to continue with the Myreque quest line you will also access another town,home of vampires and stronger creatures named vyrewatches : Meiyerditch.However if you continue with the Ghosts Ahoy quest line youll be able to access the island of Mos LeHarmless and the minigame present there:Trouble Brewing.The small island of Harmony is part of the The Great Brain Robbery quest and its a retreated island with few things to offer.

[hide=Eastern lands]2hxofgj.png[/hide]

On the other side of the map,you will find the elven lands, full of traps and monsters that have nothing else better to do than try and kill you.Youll be able to access these parts during the quest line that starts with the Plague City quest.This area is involved in quite a few quests and Jagex promised to reveal what happens in the inner part of the elven stronghold of Prifddinas.Well need to wait and see what the future reveals.

[hide=Elven lands]ehaek1.png[/hide]

The small fishing city of Piscatoris(officially known as Piscatoris Fishing Colony), is situated near the Gnome Stronghold.The name itself reveals the citys most important source of wealth, players can only fish monkfish in this area.You will need to quest before you can enter the city,that right is given to you after the completition of Swan Song quest.

[hide=Piscatoris]2iumpy.png[/hide]

Most of the areas described are part of the mainland.There are also islands that are separated from the mainland through quests.Access to each of the islands usually requiring the completition of 1 or more quests.The island of apes(Ape Atoll) is accesible during the Monkey Madness quest and it is home to the agility training course.The Lunar island along with the Pirates Cove territory are part of the Lunar Diplomacy Quest which also opens up a new spellbook to you,Lunar Magicks.You can also learn more spells if you complete the Dream Mentor quest.The Fremennik Islands of Jatiszo and Neitiznot are available after the completition of the The Fremennik Isles quest.You will find here another runite rock.As mentioned earlier the Waterbirth Island, is home to the 3 Dagannoth Kings.At surface its an island littering with Rock Crabs and the inner part contains a lot of various types of dagannoths.The rather small island of Miscellania allows you to put others to work for you! through the Manage Thy Kingdom minigame. You first have to complete the Throne of Miscellania quest but I advise you to also complete the Royal Trouble quest for 5 extra workers.

[hide=Islands]33w1a8y.png[/hide]

As a general guideline regarding the new areas,my advice is that If you start a quest line you should complete as much as possible from it, for example: Plague City-> Biohazard-> Underground Pass-> Regicide-> Roving Elves(you also need the Waterfall quest for this step).Once you have started the first quest, you have esentially started a whole set of quests,each one increasing in difficulty but with better rewards.If you travel in the dangerous parts of the world keep some good food on you and a form of teleportation, if you get in trouble. This is all that I can think of related to the new areas.If you feel that you need further information, check different maps and minigame guides from the main site.

5.General Expectations

Although this might sound a bit harsh, I expect that you have completed a large majority of the f2p quests,that you are familiar with the f2p cities and regions, that you have a decent sense of observation, when it comes to discovering new places, trying to find answers yourself rather than complaining to different players that will most likely ignore you anyway.You are just wasting your time and the other players patience.

11.Thanks

The first person that I d like to thank is myself. I feel that this guide will be a personal challenge, although it will help me understand the way a report is made in real-life situations (gathering data, using that data to obtain information viable for the consumer etc.)

Tip.It-I thank you for all the help that you have offered me along the period of time that I have read the information stored in your covers and also for the space that you have granted me on the forums, also for the pictures that I have modified, so they would fit in the guide.

Jagex-I thank them for creating the game, that has helped me improve my knowledge, both about real-life information used in the game and also for the improvement regarding the fluency in which I can type/speak , in English.

TinyPic-for hosting the images.

Last but not least I think you ,the reader, for viewing my work.

As I said in the "How?" section, I'll split the guide, each member skill will have it's own share, well basically giving advice to new members related to training that particular skill. You most likely remember complaints such as "This skill sux@@@", well try the skill, see what it does then comment on it. Read the guide later today,I'll most likely add the agility section today. ::'

I didn't know dueling and games necklace sold at (1) charge, but I always alched these. Great advice to anyone thinking about using that last charge, you are better off selling of alching.
