[bleep] this, I love cabbage !

Featured Replies

Just a humorous title.

Anyway, before we changed to Invision and we were still on phBB I remember the censors being more "customized" ie. funnier and more meaningful. Now it's just bleep most of the time. Previously a certain curse had it's own specific censor.

For example :

[cabbage], [bleep] , [bleep], [bleep], [bleep], [bleep]

Back then you could get a good idea of what curse a user was using. Now you have no idea !

Any chance of bringing the old system back ?

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think any of those fun censors were changed when we moved to IPB. That being said, more "fun" censors would be nice. They are a bit of a laugh :P

None of the "fun" censors were changed.

The point of a censor is not really that you're supposed to be able to use offensive words - just in transferred versions. Cabbage now has a transferred meaning on Tip.It, which is okay. But some more offensive words just should never have that, and you aren't supposed to be able to guess every filtered word from what they are censored to. If that was the case, we might aswell just have dropped the censor in the first place - as people would have used those word as insults instead. In fact, that has even happened with "cabbage" and "gardening tool" already.

When everybody knows the meaning of the replacement word, it loses its censoring effect.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

Yeah, I know it kind of defeats the purpose of there being a censor at all but I distinctly remember there being "female dog" and "puncture".

Oh well.

What you say is perfectly good.

The filter was not changed in the IPB switchover.
