  1. Not yet, but I'm sure I'll get there sooner or later.

I've been hearing a bit about that on the Radio. Should be good fun for people in the area, trying to get a sighting of him. Probably a bit less fun for Snoop though :P
  3. Same as RPG, Albel, and Bonez. Given that Canadian English is really my only language, I guess they nailed it for me. I suppose that, at least for Canada, US standard and Ebonics would make sense. I think accent plays a part of it. You recognize that someone with a different accent speaks a different dialect, and instead absorb phraseology from other people who speak your language in the same accent that you do. I also had to laugh at their example. Even before I finished reading that paragraph, I was thinking "that sounds like something they would say in Newfoundland". In case it's not always the same, it was "throw me down the stairs my shoes", which doesn't sound entirely incorrect to me. It's just such a beautiful and convoluted way of saying something so simple. We call it Newfinese. They have some great sayings, but I can't use them because no one where I live knows what they mean. Best is probably "stay where you're to till I comes where you're at".
  4. I like Rome Total War, but I am staggeringly bad at it. Oh, and there is no waterfall in ETS2, I was just imagining things apparently. Still, the Norway part of ETS2 Scandinavia is amazing, now that I've had a chance to travel all of it.

Been far too long. Found some work for the time being (yay!), and I've been having a lot of fun. It's a good old labour job, so not exactly what I was angling for, but it pays well enough, and I actually like my job, my boss, and my supervisor, so that's nice. Being busy all day helps the time pass quickly, even if I am sore and tired when I get home (which is why I'm not posting much. Some nights I just come home and watch a movie and go to bed), but I'm starting to get used to it. Also started seeing a chiropractor, which is probably a good thing. Have a pinched nerve going to my right shoulder, and some issues in my back and with my pelvis (it's tilted). Probably all that darn computer work. Probably wouldn't be able to do this job without the chiropractor actually. Also, my left knee is apparently just awesome. Just about every part of my body is or has been sore since I took the job, except that knee. Anyway, I hope you guys are doing alright!
  6. Got the Scandinavia DLC for ETS2. My most relaxing game just got more beautiful, though I think they borked the light balance for day and night in the latest patch (too dark in the day, much too light at night, and lights are blooming excessively). It's been a lot of fun exploring the new area, though I have yet to find the waterfall I am reasonably certain exists someplace in Norway. I've seen footage of it being developed, but I either went down the wrong road or drove right past it without seeing. I'll have to find the development footage again.
  7. Post Deletion I'm sure there are many forums that allow their users to delete their posts and get along just fine, but I don't see this forum being one of them. Devnull is quite right on the record keeping point. Tip.it has a long standing policy that nothing gets thrown away. Rather than guess at what material we might want to reference in the future, we have opted to simply keep everything, and the delete function interferes with our ability to keep the most complete and useable records possible. Bumping Sy has some neat ideas here. In particular, I like the idea of allowing a post edit to bump a thread and mark the post back to unread so that it doesn't get jumped over (which I assume is why you thought of using the delete function, since it would also accomplish this). Unfortunately, I don't think any of that stuff exists out of the box, so I couldn't immediately say what can and cannot be done. There is of course a basic bump system, though this will fail to highlight the edited post. I'm certainly open to a discussion about enabling the bump system, and I'll see about allowing edits themselves to provide a bumping option. User content deletion isn't on the table however I'm afraid.

I think cigarettes are a hunger suppressant, so that makes sense, especially if you are also using food as a replacement hand-to-mouth activity. I think I understand how you feel though. I take a drug that suppresses hunger, and to fend off starvation my body apparently decided to flip the "eat something now" switch to on permanently, almost regardless of hunger. It becomes a problem when you consider that I'm actually not dangerously underweight (used to be close), and after years of adapting to the medication, it's now an integral part of not having a rapidly expanding waist size (my inseem is longer than my waist, and I would prefer to keep things that way ). If I ever stop needing the medication, I will have to find a way to arrange my life so that I am never sitting down near my kitchen, particularly to watch TV, lest I eat a jar of pickles every day (I get really specific cravings. Pickles are currently a common one, as is hot chocolate).

There is so much pod racing in the extended cut of Episode 1. The introductions for every single racer is both kind of awesome and boring. Giving it some thought, I realized that I pretty much universally hate the B plots in all the Star Wars movies. Whenever the cast splits up, I always find one of the arcs boring once I've already seen them. Also, the movies weren't exactly planned out from the beginning. The droids are a different case. They're portrayal in episode 3 makes no sense within Star Wars lore. I dunno. The prequels definitely lost something besides the weird injections like comedy droids or Jar Jar, though I can't really describe it. I don't know if I were seeing them for the first time today if they would feel enough like Star Wars for me to accept them, or if it's just because of when I saw them. I'm also not entirely convinced that there isn't an impossible standard for Star Wars to meet simply because of when it was made. That is, it's hard to do something now exactly as it would have been done then, and also that we can't go back and see them from the same viewpoint. Times have changed and so have we. That's not to defend the failings of the prequels, just that I don't think we can ever have 3 more just like the originals, even with their respective directors.

I still like episode one. It came out when I was 9, and I absolutely loved it. I've never gotten over my love of it. To me, episode 3 is the abomination with talking comedy droids. I react to the droids in Episode 3 like everyone else does to Jar Jar. I've only seen episode 3 twice, while I've seen all the others at least a dozen times each (except episode 5 with lacks the big battle that appealed to younger me, so I've only seen if half a dozen times). I used to watch these movies whenever my parents were out late. I watched the final battle in episode 6 so many times I wore out the tape. Now I have to watch the stupid DVD version that ruined the best Star Wars song. I really like Star Wars. I got back into playing Silent Hunter 4, and as I am wont to do, I've been brushing up a bit on some of my history. It's been quite an interesting experience for me. So much history, and simply not enough time to do it justice. My education growing up never really touched on the Pacific Theater, probably because Canada didn't participate a whole lot in that area.
  11. Started playing SH4 again. I'm still a decent shot with torpedoes, which is nice. My identification skills are as iffy as ever however. First patrol was longer and more frustrating than I would have liked (like trying to identify and target ships in 3m swells), but I walked away with I think 28,000 tonnes sunk, including a 7,000 tonne ship I ran into while coming into port to end my patrol (I have no idea what he thought he was doing there). I decided to go with the Asiatic fleet, since I like a bit of a challenge and it's less driving around, at least at first. I think I ended my patrol like two days before Manilla was lost (it's actually going to be taken when I start the next patrol, but I should be able to get out). It's still a fun and even reasonably good looking game. Oh, and my ship is the USS Seadragon, which is just fantastic. I will be very sad to give up that name if/when I am offered a better submarine.

I'm not sure you understand how fire works. If it wasn't cold, you wouldn't enjoy it in the first place (nothing like a big ol bonfire at high noon in the middle of August when it's 30 celsius eh?).

Samus' gun is integrated into her suit, and it looks cool. Need you a better reason? I mean, it does make you wonder where all the laser stuff and missiles are stored, but aesthetics before reality.

I found a music video recently by Chris Hadfield that he wrote about Canada. One of the lines was "we pronounce the letter R like we're pirates on a ship", and it struck me as really funny because he's right and I never noticed that before. I'll have to ask some people from Europe and Australia how they say R. It's a nice song if anyone is interested, found here. I also got a kick out of the comments. He talks about milk being in bags, which is apparently a Central and Eastern thing (I guess it's the norm in Ontario, and over here in the Maritimes we have both bag and carton options). Plowing a driveway makes more sense.

That's alright because front end loaders are more awesome anyway (though I wont deny the awesome factor of some of that farming equipment). A bit surprised a loader could do satisfactory plow work for a farm though, would expect them to have more of a bulldozer effect where they just move the field elsewhere instead of turning the soil.
  16. Stumbled on K-391 after finding one of his songs on NCS (Non Copyright Sound, channel on youtube). Started with (this is probably my favorite version. His channel has one or two others): That one might be my favourite, though frankly, there isn't much on his channel I didn't love, and I don't think anything I didn't like. He seems to like experimenting with different types of music too. A couple others: [hide] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMdLfJ5edGM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuqgXYKjZpo [/hide]

That reminds me, how do you pronounce Qatar? Where I am, most people say Ka-TAR, but I've also heard it pronounced as Cutter, and I was wondering how people in Qatar say it.

We don't normally put Butter on Pancakes here. I live in the land of Maple Syrup, we use that instead. Butter and Peanut butter sandwiches are to die for if you use white bread and fold it in half (you have to fold it, not joking at all).
  19. Arceus has been doing some great work for this site as a crewbie in addition to being a moderator, and it gives me great pleasure to announce that Arceus will be taking on the position of Deputy Crew Leader in addition to his moderator duties, and ease some of the workload that Stev has taken on as leader of both the moderator and crew teams. Stev will be maintaining his position, and will continue to work on technical projects and provide guidance to the crew. As Deputy Crew Leader, Arceus will be taking over the day to day operation of the crew, such as maintaining the list of tasks our crew has to work on, and assigning projects. Congratulations Arceus!

The second movie uses b roll footage from the first film. The third one uses a different set of cars and is set in a different location, which would make using old footage an issue. There are also differences in the action sequences between cars that would indicate budget differences. The second movie gets to use footage from the first movie, which had nearly six and a half times the budget. The third movie instead seems to rely more on cheaper action sequences (more actual racing, and more use of missiles instead of machine guns).

Figured I'd take some pictures before the sun went down, though I'll have to grab some better ones tomorrow. This is my backyard. The depression in the top right of the snow in the door is from the exterior door knob: [hide] [/hide] And here is a view into our driveway, which I didn't even notice until I was taking pictures. Our 4 foot high garbage cans are buried under there someplace, and that's not an isolated drift. The entire driveway (that I could see) is now that deep. For a better size reference, the garage door there is around 8-9 feet tall, you're seeing about half of it: [hide] [/hide] Oh, and I forgot to mention that yesterday I discovered there was a Death Race 3 movie and watched it. As far as the action goes, I'd say it was pretty much on par with the previous two (maybe a little below), but I found withheld gunfire and the most laughably inaccurate depiction of missiles I've ever seen a little distracting. I expect liberties to be taken, but I think they went too far. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, and I'll probably watch it again someday, maybe as part of a Death Race marathon. I watch them chronologically and the third movie is in the middle, so I can avoid starting or ending with it. But the first two are better.
  23. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to look at some proper gameplay footage to see how the game feels, but it's definitely piqued my interest. 007 multiplayer lives on as GoldenEye: Source, free on steam. It's a fairly faithful remake of the multiplayer side of the game, which was totally the best part (IMO). Assuming it still works (seems to be broken for me, not played it in a while).

I was lucky enough when I was young to have no desire to experiment with drugs, and that inclination lasted long enough for me to realize that I probably don't have the mental fortitude to quit, and thus would be wise never to start. It's weird though. For example, I've never been able to give up caffeine despite it doing nothing for me. I did pretty well for a couple years, and water is still 99% of what I drink (I like water), but probably every month or so I'll be in the corner store and buy a redbull or pop because I miss it. On the other hand, I can and do go months without drinking alcohol. I enjoy it sure, but I've never felt any need to drink, and since I don't party that often, I rarely have a reason to bother. Anywho, we've been getting stupid amounts of snow where I live. Our backyard, being reasonably well shaded has been about 3 feet of snow for the last month or so, and last night that got notched up to 4-5 feet. The snow banks on the sidewalks are going to be beyond silly now. Would be the first time in my (adult) life that the snowbanks become taller than me.
  25. I discovered the soon to be released game Pillars of Eternity. It looks like it will be the first game released in 15 years that can actually take Baldur's Gate's place as my go to RPG with a real time with pause combat system (Dragon Age is nice, but Dragon age doesn't feel like D&D). It's not D&D rules, but it looks like a solid spiritual successor with some really nice changes, and GTA 5 is no longer my most anticipated game release. Also downloading Cities Skyline. I haven't really been into city builders since the first Sim City. I do have cities XL, but the logistics surrounding expanding roads to wider versions in that game just sucked all the fun out of it for me (something I was sure to make sure Skylines does right, and it does). I skipped Sim City 5, because I'm not clinically insane, but I still want to have a city builder in my library that I actually enjoy.
