Tip.It Times Presents: Are They Only Pixels?
peiffer1066 replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
I'm a "kid" with a job and I really don't have any sympathy for people that lose items to scammers or lurers or something else. Well, I kind of take that back. I guess I have some sympathy for them but in all reality for someone to lose and item in such down right dumb ways such as getting an item switched in a trade screen. It kind of annoys me when people complain about losing items to scammers when it is mostly there fault, when what they really should be doing is working to get their money and/or items back. Face it, complaining about being scammed is not going to do anything. You won't get your items back, you won't really get much sympathy and you're probably going to get flamed, even if you don't deserve it. So, at the end of the day they are just pixels. After all, after you get scammed, you are just a person with less pixels than they had at the beginning of the day. And you lost all that hard work and time you say? Well if those pixels were so precious to you, you probably should have done a little more to protect them. Money doesn't grow on trees in RuneScape, but it does spawn all over the ground, so close enough. -

It also doesn't make business sense to alienate your customers, which is exactly what Jagex is doing, and has been for quite some time. #-o Your comparison of Runescape to World of Warcraft is one I have been noticing as well (even though I don't play WoW.) I think Jagex is trying to push Runescape in that direction, but many loyal players want to keep Runescape as the game with the quirky graphics that won us all over a long time ago. :| -

Oh no, if people weren't so pathetically helpless (not stupid) then they wouldn't have to focus so much on babying people that refuse to learn for themselves. Sorry if I came on like I was making excuses for Jagex. EDIT: I would like to ask you how you thought I was saying because people are stupid that Jagex should keep luring legal? -

Well, this is all good and true. But don't forget that if people weren't so pathetically helpless that they need everything laid out on front of them, Jagex wouldn't have to do this. The only true problem that Jagex is making (in my eyes) is that they refuse to admit their mistakes and fix them. When all of this rubbish came out with banning SwiftSwitch, they could have done so many things to remedy the situation, but instead they just kept on with their tyrannical rants about how every third party client for Runescape was just some ploy to steal your account. And how they should not be trusted. In all reality, I have come across maybe one or two malicious clients in all my time playing Runescape. (Ok, not very long, but still.) If Jagex would take the time to actually fix their own website, then maybe would people would use their website, see their ads, and play their game. But, they instead just take the focus on their own faults and focus it on someone else's product. And now this month with the whole bandwith stealing issue. Yes, Jagex should not have to pay to support forum signatures, but they didnt have to ruin them either. They could have made a simple feed that would make everyone happy. Although, it has become quite apparent that the Runescape we knew and loved is not the Runescape the Gower's wanted. They are not required by any means to cater to their consumers. It seems that they are just waiting for the right kind of consumer for their product, even if it does change Runescape into a daycare. -
Is luring an acceptable practice?
peiffer1066 replied to Kalphite_Queen's topic in General Discussion
It may not be scamming, true. But the facts remain that it isn't honest, nor is it very honorable. :shame: If it is against the rules or not, it still a lowly way of playing the game. Lure if you want, I won' stop you. Blame it on the people that get lured. Call them idiots or whatever. But there wouldn't be a debate if people didn't do it. Only so much blame can be put on the victim. You can take all your stuff to the wild, but someone has to attack you. Losing all your stuff is no fun at all. -.- And isn't that what RuneScape is about, Having Fun? I think we all need a daily dose of strong moral fiber. (Sorry for being cheesy, I couldn't resist.) : -

I personally don't like lurers, I think it's a pretty rotten way to make a buck. Preying on the ignorance or sheer stupidity of other people is low. I put them into a group with people that pk at the zamorak mage, green drags, try to teleother people at barrows or dagganoth kings, etc... It really can be pretty upsetting when you are just trying to train or sell some items and people take advantage of that. That being said, it's actually a little pathetic the number of people i see on world 2 in Falador yelling things like: "Drop party follow x0x lure you x0x [i am pretty sure that is not a real rs name [sorry if it is!]]," "OMG IT'S ZEZIMA!!! FOLLOW TO SEE!!!!," or "I'll buy your whip for 10M!! FOLLOW!!" etc... But, the more pathetic figure is the amount of people actually following them. People really ought to know better. Even if you are dumb enough to follow someone yelling something like that, wouldnt you be a little suspicious of the skulled people around you as you are approaching the wild? No, I have never been lured; though many people have attempted to have me follow them into the wilderness. -

A very well written article. Runescape really has neglected to further please it's veterans. People have nothing to do! When something gets released, even a new stat, people get it extremely fast. I have only been around for two releases, farming and construction. People got 99 in both stats within one week of release! Even as a fairly new mid level player I often find myself extremely bored. 92 combat has it's thrills, but when it all comes down to it I have 109 quests, 22 skills, and a few minigames to keep me playing. I think this is the main reason we play is for the friends we have made. Some people play to get a party hat or what not, but what's the use if you have no friends to show it to? =D> Well Done, Mr. Editor! =D> *Dragon armor is considred to be better than barrows armor.*
