  1. Correct, Ben is Jordan's brother. Excellent episode Futurama, the moment when you realise that he has been dead for half the episode , JD saying, "why do you think we are here?", is so good. And on a similar note, it was Scrubs last Thursday, episode My Lunch, first showing in England. Dr Cox kills three patients by accident and when the last patient dies and the music comes in... it all gets too much.
  2. True, but to be more precise, the comment is what Governments do in real life to control inflation (see: monetary policy), not neccessarily a suggestion (as i pointed out earlier, 'Manage Thy Kingdom' may be our investment opportunity to reduce inflation).
  3. I have classed Party Hats as Giffen Goods before, but another side to the arguement that your post has made me consider is that demand is no longer rising for Party Hats because people are coming to the realisation that they will never have one unless they are on the 'rare ladder' now. It certainly seemed in the past that with new players joining we had a price rise due to an increase in demand (more people wanting to buy rares) which moved infinitely faster than supply (which obviously does not change). However if demand falls, Real prices (not considering inflation) will fall, and reach somewhat of an equilibrium in Real price due to people selling for less then more etc.

  5. Good post, although alot of it was just about Economics in general there was some interedting appilcation to how Runescape works. In reference to your thought that you have to keep playing in order to survive economically, i don't believe Jagex did that intentionally, although if it did more credit to them, however i think that it is what possibly makes the game as popular as it is. Any interesting thing to note is that with the 'Manage Thy Kingdom' game you can convert money to commodities without trading or playing with great dedication, i think this may reduce the 'Keep up or get out the of the way' effect of inflation.
  6. Well, i'll try and help, but i can't remeber what happened exactly a year ago, but i have been playing runescape and visiting this forum for a long time. :P In terms of the runescape map, i would say that it is a lot bigger and gone are the days were there was only one way or place to train the majority of skills. Runescape hasn't really changed in that kids still play and kids are still immature, but you can't let them ruin it for you. Can't really comment on the 'general atmosphere' of the game, i'm not really a big community player, prefer to play my own game. The Runescape section of this forum is MUCH better, there were some really annoying members who used to troll here, but thankfully have gone and left a very nice community. Overall my advice is, it's just a game, play it if you want, you don't have to commit to anything.
  7. I don't see how the intentions of the written text have anything to do with feasibility of it being real. If something is unable to be proved (existence of a supernatural being, existence of 'The Force') then they are both on the same level. Using your logic, if a follower of the Jedi religion were to re-write Star Wars selectively into a 'holy text' with the full intention and belief that they were writing the truth, would it then make it comparable with Christianity? And if there was evidence that before the Bible was written, someone made a self declared fictitous story that was similar to the Bible, would it make Christians renounce their faith, because their good book was based on fiction? It is my opinion that because we cannot prove or disprove supernatural beings, religion's only purpose is to provide a set of morals by which we should our lives, and for the most part this is done well, and it doesnt matter where the message comes from, Luke Skywalker or Jesus Christ.
  8. I class myself as an Apathetic Agnostic And my friend read 'The God Delusion', he enjoyed it also.
  9. I have no problem with people using SUV's for the reasons you outlined, but I don't understand why you have a problem with this law. The reasons you mention aren't really Central London norms, so there is no real reason why SUV's that are doing what they are made to should be in the zone at all, the SUV's that are going to be charged are 'petrol wasters'.
  10. I don't know if you are being sarcastic Apinagez, but there are a multitude of reason why not: Lots of people who work in London, higher ups anyway, have a status issue with public transport. Public transport is invariably more constricting than private transport, in terms of where you travel to and when you travel. Comfort. And a quick look on Wikipedia about the Hybrid car fees:
  11. Yep a teacher at my college 'condemned me' because i said that it didnt matter. He then went on to 'prove' that it did. However isn't the probably of an event happening the No of ways the event can happen (1) / Total Number of outcomes possible (2)? My main point is that the initial guess is irrelevant to the second, but i can't prove it because my Statistics isn't up to scratch.
  12. I think you just grow to deal with it rationally, i used to think, I've never been broken into before, what makes me think it will happen now, what are they chances of it happening. Well that did apply to me until: I was staying in a friends house in Turkey and we came back from going out and the house had been burgled. Three houses on my road were broken into in one week and 4 cars were stolen as a result. At that point i kind of had it in my mind that the house was going to be broken into and had mentally prepared for it, even though you can't know what it feels like to burgled, and i wasn't even in the presence of the criminals in turkey. At the end of the day, you and your family are the most important things, the other things in your house are probably covered by insurance, you just need to get yourself safe, and locked in a room preferably, I would say that most burglers will not hurt you, especially if you do not pose a threat to them. Worst case scenario is that you come face to face with a burgler, they take your car keys or whatever, they don't want to hurt you, they want to get away without being caught. And don't carry a wepaon unless you happen to be trained using it. You are increasing the stakes of potential conflict and posing a threat to a fundamentally aggressive and lawless peron.

  14. In my house we have two computers, one of them is situated next to the internet connection and mine, is connected to the LAN wirelessly. I use Windows Service Pack 2. Me and my father decided to update the firmware on our router to the newest version. The router we have is the DG834GT, my wireless adapter is the WG111T. With this version of firmware, i would frequently lose signal to the router from my computer. I would just turn the router on and off again and it would seem to work. Also, sometimes, less often, i would lose access to the internet connection, but retain signal with the router. Since this, i decided to put the firmware back to the version that i beleive we were on (i have tried all firmware versions now), and i thought it was fine. Unfortunately the signal remains, but my internet connection is stopping every few minutes. The other variable that coincides with this is we changed ISP, but I can't see how that would change anything. If anyone can suggest anything that might solve this, please do, or if anything will help (HJT log, cant see as it makes a difference though), please tell me. Thanks in advance.
  15. It was a very funny movie, but it made me cringe so much. Imagine singing your supposed national anthem in front of an arena full of arguably the most patriotic country in the world. The single funniest bit was the moment of realisation that they were in a Jewish household. "Why would you paint this man?" "...Because I'm Jewish" *Looks at camera with shock and horror*
  16. I'm not sure if i understand you fully, but if i did, you don't have a problem with a particular script, and this can't post any code you have. I think you are trying to avoid HTML frames, so you want one page index.php and the content changes based on the $_GET variable passed to it? For example, someone goes to http://www.yoursite.co.uk and they see the main page, and the links to news photos media video are like /index.php?page=news. So you put some kind of conditional statement in the index page that is basically if ( $_GET['page'] == 'news') { include ("news.php"); } And the tour dates bit you can just include("tourdates.php"); wherever you need it. This kind of thing is very useful when you grasp the idea of seperation of content and design. :P Sorry this post is really rushed, i have to go out,ill probably edit it when i come back!
  17. Yeah, and for example, to buy a Blue Party Hat, you trade the second highest worth rare and the difference in GP, and obviously keep going backwards, until the lowest rare is more than 2.1bil. The only thing with trading things like your example, Silver Bars, not everyone places the same economic value on any commodity apart from cold Cash.
  18. So people shouldn't use their brains? ... too many people do that anyway if you ask me.
  19. I was talking to my friend about this just the other day. I believe that rares in Runescape are so called Veblen Goods. I think that rares in Runescape have an accelerator effect on their own price, not like normal goods where demand falls in response to a change in price, the demand rises following an increase in price! And another thing that i hear alot is that there is massive inflation in the Runescape market, but in real life we measure inflation with a basket of goods that the typical person would buy during that year. And while i do agree that rare prices are increasing scarily quick, most commodities are stable or even reducing in price. Thus leading me too beleive that the arent a true reflection of the whole economy. My last thought is this: If rares continue to rise in Price realtive to GP (which i believe they will), and the limit of money in the game is 2.1billion, how far would the lowest priced rare go above that, bearing in mind that they would have to trade with a commodity as well as money for that particular rare? It appears to me that in the future, it will be nigh impossible to get onto the 'Rare Ladder', and only those merchants who have ammassed such a wealth will retain rares. However i believe a stagnation and stabilisation in the market will occur at that point, because the gap between the rich and poor will be so large.
  20. Well i quickly copied it and put it on my server, and the output was completely blank, it doesn't echo anything at all. I'm (like everyone else who posted  ) not the greatest at PHP, but interestingly enough i was looking at .org/archive/index.php/t-123101.html]this earlier tonight, it may be able to help you! Edit: Unfortunately the site i was looking at is apparently a cheat site, but my guess is that if you search for 'retrieving data using php runescape highscores' you'll find what you are looking for.
  21. Theres a bird called Roc? Hmm in the Japanese version of Silkroad (MMORPG) the highest leveled boss is a massive bird called Roc :-s
  22. cyber_demon12, after i re-read your post, I still don't understand how using PHP could make a page load faster than by using HTML. In fact the two languages, as far as i know, are used for entirely seperate things, content and design(or content and framework, with CSS being design). I do agree that although it is harder to learn than html it is worth it because it is a great language, but i don't see how it could make a page load faster. If you could actually give us an example, that would be great.
  23. Tell us a bit more info and we may be able to help... Is it just making your desktop images white? Or are there other symptoms? Have you restarted your system recently? Is your AVG up to date with definitions? Is your spybot up to date with definitions? Have you ran either of the above two in safe mode? Posting a HiJackThis logfile would also help us.
  24. I feel we are disgressing slightly, and your knowledge on these matters is evidently greater than mine, so lets leave it. But my last thought would be that these groups of people do not always have justice as their number one concern, in my opinion, alot of them committ their actions to retain political and economic dominance, but i know this can't be proven, and whether this is acceptable is matter of opinion as well.
