  1. Today was one of my happiest days in a long while. I'm always working on projects of all sorts... one of these is my Ultimate Monster Examine Guide.

Since the Monster Examine spell was released on Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 (my guide was posted 10 days later), I set out to obtain a screenshot of the monster examine of every single monster in the game that it was possible to cast on. My guide is unique - the only one of its kind, and the most complete you will ever see. It includes every quest monster, every random event and familiar... it contains the obscurest of the obscurest monsters that hardly anyone recognized the EXISTENCE of. Have any of you heard of Crondis? Fire Warrior of Lesarkus? Did you know there are two of each level 20 blood and bruise blamish snails, which have different HP and/or max hits? Probably not... and most of you will never need this information. Other monsters, like bosses and familiars, you may find more useful. I did make this guide to be useful to everyone... to finally kill the questions surrounding the stats of monsters, with so much inconsistency across fansites' monster databases. I also made this guide simply because I have an obsession with knowing the HP of everything, and many people regard me as RuneScape's monster expert... or my self-appointed title, "Monster Examine King". Maybe sometime I can win a custom rank for that. :) But perhaps the most important reason is because this was such a difficult goal that took such a long amount of time, and I wanted to do something unlike anything else that had ever been done.

Additionally, every single one of the 1,285 monster examines in my guide have been personally verified to be accurate without question, by my own eyes.

There are so many monsters in RuneScape, it is very difficult to keep track of them all. Not a single bestiary on the Internet has more monster records of monsters that can be scanned, than my guide. Some are only accessible during quests, and I had to make an entirely new account, train it for Dream Mentor without completing any of the quests I needed scans from, and obtain them. Yes, I have a monster examine of Elvarg. I've been everywhere, I've killed everything, so thoroughly that I am positive there is not a single spider creeping in some corner of RuneScape that I don't know about. I wouldn't be surprised I have cast the Monster Examine spell more times than any other player in RuneScape, having cast it probably 2,000 times. I can't imagine anyone would use it for training,

Today, on August 15th of 2009, at 5:38 PM UTC, 2 years and 3 months since the release of the spell, I obtained the very last, 1,285th monster examine I needed to complete my guide. I consider reaching this goal to be the greatest achievement of my RuneScape career. Of course, the guide will never truly be complete, and I will continue to update it as new monsters are released.

Now that the guide is "completed" in the sense that there are no old monsters missing, I think I will focus on adding some of the requested features as time permits... such as grouping level ranges within hide tags, or separating the Summoning familiars into their own hide tag. I myself had an idea for a SEARCHABLE monster examine database. Since the phpBB software (Tip.It forums) does not allow PHP, you'd have to click a link to view the guide on my web server. Of course, this will be optional, the guide will still be posted in full on the Tip.It forums. For those that want the additional features, my website will be there waiting. Don't expect any of this to come tomorrow, but I will let you know that I am seriously considering it if I have time.

To close, my guide would not be what it is without: Sumondskull6, without whom I would still be around 1000/1285 scans, or 80% complete. He has helped me get more monster examines than I can count, 3 of those being Champions' Challenge monsters. Shortman4229 and Artemis1330 for using their impressive Summoning levels to help me obtain all the familiar scans. Mithril26 for a ton of quest monsters. Soma2035, Madmanpur3, Shortman4229, Artemis1330 and Sumondskull6 for accompanying me to the God Wars Dungeon to get scans of the bosses and their minions. Sarah Wilde for some of the low level random events, before they were taken out of the game. Without her I would've have even more of a difficulty obtaining those rare scans. Mrmoocky, Geed Geed7, Brunokiller, Wereta and Blue Harpy for submitting and confirming some of the Champions Challenge scans. And Mrmoocky for that pesky scan of Viyeldi, a ghost from the Legends quest. Howlin1 for alerting me to the existence of 3 new Juvinates, which led me to find 5 in total. And last but not least, I cannot forget all the players that came and went without mention, who let me tag along to scan various monsters while they quested... such as the Desert Treasure bosses.

I'd like to thank all of these contributors, many of which are my good friends. May you all enjoy the finally-completed Ultimate Monster Examine Guide.

Now, this topic wasn't all about me, and this doesn't belong in the Goals & Achievements forum because the following question is the fuel for this topic's intended discussion:

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement in your RuneScape career, or what is your greatest goal and how do you hope to achieve it? It can be something based on in-game merit, such as the completion of Champions' Challenge (another of my proudest feats), or something outside of the game but related to it, such as my Ultimate Monster Examine Guide. I look forward to reading what you all have to say.

    Also!

I'm not letting you get away without sneaking this in... :) I challenge every one of you to find a scannable monster in RuneScape that is not present in my guide. Here are the rules:

1.) New monsters don't count. When Jagex updates the game in a few days and releases some new monsters, you can't use that as your submission. I'm aware they aren't in the guide because I'm sleeping and haven't woken up to go get them yet... or I'm in class. ;)

2.) The monster must be scannable. Obviously bankers aren't in my guide because it is irrelevant to scan them - they aren't a combat monster.

3.) I sort of lied. The monster doesn't HAVE to be scannable. It can be an unscannable monster (see section 3 of my guide), but it must fit the following condition: does NOT appear in cutscenes AND (has a combat level OR (has hitpoints AND an attack-option))

To the future of knowledge! Good luck...

  2. What's wrong with private servers? They are against the law (even though copyright and patent laws are among some of the most backwards and disgusting that exist).

If you can keep this discussion Private server based i won't lock this, but from where im sitting, it looks like you just want to rant about MMG.

There are a couple of reasons why Jagex don't like Private servers that i can think of off the top of my head.

    1. They are illegal, Runescape is a Copyrighted product, if you made a game, would you want people copying it and letting people use it for free?

    2. Security. It is a massive security risk for any player who uses them. God knows what 'extras' they could add into the game, and i also bet numerous people use their runescape acc and pass aswell on them.

Also, please can you give some proof of that chat with MMG, if not i will remove it, as it's just random flame, and it's unfair to him, and to anybody that looks here and think's its real.

Your second point isn't really an issue due to a special branch of engineering called "reverse". I remember once a scammer posted a program to steal players' passwords on the Tip.It forums. Much to his frustration (and earlier claims that it was "encrypted and protected"), I replied with his source code.

actually the only file you edit in the client, is the .bat, which isnt a copywritten file as .bat is a public extension and you can make your own aka not modifying the client 1 bit

Most of the time I respond with a technical answer. Tonight, my response will instead be: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL thank you for allowing me to go to bed happy tonight.

  3. Nah, I think all the new graphics are superior. I saw the 2d whip sprite and thought "eww", but then after I saw it actually in my hand, I thought "[bleep]y awesomeness". And tweening applied to the animations really makes a difference.

  4. Sorry about that. I'd changed around some of the internal coding of the site and apparently broke some things. This code was written from years ago and the bad coding continued to pile up and I haven't had time to fix it up with my current levels of experience. It should be working now, and would you mind removing the error messages from your post? Thanks.

  5. First of all, it's more likely that DoSing is being used here, rather than DDoSing... I doubt they'd have the resources required for the latter.

Giving out your IP address to random people is like giving out your social security number. But I've never been in an IRC channel for more than five minutes, so it's not like I know much about those. Sorry you got DDOSed.

At your first sentence, I am trying hard to resist repeating the "lololololol" 100 more times, or smashing something. For my good health, sir, please leave the Internets.

I know you're a girl. Sir sounds funnier.

Um, runescape identity theft, hello. Havn't you ever called Bank of Runescape (Formerly Bank of Varrock)? Thats how you verify your identity ;)

However, posting your IP to the general public isn't really a good idea. Right now, only forum mods have access to it. You may fall victim to a DoS(if they wanna waste their time) just to piss you off.

Let them, I really do not care; I wanted to prove my point.

  6. I just happened across this post while trawling the internet for archives of old world maps. I have been keeping an archive myself since September 2004, but missed everything before then. The two earlier ones linked at the beginning of this forum post filled in the gap quite nicely.

I've added them to the beginning of my personal archive with estimated dates based on the presence or absence of quest-specific map locations and quest symbols.

My archive currently comprises 56 maps starting from the last one available for RSC right up to the most recent downloadable map as of 21 July 2009, and is viewable at this location (Total size of all maps currently over 80Mb)

VERY nice, this will help a lot. And welcome to Tip.It!

  7. First of all, it's more likely that DoSing is being used here, rather than DDoSing... I doubt they'd have the resources required for the latter.

    1. someone you DIDN'T KNOW asked you to join an irc, that is a little bit dodgy by itself

    2. You're a pjer, thus should expect to be killed and targeted by any real pker with half a braincell. If you want to fight for real, which you probably can't, i'm happy yo volunteer. If you're going to pj, do it properly like bruno.

    3. You die a lot, can't say this surprises anyone here. Lrn2pk/pj.

    4. Letting them see your full ip address? wow, honestly. There's a reason that certain people on this forum have PRIVELEGES to be able to see people's ip addresses. Showing your full I.P to someone you don't even know? incredible

You, me and everyone else on this forum show our IP addresses to hundreds or thousands of people we do not know. It's not private information and never will be.

I don't need any special privileges on this website to get your IP, and there are many other ways than IRC to obtain it. Every network connection you make to another computer, sends out your IP address. Every website you view, every picture, video, every game you play... doesn't matter. IP addresses were never designed to be private. That is how the Internet works and there's nothing you can do about it. You called it incredible that he "showed" his IP address to those people. I guess we're all incredible, then. Hooray for equality!

    Sincerely,

    71.181.50.215

  8. ...

Actually, the throne itself is made out of the hair torn out of the heads of a thousand PKers. The hair is held together by the dried tears themselves. It's also reinforced by the collective ejaculate spilled out by the people marking out for him and his "change."

    LOL that's disgusting...

  9. I bought these the other day... they are excellent.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Clear- ... 760&sr=8-1

Also, Logitech products are of very high quality in my experience, quite durable. I've had a pair of their older, less expensive version for around 2 years, dropped it many times, more than once having the earpiece come right off - popped it back in with no problem.

These new ones sound great, and have 3 different modes for gaming, music (the general setting) and voice chat. The volume controls are on the right earphone allowing you easy access, which is much better than an inline control that you'll tend to hit all the time. Also, pressing on the right earphone mutes the microphone, which also makes the microphone (on the left side) light up red, so if you mute the microphone you'll clearly see that it's muted out of the corner of your eye. The headphones sound very good (laser tuned audio drivers), and the microphone works very well, very clear and no background noise.

Here's a short clip I recorded using Audacity so you can get an idea of how well the microphone works: http://www.zshare.net/audio/62538771bb9fe2b4/

Hope this helps you in your shopping. :)

  10. They need to have the ability to customize which f-key goes to what tab.

You can use programmable keys yourself (Logitech G11)

You don't need a G11 or any specific type of keyboard to do it. just edit the scan codes in the Reg to remap your keyboard. But you have to remember about all the idiots who can't use Google, you have to remember the majority of RS players...

No, no, no... that's the noob's way out. Here's how you do it:

Make a program with a global key hook, and trap all the function keys. Now, get the active window's title. If it starts with "RuneScape - the massive online adventure game by Jagex Ltd. - ", then go on to your remapping function. Here, do a switch statement and do a SendKeys for each function key you want to remap to another. Problem solved, and it doesn't mess up your entire computer.

  11. It's been 2 days since the Firefox 3.5 final release, so I thought I'd posting telling you all to upgrade if you haven't yet.

    Among the new features are:

    - Private Browsing mode (equivalent of IE8's InPrivate).

    - Support for the HTML5

    - Better web application performance using the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine.

    - Improvements to the Gecko layout engine, including speculative parsing for faster content rendering.

    - Support for new web technologies such as: downloadable fonts, CSS media queries, new transformations and properties, JavaScript query selectors, HTML5 local storage and offline application storage, text, ICC profiles, and SVG transforms.

If you have upgraded, what do you think? Have you noticed any real speed improvements? It seems a bit faster to me I guess, and I like the standards support improvements and updates for web development (https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Firefo ... developers).
