  1. I hate to tell you, but I got a head on my 2nd ever trip to the basilisks :). Trouble is, I don't have the construction level to mount it, so it's just sitting in the bank until I do. I think I was just lucky :)
  2. Monkfish and anglerfish are indeed the same thing. The head isn't eaten, only the tail. It's a very meaty fish, not unlike lobster in taste and texture (no bones in the edible parts!), and is one of the most expensive you can buy. This never used to be the case, with monkfish often being used as the meat in 'scampi', because it was cheaper than prawns. However, none of us should be eating monkfish now (in real life) as it's been very much overfished and stocks are not considered sustainable. That's a shame, because it's one of my favourite foods! It's also a message which seems not to be getting through - most fish restaurants still offer monkfish (at a price, of course), and my local fishmonger nearly always has it on display. Save the monkfish! I think I feel a T-shirt coming on... Never thought I'd be writing about monkfish on this forum...
  3. I like it all..apart from the 'vein' rocks rather than solid ones - need to wear glasses to see when a rock is full - lol. Also, I managed to drop dead last night because I couldn't find the run icon in time! I know where it is now... The area sounds are interesting, but I don't understand why it sounds as though you're standing next to someone snoring whilst you're mining near the swamp? The miners' guild sounds like it has rattlesnakes in it - weird. Anyway, on the whole, an improvement, I think. The Lumby bank came in handy after dying!
  4. I realise I'm new to RS (in my 4th week now, I think) but hope I can still express an opinion. That opinion is that cheating is dishonorable, and shows a lack of personal integrity. If you cheat in RS, then I wonder what else you feel it's OK to cheat in? Academic exams, perhaps? Would you feel it was right to try to 'beat' the exam system just as an exercise in being devious and in some way proving that you were better than those who set the rules? I don't think there are degrees of cheating - a cheat is a cheat is a cheat - and if you're prepared to do it (and attempt to justify it) in one instance, why not in others? Personal honour is not something which changes with the situation, or likelihood of being caught out - it's a constant which applies in all areas of your life, not just your online gaming behaviour. I value my moral standards far above the ability to outsmart Jagex or anyone else, and consequently cheating would never even cross my mind. To compromise your honour for such trivial reasons seems bizarre to me...
  5. I tried to tell someone I was 'on phone' the other day, and it was blocked, so I had to tell them I was 'talking down a communicator' instead...lol! Jo
  6. Thanks Twiley for resurrecting this thread - I mentioned yesterday in the 'funny things noobs say' thread that I'm 47, and felt like Methuselah. I feel better now! Please say hello if you see me in game - I'm usually doing something tedious like mining ad infinitum - RSN is Charliesaunt, and I tend to lurk on worlds 11 and 80. I like to think I have a life, but live in the middle of nowhere, don't have kids, and my husband is addicted to a couple of online games which hold no interest for me, so I found Runescape by looking for something I could do whilst he was conquering the universe. We've both got Guild Wars accounts too, but I have some video card issues which mean it keeps crashing on me - hence Runescape! Oblivion was a recent passion, but I'm giving it a rest at the moment. We've both been gaming ever since the very first D&D set went on sale - circa 1977/8 - came in a box with incomprehensible rules and some lead figures..lol! I like RS 'cos it focuses on more than just killing things or people - where else could I combine my love of cooking with fantasy? There's a thread somewhere that says cooking is a dying skill in RS - but I reckon that's only true if all you're there for is improving your combat stats. I got SUCH a sense of achievement from baking my first pie! Anyway, Im babbling, will shut up now, and go get ready for work - I only work part time, so I'll be back mining/cooking again this afternoon - I like the peace you get in the early afternoon on RS - not so much competition for the iron! Jo
  7. OK, so I've only been playing for just over a week, but I've had my fair share of bizarre conversations.... Him: How old are you? Me: 47 [hadn't read the rule abouit sharing personal info at that point] Him: 47? Really? I'm 13 Me: I remember 13 Him: Are you married? Me: Yes Him: Do you have a really bad ***life or something? Me: No, I have a husband who is addicted to gaming... Him: I'm not really 13, I'm 21, but said I was 13 becoz I thought only kids played this game... Now I feel like the world's oldest player.... am I? Jo (16 on the inside!)
