  1. Hmm.. weird thing here.. i used Neweggs Power calculator. I filled in what things im getting for my comp, and it calculated that I only need around 377W of power. :| Either way, sticking with my 500w, Here's some i found that were modular http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Tempo ... hangeQty=0 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6817189012
  2. Ha! Water cooling. That's awesome. So i get what you're saying about Nadril and Oldjoe and them helping, that's what i love about tip.it I've come to tip it for everything.. from guide making, to problems with my RL fish. AHEM* Back on track now. I have settled with that q6, and imma use the money i saved to get a better PSU. I'll return when i find some that are modular.
  3. [hide=Wall of Quotes] What do the ratings stand for? Quad 6600? I too was put off by the high cost of the processor.. but I'm still dieing for that 2.83 I just need some extra cash. PS. Would anyone recommend after i get my comp, to get a better quality Processor fan? Because some of the reviews says it gets hot. You're not going to notice the difference, especially without using a previous quad to it's max. Not to mention the fact that you could easily overclock the Q6600 to like 3.0Ghz on air cooling. I do think it's better to buy now, than upgrade later. But, if that's what you want, you should buying a Core i7. Completely right. The extra 200 Mhz won't make much difference, and the Q6600 can easily, easily, be overclocked to 3Ghz, while the Q9400 isn't that great for overclocking. Get the Q6600. [/hide] So i looked at the three processors.. And that .4 puts me off. Now you're all saying that its capable of more. The q6600, starts at 2.4 The q5500 starts at 2.83 And the q9400 starts at 2.66 Now to 2.4 has completely awesome reviews, but it is supposedly slower than the 2.83. However the 2.83 is expensive.. very expensive. Based on all your experience, what would you guys think that 2.4 would ACTUALLY run at? Without any tempering? Because as someone said, its like adding Nitrous to a car, but it can hurt it if you're not careful. Now i did originally want 2.6GHz Minimum.. but i cant argue with those reviews. None of the other ones have reviews like that.. which is surprising, as you would think they would be faster. Now the advantage of the q6, as I call it, is that with that extra money I've saved, I'll be able to spend it on that nice Modular Corsair PSU, or another Modular one. In all honesty, I am leaning towards the q6, but I'll still look around before making my final announcement. Thanks.
  4. Overclocking would consist of doing what? Played a CPU-challenging game? Or something more complex? Jaerk- Yeah.. I'm only a couple days away from buying them.

  6. Yeah, this is my first time with quad.. and i get where you're comming from. but don't you think its better to get a fast one now, instead of upgrading again down the road?
  7. Listening to what you just said, i will speak up. I don't know what you were talking about in the first paragraph  Was it the hard drive? Because i have a 250gb external hard drive, and for what it's worth, i could use that if i really needed too. If you where talking about something other than hard drives... :anxious:
  8. Ok. Quick update here, I've settled for the http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822136073 Hard drive, 70 bucks, over 1100 good reviews. Now, One piece left, obviously it's the most expensive #-o Now, quad has been decided on, and the only real difference between my two choices is about 70 bucks, for an extra .2 GHz What do you guys think? Again: 2.83GHz -390 dollars http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819115041 2.66Ghz -320 dollars http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819115131
  9. Yeah.. that's what i thought. Just wondering if i had to buy one, or if it came with it already. BTW.. Even to this day.. your avatar still makes me jump
  10. Mmk, that's what i was leaking towards anyways, as the other one seemed kinda cheap. Well thanks.. only a few more pieces left. One question though.. sound.. is there anything for it? or is it just the quality of your speakers?
  11. Ok, these are the ones I was interested in, tell me what you think. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813130185 This one's a bit cheaper than what you suggested.. but it still had good reviews. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813186138
  12. Quick question. How do i know if a Mobo will be compatible with my graphic card? Because some of them say Nvida, but mine is ATI.. or something. This is the Mobo I'm looking at. It seems to be the one with the most good reviews, and the price is nice. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813188026
  13. - You've already gotten help there : Follow Joe's advice. He knows what he's doing. - Building a computer can be difficult, but doesn't require everything you're doing (just do it already!!) ...And Nadril was right. When you're looking at really similar processors, or other components, just get the cheapest one. You won't recognize a few Mhz in clock speed, or a faster fan, or w/e. As long as the manufacturer is decent and it'll do what it's supposed to, buy it. You're even starting to piss me off... Ahh yes.. those ones. PSU: Pass Case: Pass Processor: Pass Hard drive: Looking in to Graphic card: Already got Memory: Pass Motherboard: Not very good comments, im looking into it. Thanks though, the hard drive seems good!
  14. That's why I stopped helping a while ago. Before this topic he was going to buy a desktop prebuilt FYI. Then he was going to build a dell (because he was worried about the warranty) and now he will build it himself? Quinton, just get the damn cheapest one. You aren't going to notice a 20Mhz Core clock difference! Well, replying to what Nadril said about me not noticing the difference, il go with the powercolor, because it had the most votes, although the ASUS is the same price after rebates. So let me guess, no more help for the motherboard, hard drive, or processor?
  15. Thing is, I don't think i know it all.. quite the opposite really. Im constantly searching words just so i can understand what the item has. And I take all suggestions into consideration, not just one. I really don't want to [censored] up my first go at building a computer, or il just have wasted like 200 dollars. I need a computer that will last me for YEARS. So i cant just necessarily go with the cheapest, nor with the most expensive. Im sorry if anyone's getting irritated, (Although that does seem to happen on my posts :? ) But I'm just trying to make the best decision. Two people have recommended the powercolor, but im not just willing to fork out $200; i need more opinions, and research (Which I am doing every day.) I still have the processor, which i know nothing about, and that's 300 dollars. The motherboard is another 150-200, and the PSU and Graphics card and the hard disk are also expensive. Again, sorry if anyone's gotten irritated.
  16. That's me.. The worrywart. So, Now for the Graphic cards: This time i did it on Microsoft paint to save some time. Now the VisionTek is apparently the best, but again, you get what you pay for, at 219 bucks.
  17. Hehe.. sad part is, i was on google. -.- Now i Really do like the modular. Before i knew what that meant, i liked the corsiar, because i saw in the pictures that the cords were detachable. Oh well, we can sort out the PSU later. Time for the Hard disks. Making another table as we speak.
  18. Quick question: What does modular do?
  19. New Idea! Ok. As i was laying in my bed yesterday, and starting to fall asleep, i was thinking of this post. (Am i obsessed or what? :-# ) Anyways, I've created a new way to compare the products on tip it, as i was causing you all to do too much work for me. Here's the first example. Lets start with the PSU (Get the worst one out of the way) I'll nominate my fave choices, about 4 or so, and Il compare them, Like this: Now as you can see, the Corsair is the best, but it Is the most expensive. Well, Let me know what you guys think!
  20. ya know.. between you and me, i thought i did too. -.- Looks like I'll just have to pull out a bit more reserves. I got $500 extra cash.. soo. Now. The PSU's have been costing me a lot of trouble. I can obviously change the one I put on the front page, and i might. However, i want to get one last area started today, and il come back to the PSU's on my own time. Hope no one minds. Now. Hard Drives. Looking for only around 500gb, i don't need anything more. Here's some i picked out. Although the fact that some of them were rated by only a few people unnerves me. Western Digital Caviar: Rated by over 1500 people, Average rating is 4/5, 500GB @ 3Gb/s, 16mb Cache (Thanks to jason and Wikipedia  ) $79.49 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822136073 Western Digital Caviar: All the same specs as the one aforementioned, which is kinda weird. $73.49 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822136149 The One I like the Most Seagate Barracuda 7200: 500Gb @ 3Gb/s, 32mb cache (Over twice as much as the Western Digital ones) 5 year part and labor warranty, FREE SHIPPING, $81.49 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822148288 Another Seagate one: Seagate SV35: 500GB @ 3Gb/s, 32mb cache, $97.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822148301 My fave is the barracuda. Anyone got any opinions?
  21. If you're looking to save money on Ram you could always get Kingston which are an excellent brand which I personally use. Of course Corsair are an excellent brand so it doesn't matter which one you pick. As for Power Supplies I haven't heard of most of the ones in this topic :? But from the reviews they seem pretty good. Also about the numbers in the CPU 9400 & 9550 are just the names (as far as I'm concerned) and LGA775 is the socket. In this case Socket 775 and 95W is just the Thermal Power if you look under the Specs. =D> good job Wikipedia. For the memory, I'll use yours, i compared yours and mine for like 5 minutes, the reviews for both were flawless, and the only advantage mine has is a heat dissipation thing for the memory cards, but my computer is cool enough to begin with, so that's not worth 20$ extra. Woohoo! One more part down!
  22. Ahh, that's what i needed so: 20-24 pin X1 Sata connectors X2 6 pin pic-e connector X1 If i upgrade my card i'd need a Molex connector. So as long as it has the first 3 types, im good. So looking at the stealth It has everything i need, except the molex, and it has 4 peripherals. After all that, I think im going to get the Xclio 500W. but what are the perip-s plugs for? Imma chose the Xcilo over the stealth because the reviews are better, and it comes with additional cables that are in a separate bag. One last comment i would like on it, has anyone heard anything good about Xcilo? Cause from all the reviews, it seems like a good buy. Next Section. Thankfully, i am approaching the end, as i am adding more and more pieces to the front page list. Only a couple of things remain. First: RAM. I would like 4gb, and good quality. Thankfully, i found just that. Corsair 4GB (2 x 2GB) -$67.29 The reason i choose this is because it has 741 reviews, and they mostly all good. (Overall rating is 5/5) And It's also the one that most people bought. However, i don't know the speed, because i cant understand what the numbers represent. Anyone think it's a good buy? And the other thing i want to start, leaving the last 3 till the end (Megaboard, Graph- Card, Hard disk) is the processor. You guys have already convinced me to go Quad, but now for the actual piece. I would like 2.6 Ghz Minimum. Now, Just by looking at the quads, i can tell its going to be an expensive piece. Here are the only two that i would even consider buying. At 2.66Ghz, and for 329dollars, with a 6mb cache, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819115131 And the upgraded version, 2.83Ghz, and for 390 dollars, with a 12mb cache, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819115131 Now i am willing to pay the extra little bit for the 2.83 one, but there are couple things that confuse me. Cache: I see it all the time, but i don't know what it does, and what its for. The other numbers in the names of the processors: 2.83Ghz one: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor 2.66Ghz one: Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Anyone able to help?
  23. Yay, I can add the optical drive to the front page post, now that I know that I'm getting it. PSU - That Blue Storm one is pretty nice.. but here's where i really need your help. Do you know which cables i would need for: 1 Motherboard 1 Optical drive 1 Hard drive The case fans (3 of em) 1 graphic card (if that even takes power) Because the stealth might already have enough. and it looks like a more reliable buy than the Blue Storm.
  24. Ok, the optical drive first, its that one i had on my wishlist, which is good. Can it Brun DVDs, as well as CDs? And does that automatically mean it can read them as well? The Power supply, i understand about the wires, but what happens if i don't have enough for all the "things" in the computer? Would that even happen? Because im only having one of each thing Motherboard Hard drive Optical drive Video card ( if that even takes power) The Case Fans and I think that's it.. all the rest just attaches to the motherboard do you think the stealth would have enough? based on the pictures of the cables? And for that last little bit.. I have a tendency to review things hundreds of times before i make my decision. By doing one part at a time, i can make sure im getting the right one. If i pick one, and someone suggests something else, id have to then compare them again, and it would keep happening till a found a "godly" one. Hope you don't mind about the huge thread :
  25. Hehe.. i can always count on joe, nadril, and jason for nice posts. So, you recommend the OCZ. The nice blue shark is too powerful, and you recommend the powercolor and HIS. (That's 2 votes for powercolor now.) Power supply: I went back to the stealth, and i looked at all the pictures. There were only about 4 cables, which worries me. The main power cable, and 3 different little ones. Now, if you look at the Thermaltake http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6817153028 Its the same voltage, but it has more cables, or at least, more of the smaller ones. It also has a higher rating than the stealth. Do you still recommend the stealth? Video Card: That's-- Powercolor - 2 HIS - 1 Sapphier - 0 MSI - 0 Vision Tek - 0 Asus - 0 Based on the original 5 that I found. Il wait a bit longer.. as i would like something like 5 votes on a card; but that can wait. What do you guys think about that memory? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6820145184 Next section - Drives Hard Disk : I really didn't know where to go with that.. cause i keep hearing the word SATA, but i don't know what it is. Optical Drives : This was a bit better, I wanted a DVD and CD burner. And a DVD and CD Reader. (This is assuming that burner's cant read) Burner (DVD) : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827151171 -- Samsung (Good company) 22X read. $30.49 Reader (DVD & CD) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827135176 -- Asus, 18X DVD read, 48X CD read. $24.49 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827106261 -- LiteOn 16X DVD read (Less than the Asus aforementioned) 48X CD read (Same as the Asus aforementioned). $21.99 DVD reader and CD Burner (I think) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827106100 -- LiteOn 16X DVD read, 52X CD-R, 32X CD-RW, 52X CD-ROM, SATA. (<-- ??) $28.49
