  1. The stuff in Recruitment Drive (and Digsite too) is basic chemistry, the sort of stuff you should be learning in 7th-9th grade. Information about Astronomy in Observatory Quest barely even scratches the surfaces and the closest thing to physics in RS might be aiming the catapult in CW (I DEFINITELY don't remember anything about calculating the angle at which light will reflect off of the mirrors in Mournings Ends part 2 :P) Still, even after going over all this I think we're all missing the point. We shouldn't have to justify playing a game such as this by saying it is educational. It's another game, another passtime. Whether or not it is educational shouldn't matter to anybody :\
  2. If you rip mp3s at 320Kbit a 3 minute song is like 9MB =P My Transatlantic CD's are 4-5 songs each and they're all roughly 600MB =P The 666th song on my mp3 player is Memphis Bells by The Prodigy, no evil coincidence =(
  3. I disagree with pretty much everything said in this article. Increase in typing skill can easily be attributed to plain old computer usage which involves a lot of typing. As for teaching maths, all it is is basic addition/multiplication (and its as easy as windows+r and typing calc to get the calculator up). And teaching history... what the hell? Objects used in the past != history. As another note, I'm sure many of you know now what a scimitar is, but I would hazard a guess that 80% of you pronounce it skim-i-tar, when the c is silent. A good imagination doesn't necessarily make you a good writer either nor does immersing yourself in a fantasy necessarily make your imagination any better. Writing is a lot about conveyance of an idea or emotion, playing rs would do little to improve your skill in that area. And as others have said, the RS forums are pretty much 10% coherant discussion/posting and the rest is either "bump" or a series of acronyms and bad spelling. I find that when I'm "debating" on the rants or suggestions forum that most people who I'm arguing with do not have the ability to string together a coherant argument. In short, I do not concur.
  4. I sort of noticed the bag thing but I was in a rush to finish. I'll fix it up soon enough. As for how long it took, probably 20-30 mins tops. imo the attacks look fairly distinct. If you have trouble telling arms from legs then I really can't help you :P
  5. Got it as my avatar now but as you can see the amount of optimizing I've had to do is ridiculous. 8kb is really a joke >_
  6. I keep forgetting how brilliant this CD is until I listen to it again.
  7. I used Flash MX. Looks better at the full frame rate (20fps). Working on optimizing to under 8k while retaining anti-aliasing. I may do avatars in this style for you good folk so send me a pm if you're interested =)
  8. Anything that isn't country and even then I can dig some country music. I listen mainly to electronic stuff like Aphex Twin or Squarepusher and prog rock like The Flower Kings or Transatlantic.
  9. Just do what Robert Johnson did. Take a walk down to the crossroads and wait till midnight. Seriously though, learn tabs AND notation. Mainly because if you ever want to get work as a session player being able to sight read tabs and notation is essential. And trust me, thats the only real work you're ever likely to get as a guitarist or almost any musician without going broke for a living.
