  2. Thought this was a pretty kick rear advertisement. Who wants to click it? :P Hoggy
  3. I just had the same problem! First time ever getting to Jad, did perfectly on the prayer switching, started trying to shoot the healers and it all fell apart on me. They just keep looking at Jad and healing him. As I'm scrambling for a solution, boom got hit for 80. (Guess I should have healed all the way to full after he hit me as he spawned!) This makes all Jad guides useless and is kind of unfair to those of us who have to deal with this new issue. But whatever, I still want the cape. I can think of two possible solutions to this: 1. Do so much damage to Jad that the healers aren't able to keep up. It's hard to see how much Jad gets healed by them so I don't know how possible this might be. I'll try bringing some hefty bolts next time just for Jad. 2. Just kill the healers. I'm not sure how quickly they respawn, if they each individually respawn once dead, or if you can perhaps kill three of them and leave one to just minorly heal while finishing Jad off. In any case, the bottom line is, just keep your eye on Jad and try to see what you can do in there. It's a pain but this is what we get for relying too much on player-written guides in an ever-changing game. I paniced when things didnt go my way and lost sight of Jad's movements. FTL. This doesnt bother me as much as the glitchy new quick prayer button making me lose on wave 61. There's gotta be a way to do it.
  4. I just wanted to post to say this guide is great and say a bit about how I fared and explain the exact method I've come to use after trying it out for a few hours. Before I explain what's worked best for me, let me mention that I can make about 300k an hour now even with bad luck at the coffins. I have 83 Ranged, 86 Defence, 90 Hitpoints and 58 Summoning. I use full void range, archer ring, fury amulet, snakeskin boots and accumulator. I use the composite ogre bow with adamant brutal arrows, and the Level 58 Summon Karamthulhu Overlord. I let the enemies hit and disease me and find it doesn't seriously affect me at all. This allows me to use the Overlord to almost double the speed I kill Zogres at. Even if I lose a few hitpoints, I can grab a bit of food when I bank at Castlewars to deposit bones, which I do every few minutes. The only way disease could hurt me would be by lowering my Ranged or Defence significantly, and they only rarely get lowered. A single restore potion is enough to deal with this and dirt cheap. I've tried using prayer but I get diseased through it anyways sometimes. Safespotting would mean my summon would not attack which really isn't an option now that I've found how much faster it makes it. The nice thing about this spot is that it is *so close* to the Castlewars mini obelisk, so you can constantly use your familiar's special which, for me, makes the Overlord almost as good a damage dealer as I am with my adamant brutal arrows. I find that I run out of summoning points about the same time as I'm full up on bones and have to go back to bank anyways. I don't bother wasting money on scrolls, just use the "Drown" special which takes a summoning point or two. So what I do is this: Go to castlewars. Put on the gear I described above, and take in my inventory 1 Duelling ring, 1 Restore potion, and one Karamthulhu Overlord pouch. I run to the mini obelisk outside of Castlewars. Summon the Overlord. Refill summoning points immediately. Run to the Zogre area and start fighting. While fighting, I always try to keep two Skogres or Zogres attacking me at all times or at least start the next one attacking me before the first one dies, so that the Overlord keeps fighting them back constantly without having to stop and realize that I'm in combat again, which takes 2-3 combat rounds. I make sure to approach the enemies and *NOT* let myself safespot them, so the Overlord doesn't think I'm out of combat and refuse to fight. I use the overlord's Drown attack every 20-30 seconds or so, I'm not sure of the exact delay between uses. I keep an eye on my Defence and Ranged as the disease hits me. If either drops more than 8-10 points i drink a sip of restore, but most runs I won't take more than one or two sips and I've never needed more than four. I pick up drops between shots while still fighting. Once I'm about 2-3 inventory spots from full, I start to use the keys on the coffin near the staircase, still letting the Zogres hit me so that my Overlord will continue attacking them, still using the Drown spec every few loots, and firing a few shots off if I have time between loots or if they get killed. I find that I'll kill another 4-6 Zogres after I first start looting, and then I'm full up. I only keep bones of all kinds, grimy lantadymes, and charms. Everything else is junk and I drop it immediately. The damaged weapons and armor aren't worth the inventory space. Once I'm full, I use duelling ring teleport, deposit all, take out only a full restore potion and the duelling ring again, run out to the obelisk to refill summon points, and then go back to the Zogres for more. I get about 6-7 runs in the time I have the Overlord for, which is 44 minutes. This method is actually very fun, because I'm being attacked by multiple enemies and have to juggle attacking them, picking up drops, using the Drown special, and watching my ranged and defence levels for disease damage, all the while in no serious danger of being hurt. With level 86 Defence and the gear I described, the most I've been hurt was down to 53/90 hitpoints but that was only after a full 44 minutes, just to see how much they could hurt me if I didn't eat and let a lot of them hit me constantly, sometimes three at a time. Even just eating a single tuna every run to Castlewars would make up for this. The only downside to this method is that you end up diseased and with lowered stats. It doesn't really affect you while you're fighting, but once you're done and want to do something else, you might find that you need to drink a restore potion to have the magic level to use your teleports, or a super restore potion to use your skills again afterwards. I couldn't farm my herbs or trees until I took a sip of super restore. My worst run was the one I actually paid attention to how much I made. I barely got any ancestral bones from the coffins, but still got a total of 240k worth of bones in 44 minutes, with my only costs being about 3 restore pots (1k), 100 adamant brutal arrows (10k) and the Karamthulhu overlord pouch (2k). I started doing this in order to collect bones for prayer levels, and incidentally found a darned good way to get Ranged experience and make money. So far I've made just under a million worth of bones and I've just now steamlined my method. If anybody has any suggestions to do this even better I'd love to hear them. Hogartus
  5. My first and only attempt at a 99 was one that I could "see the goal ahead". I didn't do it to gain any particular new abilities, because the skill I chose was... Cooking. Newberrriffic cooking. After cooking all of my fish for my whole rs career, I was at 82 cooking. I was back on f2p after a couple years of membership, and with little to do, I realized that I had a few million, and that cooking was one of those things that had a decent xp rate even on f2p and wouldn't be a waste of my time, unlike other tasks like combat training which are tremendously slower on free servers. So I hunkered down and started cooking. It was fast, and it was clicking-light, so I could read online while I cooked, and hear when it was time to start the next batch. Within 8 days, I was 99 cooking. Someday very soon I'll buy a month of members and get that cape.
  6. Anybody know what happened today? Half the worlds I tried to get on weren't up. I went to eat and came back to choose a world and got this: When I chose World 1 from the main site my browser just timed out. I don't think there was a system update... so what happened?
  7. Lets put it this way, for about a week straight I was collecting, not seeing a single other person doing it. Then in one day I saw 3 other people coming to collect and sticking at it for an hour or two, and that's on one world out of more than a hundred. Not much of a statistical sampling, but I did manage to ask 2 of the 3 people where they heard it from, and it was this article. The rising price of air talismans was limited to a certain speed by the GE's natural mechanisms. Now the rise has slowed as this new massive source is injected into the game. I think that the turning point happened about a day ago. Supply has outstripped demand. Sure you can still sell the talismans, but there will be a hundred other people selling and who knows how large of a pile people have amassed. I've collected about 4200 personally, but I finally sold when I realized that I was far from the only person collecting and the prices were about to plummet instead of rising 5% every day. It will take time for the price to turn around, but it will. And if it doesn't? The idea will spread. 2 of the 3 players I've seen collecting made a point to tell me not to share the secret, but they share it with their friends too. Within a few months, 10% of new players will be amassing money using this method. People will be showing it off to others in lumbridge just to look cool and make friends, or just to be honest when asked "how do you make your money"? If it does get that far, remember that Jagex does have some interest in preserving game balance. If the most profitable thing you can do in f2p continues to be something you can do within the first few minutes of playing, without gaining any experience or skills at all, and by quite literally "scamming the Duke of Lumbridge" in a way that was obviously not originally intended, they *will* eventually put a stop to it. Perhaps that is the way it should be, but if that's what you believe, then submit a bug report, instead of writing a tutorial about it.
  8. Yes, you *should* have kept this to yourself. You wanted a little free popularity so you posted a good-but-only-good-if-its-kept-low-key money making tip on the internet and now those of us who were using it have been flooded with dozens if not hundreds of new people doing it who are crashing the prices. (current views for this thread: 1100) Was there a good reason to post this for the entire world to see? Only if you want credit for it, when by your own admission you were told by somebody else and didn't find it yourself. I would say that you should take this tutorial down but it's too late. The word is out and soon the very fact that you posted this will have made the tutorial useless because one of two things will happen: 1) air talisman prices will crash back to levels which make this method no better than chopping trees or 2) Jagex will change the way the Duke gives you talismans to protect the price of the secondary ingredient in a high level summoning monster. Congratulations. Hog
  9. Turns out that Mr. Dude just mass kicked everybody. Not the best timing but he apologized. As long as I have somewhere to hang out an vent about RS stupidities I'm happy. -Hog
  10. Okay, I spent about 2-3 hours on forsakenmage's chat. Then, I joined Pope Skills chat, said maybe 2 lines of text along the lines of "hello people" and then got banned for an hour for no reason that I know about. This is stupid! If I get banned from Pope Skills' chat for nothing at all, I don't support him as a channel. I don't know who has admin, but I got banned for nothing other than coming from forsakenmage's chat. If there's no one channel I can go to to talk to tipit people, I'm not going to bother at all. This need to be figured out. I was happy ot use lightning even though it was never administered by lightning herself. We need a channel that has no controversy or disrespect or judgement. I did nothing at all but got banned. What is that about? I hereby put my vote against Pope Skills because of my recent banning for absolutely no reason. I'll hang out on forsakenmage's chat until this is figured out. -Hog
  11. Geez people I just never post here. Its a .cur file and its like 4 kb, its not a freaking virus but please be as paranoid as you would like. And I posted it here because other people would probably enjoy it too.
  12. Here's the thing about this update. Sure it solves problems. Sure it's a real change that will stop scams. But it also is the beginning of the end of any way to make money or otherwise collect value other than by minigames, drops, and skilling. It's an admission by Jagex that they don't really know what to do about cheaters, so they have to change the game so that the aspects of it that both cheaters and honest players alike enjoyed, no longer exist. Now, as a player that started runescape with the thought, "I can't beleive I'm playing this, it's so repetitive and pointless", over time I was able to find that there was some true excitement in the game. It was called the wilderness. And now there's just minigames. And set pricing. Effectively, what Jagex is telling us now is this: we don't trust anybody. You all could be cheating, so we're removing any chance you ever had of getting something from somebody else whom you may have otherwise compensated without our knowledge. Personally, you can talk my ear off about the necessity of locking the game down like this, but I couldn't care less. Why did I pay for membership anyways? It was so that the game could be improved and to support the company that made a game that I could always enjoy. Nobody could convince me that there was no other way to deal with this problem than by reducing the freedoms of all the players and changing the game so that those freedoms we used to have disappeared. I feel handcuffed by forced pricing, robbed of the most exciting aspect of the old runescape, and disenfranchised by the company that took the easy way out of the problem rather than sticking to solutions that wouldn't hurt its loyal player base. I fell punished for something I didn't do. I've withdrawn my financial support to Jagex, and I'll miss it, but there's nothing I can do to get back what I miss. Are the new aspects of the game going to be able to replace what we lost? No. The freedom of being able to go into a bank and get a quick sale for double the standard price of an item are gone. I don't even agree with the very idea of a "set price" because so many factors go into what people are willing to pay for something. Remember 1k single law runes? The ability to just wander around half the game and take random whacks at anybody you see are gone. The wilderness cannot be replaced by a minigame. The magic of open pk is already lost. In time maybe I'll find enough enjoyment with the game to change my attitude. But right now I'm mourning the death of one of my favorite games.
  13. No, actually when you try and turn it in before you finish the quest, the king says, "The certificate doesn't even have your name on it!" I actually picked up some stuff off of somebody who died at Hill Giants, I think he wasn't paying attention to hp. Me and a couple other players rushed the spot where he died. One of the things I picked up was one of the halves of the Shield of Arrav. The other couple of things were a pair of rune boots and an obby cape, which were also nice. Having the Shield half let me do the rest of the quest myself without another partner to get the other half. I ended up with an extra certificate that would have had a name on it that I didn't know, because I didn't know whose stuff I took. I wonder if he was ever able to complete the quest... ;)
