  1. Here are my stances on the following questions:

Why or why not do you like Merchanting.

I neither hate nor incredibly like merchanting. I may not mind to merchant every once and in awhile due to the ease of making profits steadily or quite quickly. However, I do not enjoy merchanting due to the contributionless style of it (you are not really generating new items in RuneScape by you own hard work). When I mine or smith something for sale, I have a feeling that I am contributing to the RuneScape economy and truly generating new surplus items.

    Is merchanting unfair?

Heavens no! Its a very honest practice when done the correct way. Any division of Sales careers in real life embody the same concepts and are believed to be fair. So the same should mostly apply to RuneScape as well.

    Are Merchanters scammers?

A portion of them are. There is no way I can confidently say they are not but gladly it is really a select few that choose to scam (not the whole majority). When I say scam that means they item switch at the trade screen, grossly overprice items/grossly underbuy items, fool new players into paying ridiculous prices/sell for ridiculous prices, etc.

And the last question are players who expose merchanting schemes right or wrong?

Expose as in revealing the sales methods of these merchanters? Of course they are right to do so. This in reality is public information therefore the merchant has no right to claim it damaging.

  2. Hey all! Well here is the first batch of blog updates for you. The weekend was extremely busy for me so I mostly did some late night leveling. Pretty minimal xp gains, I believe I earned around 10k more than I previously had in mining xp. I am beginning to feel ever so closer to 85 rune mining! Since this time is soon approaching, I'm thinking of scheduling a mock wildy trip to the Rune Rocks. I'll take my pick and rune scimmy with me (hidden in my inventory of course), to similate what my future rune mining trips will be like. No telling what may happen to me on this simulated rune mining run. I may post a pic or two of the trip and post a few close encounters if there are any to tell :ohnoes:...

2:49 PM PST Edit: Went up 70k xp since this morning, go me :D !

3:08 PM PST Edit: Decided to end the day off with an 80k xp gain.

  3. Well since the question is "would they ever be more non-tradable holiday drops," the answer would be yes. Jagex might be trying to lessen the monoply that tradable holiday items were creating on the rare market by making the new holiday drops untradable. We honestly do not need another party-hat-like-400-mil rare/holiday drop to further engorge the rare market. Then again one could argue that the more quantities of rare items, the more the prices will drop (that is if the supply starts to extremely exceed demand).

  4. Good luck on 99 mining , its a hard 99 but possible and im

sure you will make it. Get out of that rimmington mine and

head for al'karid the random people stealing your spot occasionally

is far better then 30,000 xp an hour in rimmy.

Sell those addy ores , they have gone up to 1.4k each i

    just sold all my. \'

Wubs that the super awesome Sumarai Lassie, the currently 94 mining legend, posted in her blog <3:...Somehow I just love the peace of Rimmington, but I will stroll by Al Kharid occassionally to speed things up. I did post in the smithing forum to sell the addy but haven't been able to meet up with the buyer any of these days.

  5. BLOG NOW MOVED TO HERE!

Lady Shahdie here, pleasure to make your acquaintance! Some who have glimpsed my signature know I was one of the crazed hopefuls dreaming of 99 mining <img src='http://forum.tip.it/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_upup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':<img src='http://forum.tip.it/ipbnew/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='^_^' />:' />. Well I did manage to dream my impossible dream and I am still at it! I have decided for my next test of fate to wield my hammer and smith my way to the glory of 99 smithing! Below you will find a little about myself, details about my RuneScape character, and pictures of my levels along the way…

I am a 19 year old college student. I am currently attending a Cal State college and majoring in English. I have future plans however to go to Cinema school and get an education in the art of film making. I always had a passion to tell stories and I love the way film can bring a story to life. I was born in America but do possess Persian blood in me and my RuneScape name "Shahdie" means happiness (so you can also refer to me as Lady Happiness :D). I am a total cat person and owner of a mischievous Maincoon but recently adopted a dog into my family. I am a rare breed of girl who enjoys playing video games, computer games, and any other enticing virtual adventure. I am particularly fond of RPGs (probably due to my story telling background). I also love graphic design and try some amateurish attempts in Photoshop (like designing my own sigs and headers).[/hide]

[hide=Lady Shahdie on RuneScape]The following is a run through of my character on RuneScape.

    Where'd You Hear About RuneScape?

A friend of mine at school mentioned it once. I became intrigued by his description of it, so I started researching it and decided to sign up.

    F2p or P2p?

I spent a long stint during my RuneScape career as a pure F2P player. While I said in my previous blogs that it was my desire to obtain membership when I personally possessed the means…my first exposure to it was thanks to a very special gift from a very special friend (Kietaro <3). I now possess members again thanks to securing a reasonable income as a teacher’s assistant at my university. Members is quite an exciting new experience but at the end of the day, good old F2P will possess the most dearest place in my heart <!-- s<3: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_love.gif" alt="<3:" title="Love" /><!-- s<3: -->.

    Favorite World?

Randomness is my mantra. I have no favorite world or home world.

    Why the Air Tiara?

I've been getting this one alot lately so here's the story. Ever since I was a noob on RuneScape I always wanted a piece of clothing that would define my look (apart from the terrible looking bronze armor). I would scavenge for chef hats or shop at the Varrock clothing store and wear the items short periods of time before dumping them. One day as I passed the Falador air altar I saw a silver object on the ground that attracted me (similar to the way a child is attracted to "Oooo shiny!") I picked up the tiara and immediately fell in love with it. Even when I matured from noobdom and reached levels where I could wear more appropriate runite gear, I could not bear to give up the tiara and allowed it to be the signature item that would define my look. I certainly love how it goes quite well with my Saradomin now <img src='http://forum.tip.it/ipbnew/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_upup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':<img src='http://forum.tip.it/ipbnew/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='^_^' />:' />.

    Other Stats?

Though I am truly committed to smithing at the moment, I occasionally take a break from my hammer and casually level other stats...(please don't poke too much fun at their noobiness )

    Why 99 Smithing?

There were several 99s that peaked my interest during my journey to 99 mining. Despite my old adage that "I'm not really a fighter," combat was a great way for me to take a break whenever I needed to and I'm quite sold on going for 99 def some day. However, I'm still a skiller at heart so I still decided against a combat 99. There were also the other gathering skills such as fishing (catch fishies at a faster rate, yes please) and woodcutting (not as a big a fan of wc however it still has its merits) that are impossible to be purchased. However, at the end of the day, I'm truly a Mason (no pun intended one of the clans I happen to be a member of) of Runescape. And what is a Mason without the ability to wrought amazing pieces out of precious metals? So after answering this question in my mind…I knew smithing would have to be the next 99 to chase![/hide]

  6. i am sick of noobs .... nubs in the mountians nubs in the plains

nubs in the mining spots nubs nubs nubs froobs what ever you call

them come back another day .

    bored so i wrote this:

    1) begging from nubs luckily noobs think trimmed armour

is better then a santa hat so i dont get flamed by begs

that much but it happens a lot and also can you mine me

    runite garrr! :x

    2) "my main has 1bill and will own you" no one has actully

show me there so called main before i have had 1million of these

    3) fighting over mining spots like "hey, ummm excuse me your mining

my rocks . Im 30,000 xp from 94 mining please just find another

world and come back in 50 minutes and ill be gone" usually gets

"NO ! YOU NUB GO GET LOST I OWN YOU!" as an answer.

    4) my favourite ... pretending they know things - "smithing is

number 1 for money on my main who got haxed a few days ago

i made rune sets and made 300mill +" i usually explain that

you loose money or something similar to what ever they have

said and usually continue to lie!

You wrote the book my friend :XD: ! 1-4 always happens to me on every single powermining session (minus "can you mine me rune"). I hate throwing around the word noob but their attitude certainly certifies total noobship...

  7. Those who may appear to have lack luster spelling skills do not bother me that much. In many cases those people are new to the English language and may not have developed strong spelling mechanics yet. The thing that I gripe about and cannot stand is 1337-speak. Its incredibly harder to type and decipher the following: "Pl0x m8 I need h3lp or dis guy pwnzzz m3 & st34lz my l00tz!!11!!!" When one can just type: "Please help me or this guy will kill me and steal all my loot," in half the time or less without searching the keyboard for all those numbers and inserting the colorful misspellings. I'm sure a few others feel the same way, right?

  8. Unfortunately I am a very late RuneScapian and got into RuneScape after the cabbage days (basically I registered close to 5 months ago). It actually seems like a brilliant word to vent off steam ::'! I think it wouldn't hurt to be put back into use. But people are such cabbages now adays you know...

  9. Though I hate being frugal (and I honestly was considering the lvl 126 for a second), I would go for the party hat set. Mostly for the same reason someone had mentioned earlier...that by selling the phat you could very well have enough for plenty of raw materials to achieve lvl 99s in many skills as opposed to the 3 combat ones (well 4 counting prayer).

  10. Warning: I'm going to get preachy. Stop reading here if you don't want to listen to a sermon.

I don't think I'd utter nary whimper nor whine if all rares were dropped, alchemized or destroyed by some other means. It's unethical as is to be trading entire game earnings of a player for ONE item anyway, nor do I think it is ethical that thousands of players lucked out on these drops and are now hoarding them for value. Kind of seems really jacked up to the guy that didn't come online until that happened...

I also feel that this causes a rift between player "classes". Most people that played in Classic would agree that 'wealthy' meant having at least 750K in their bank and a combat set of Rune on free. Nowadays, you're considered very poor if you have just that in your bank, anywhere. After the partyhat economy exploded after RS2 release, things became really strange...prices went up higher than they ever should have been, not for a fun and novelty item.

I guess you could say that I do think it is acceptable. No sense in letting one group of very lucky players hoard every ounce of wealth, now does it?

A Little Off-Topic: I think your analysis is very interesting and possibly true, however, the argument of not letting one group of very lucky players have amazing amounts of wealth kind of goes against Rs's capitalist-like economy. Now I don't know if this is at all what would happen or is even possible to happen but it might turn out to be something like the following... If wealth was somehow distributed evenly it would turn RuneScape into a bit of a miny communist economy. Most people's average wealth would trickle down to a mere 100gp or less (considering how many people play this game!) The economy would still sort of adjust prices of raw materials to match that average wealth but it may very well be the same situation as before. Like to buy 1k coal ores it would take around 1k gp (which would still be very wealthy in an economy where the average person has 100gp). Anyways (my apologies if this was a really lack luster way to examine economics; I'm not one for numbers, figures, or business #-o )...

Back On Topic: I hardly believe that dropping/alching rares would be a major impact on the economy. It might be a significant dive in some senses but the raw material market is way more vital to RuneScape. Raw materials are what fuel skillers, pkers, and merchanters. Also, its being debated in other threads that these rares are disappearing enough as it is. Now assuming that many rares may now be slipping out of existence; its interesting to see that there still is a thriving market for them! All in all, as important as the RuneScape economy is, the game was mostly made to be an enjoyable RPG not a miny game economy... And yes I think its acceptable (sorry that I almost forget to answer the main question :wall:).

  11. I don't approve of the search for popularity in RuneScape or real life. It shouldn't matter to have the masses look up to you. Trust is something gained when fellow players have seen you over a period of time being honest, hardworking, and kind to others. You still shouldn't try to act more kind or humble just to gain that though. Just be yourself. Trying to reform your way of socializing or looking for self-help advice is silly in my opinion. Also, as others have mentioned, being in that position can also be dangerous. Many people on Rs or real life may intentionally or unintentionally use you (maybe even deceive you).

  12. 35,000 xp today i do not feel like mining today

    rough day :( .

Don't be disparaged Samurai Lassie! You need to give your mind a bit of time to breath and take breaks. I wasn't so active leveling up my mining last week and was stuck at 74 mining. After reading your post some days ago I got my mining to 75 and now I'm just a mere 40-50k exp away from 76 :D (note: achieved as of 6/21/07 1:45 PM PST) ! Just remember that there is really no ticking clock and as competitive as you are with your friends, you got to let things just happen. Some days I really do not have a goal set in mind to achieve but it just happens I reach the next level that very day. Anyways, still wishing you lots of luck, you have much less a road to that 99 than I do at the moment (drolls over your 93 mining =P~ )...

  13. It doesn't entirely offend me. It depends the way in which they say their skill is better. The simple "I leveled to blank. Nice mine is blank" exchange wouldn't upset me or belittle me. But when they are the type that obnoxiously and rudely rub it in your face: "I leveled to blank. You noob I pwn your pathetic level blank, mine's blank," really peeves me more. Its best just to ignore jerks like that and enjoy your achievement never-the-less.

  14. lets rephrase this a bit. Have you ever played a shooting game? Well if you ahd you know there is a time to shoot, where to shoot, and what to shoot. Does runescape really have situations like that, so you need to know where, when, and what?

Rs is meant to be a strategy-based game. Most RPGs are basically about stat and number crunching plus getting armor and lots of loot. Its just a different style of gameplay. As far as the "where, when, and what," what would you call quests then? Quests involve places to go (where), certain times in the quest you have to perform an action (when), and involve obtaining or meeting something (what). The only difference between the shooter game and Rs, is that it doesn't happen in live action but over a course of time. There are other scenerios in Rs where this also applies besides quests.

  15. Physically no videogame/computer game takes skill (its button mashing, key hitting, time clicking, etc.)...but as far as mental skill, rs does require a bit. Such as finding the most efficient ways to level up, determining weaknesses of different monsters or pkers, being thrifty at buying low and selling high, developing a sixth sense when it comes to guessing the next respawn times of various ores (my personal favorite :P), and many other things that require lots of strategy and diligence.

  16. Before reporting I would first try as best as I can to give a 1 minute grace period and politely ask "Are you all legitamate players?" If they do not respond within that 1 minute I would report those that are extremely likely to be macroers (such as people in the default green clothing, special events clothing, or have names like "vrrbv690").
