Daily Sketch Thread-It is BACK!- topic: angels @@@@@@@@@
bunny30 replied to tttia's topic in Art and Media
I haven't done anything on the current topics yet, but here is a landscape that I did just for fun. I just learned how to use Painter and am practicing with the airbrush tool. This is just a quick study in light and color. -
Here is my latest piece, done in Corel Photo-Paint. I don't think anyone can say that this one looks like Michael Jackson. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/16474419/

This was the second time at least that I've seen a painting on the forum compared to Michael Jackson. Have you ever done one of those ink blot tests? What do you see in these pictures? Anyone who sees Michael Jackson everywhere has serious problems.
-
This is obviously not a completely realistic piece but somewhat stylized. I intended for the lips and eyes to stand out and be focal points to contrast starkly with the dark background.
-
This is based on an airbrush painting that I did a long time ago. I had a digital photo of it, but it was very bad quality, so I repainted it in Corel Photo-Paint.
-
I will probably enter the original moose painting in the art contest coming up. I don't think I will be able to change it much in the next few days because I have to finish two more things as well. Besides, I agree with Wyrm; I really like the stylized look of the original.

Thanks for the suggestions, Keiphus. I might work on the water some more. I have an idea of what to do with it, but I'm working on something else first. It hurts my brain to work on one thing for too long. As it is, I forgot to eat supper yesterday because I was busy painting. And, Wyrm, I haven't seen "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat," either, but I appreciate the sentiments. I think I'll name the moose Joseph.
-
I really like the original better, too. Although it's not realistic, there's something about the movement of the water that I like. You're right; the piece does have kind of a stylized look to it.
-
Here is a revised version of the moose, with the water toned down a little bit.
-
Thanks for the feedback. It does have a somewhat cartoony feel, I agree. I wasn't going for a completely realistic look. It's interesting because I've gotten such varied opinions on the water. People either seem to really like it or really hate it. I like it, but my husband doesn't. On deviantART I've gotten all positive comments; here I've gotten mostly negative comments. Anyway, this was kind of an experiment with different effects since I haven't done much digital art. As far as the bare trees, they actually looked that way in the reference; that part is fairly realistic. I guess they're supposed to be dead. You can see more of my work at http://vejalink.deviantart.com/

This is my first completely digital painting. Just got a Graphire tablet, so I was practicing. This was done in Corel Photo-Paint, with reference. (Actually, I referenced two different photos.)

It's been a while, but I finally have something new to post. This is my first attempt at a completely digital painting. Just got a Graphire tablet, so I am practicing. I did it in Corel Photo-Paint, with reference. (Actually, I referenced two different photos.) -
I don't have that huge set of pencils. I have a smaller set of pencils that was given to me by my art professor when I graduated from college. Otherwise, I couldn't afford to buy them. :)
-
The background was done starting with a black fill, and then I added different shades of brown using the chalk tool to get kind of a textured effect.
-
So it's not a giant rodent, just a little chipmunk attacking some seeds, but my husband made me write that so I would get more views. This was done with Prismacolor pencils, and then I added the background with Corel Photo-Paint, preserving the original pencil strokes in the main subject as much as possible. Thanks to Tttia for teaching me how to use layers.

This is for the topic of tiny things. I did it with Prismacolor pencils and then added the background with Corel Photo-Paint. I have almost entirely preserved the original pencil strokes in the main subject, however. Thanks to Tttia for teaching me how to use layers. -

My suggestion for getting better at drawing with a pencil (or any other kind of art, really) is to practice looking at whatever you are drawing more than at your paper. Get used to noticing the little details. The key to technical skill is observation. Creativity comes in when you can go beyond what you see and adapt it to your vision of art. The more you practice, the better you will get. I was an art major in college, but I'm a little rusty now, I'm afraid. I haven't had a lot of time since then to work on my art. -

I probably won't post the original pencil drawing. It's really quite similar to the finished version. The only differences really are in the depth of color and the enhanced highlights. I also softened the appearance of the fly's wings a little bit. I don't do a lot of digital art, so it's really a traditional piece that just looks a little bit bettter with a few small enhancements. I am working on some more stuff, so I'll post something else soon, I hope. I don't have a lot of free time, so I can't always post a daily sketch. -

The fly's wings actually were pointed like that in the photo I used for reference. The legs are exactly the way they were in the photo, which looks weird, I know. I don't know if they're supposed to look broken or what. Maybe I should have made them look more normal to prevent confusion. And the tip of the leaf actually looked that way in the photo, too. The wings are actually supposed to be kind of tucked under the body up to the point where they are attached. That is the one thing I think could be improved. I didn't quite get the attachment point right, but I am just practicing painting on the computer. It's not perfect, but, hey, it's a daily sketch, not a masterpiece. :) -

This is a Prismacolor pencil drawing that I touched up with Corel Photopaint. I am just learning how to paint on the computer; I am more used to traditional media. This was done with reference. -

This is a very goofy cartoon drawing of an angel bunny (a flying thing). Since I didn't have a signature, I decided to make one to go along with my name. (I am also angelic, of course.) I'll do a plant next, but I'm kind of slow about getting the daily sketches done on the designated day. :) -

I like the dragons. The shading is very good. They look like they could be illustrations for books. -

I used a photo for reference. I am not good at getting the details right if I try to draw from memory.
