Daddy Moose

very nice :)

Only flaws imo are the excessive water swirling (?) that should be caused by a strong backwards movement from the animal while it looks a bit static and probably walking in the opposite direction; and the trees ,the naked ones, that look a bit odd to me.

Liked the background and the moose! :D

Water looks a bit wierd, the ripples anyway.

very nice!

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

yes there are excessive ripples..it may be that he just jumped into the water but then there would be splashing also..i love the detail on the moose..and i like the background besides the trees with little or no foliage

I think it looks amazing.

Since you were going by a reference I don't see any reason to talk about water swirls or bare trees :) I just think the piece looks amazing the way it was painted with the tablet.

Great Job, keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback. It does have a somewhat cartoony feel, I agree. I wasn't going for a completely realistic look. It's interesting because I've gotten such varied opinions on the water. People either seem to really like it or really hate it. I like it, but my husband doesn't. On deviantART I've gotten all positive comments; here I've gotten mostly negative comments. Anyway, this was kind of an experiment with different effects since I haven't done much digital art. As far as the bare trees, they actually looked that way in the reference; that part is fairly realistic. I guess they're supposed to be dead.

I liked the original version more, so I shall comment on it..

I love the moose, and the treeline behind the lake, and the water. It's just got a happy stylized feel to it. The colors in the ripples make for a very nice contrast to everything else, and make the moose more of a focal point, in my opinion...

I guess the only thing that I would change would maybe be to make the bushes? or small trees? a little bit less uniform. The large, bare trees have a maybe similar problem.

Very cool.

EDIT:

I'm looking at the original again, trying to put into words why I like it so much more..

I think it's that they obviously draw your eye, but the direction of the lines and the ammount of lines just shoot your eyes up towards the moose. It's makes a fantastic movement...

It's almost like "Joseph's technicolor dreamcoat"..but...Joseph is a Moose, and the dreamcoat is the light bouncing off the water...and I've never actually read/seen Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat so I really have no clue what I'm talking aobut...

I think the ripple on the second one is a bit better, but it's too severe... Make them less extreme? Less vibrant highlights and shadows... Looks good though. You have that innate skill the rest of us wish we had. :?

The vibrancy is I think what makes the original so great.

Without it, it's a rather [garden tool]-hum dime-a-dozen naturescape. The ripples give it a great stylized unique original cool *insert more adjectives* feel to it ..

Sorry Keiph, I have to agree with GSW on this. :P I like it, Usagi. Me wants to see more.

I was just noting that the second ripple looks more like a tidal wave because of how the highlights were placed. But now that I look at the first one, I agree that they are pretty nifty. 8)

Thanks for the suggestions, Keiphus. I might work on the water some more. I have an idea of what to do with it, but I'm working on something else first. It hurts my brain to work on one thing for too long. As it is, I forgot to eat supper yesterday because I was busy painting.

And, Wyrm, I haven't seen "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat," either, but I appreciate the sentiments. I think I'll name the moose Joseph.

I will probably enter the original moose painting in the art contest coming up. I don't think I will be able to change it much in the next few days because I have to finish two more things as well. Besides, I agree with Wyrm; I really like the stylized look of the original.
