"He turned on his laptop and waited for the software to initialize. As he did so, he suddenly remembered that Jagex had promised a new update today! He quickly opened his browser and navigated to the RuneScape home page. "pmg, a bank update! omg, item lending! zomgzomgzomg, an ftp achievement diary!!" :ohnoes: Oh, it was going to be an exciting day for him. He selected the "Play RuneScape" option, and picked his favorite world. But as the game was loading, the browser suddenly navigated away to another page! "What the hell?... Error loading RuneScape? NOOOOOOES!" :wall: Ah well, now to the meat of the problem. Sorry for making you guys read this far, if you even read the corny story. Anyway, when I load RuneScape using the signed applet with Java, this text appears. "RuneScape has downloaded a new update, but is unable to install it. It seems you do not have permission to write to the directory which RuneScape is using. There are 4 possible solutions." It's really bugging me, because I have to play the game using the unsigned applet, where it loads really slowly. #-o The first solution: "Log-in to your computer as the user who originally installed RuneScape on this machine, and then try loading RuneScape again so it can update itself." The second solution: "Try downloading the RuneScape Windows Client by clicking here, and use that to play the game. The windows client launches RuneScape directly from your desktop. (Requires Internet Explorer 6 or above)." Third solution: "Log-in to your computer as an 'administator' user, and then try loading RuneScape again. This should give it sufficient access to create its temporary cache." The last solution: "As a last resort you can tell RuneScape not to store any files on the harddisk. This will cause the game to load slower, and also won't fix the 'high detail' version of the game." *sigh* I've tried all the options, and please note that I am logged in as the computer administrator. I don't really know what to do at this point. Any help would be appreciated. -.-
