  1. Usually best to go with friends. Also if you go with random people, your level usually helps. Higher means you're there for the exp and will most likely not leave the group. One way to avoid problems is to make groups that are 5:3 or 4:3, that way in case someone leaves you can still finish the floor with the remaining people.

  2. You can either tank their damage under the lighthouse. If you have a decent summoning level, 68+ at least, then you should be fine. You can also kill them in the Chaos Tunnels, but its better to use Protect from Missles there, don't worry though as you usually make the money back from their drops. Not to mention their crimson charm drop rate is really good there.

  3. Curse training in Stealing Creation gear, using level 73 Enfeeble, is 2*83 xp per cast, at the cost of one soul rune if you use a mud staff. It's not exactly combat, as you shouldn't be hitting at all. Move your spellbook tab (specifically: the enfeeble icon) over your target and press f4, click, f4, click...

(Note: melee SC gear also affects mage xp)

    what does f4 do?

What Quyneax forgot to mention is that its best to do it on Full Screen so you can move you mage tab over your target. Hitting F4 will show/hide your magic tab. The first is to click the spell, the second is to click on the target.

  4. Ok, just making sure. I didn't want to sell the clean herb to see if it sells, only to find out that I have to buy the grimy herb after 4 hours.

You could have always checked really quickly. Just buy 1 grimy herb, clean it and sell it on the GE. Of course I haven't cleaned any herbs for a while so I can't be 100% sure so it's best to make sure just in case Jagex has made any ninja changes to the game :ugeek:

Well the reason I asked this question is that if the 4 hour limit applied, after I bought that 1 grimy herb, I couldn't check to see if it sells cuz I'd have to wait 4 hours haha

It doesn't matter anyways now, the herb I was planning on cleaning doesn't even sell at mid

You still could have put it on the GE for min. If it sold then you have your answer. The item can be in the GE, it just won't sell until 4 hours have passed. The same when buying items, I got an offer for 100k fire runes in the ge, but they only sell 25k every 4 hours.

  5. Ok....below is a list of all the monsters Kurdal assigns. Let's assume I'm NOT training slayer, and just looking for a monster to mage that Breaks even or profits. From this list....which monsters will I not loose money on if I were to camp them using Fire Surge(Ice barrage where applicable. (ignore the fact you can't camp Strykewyrms)

    Aberrant spectres

If you were to try you might be able to make profit, but idk how well you can mage them.

    Abyssal demons

One of the best ones to Mage.

    Black demons

Easy to mage due to their weakness, but small chance at profit.

    Black dragons

Hard to mage due to them being leather dragons. Might be able to profit depend on how well you will hit.

    Bloodvelds

Wouldn't know as I only ever cannon them.

    Blue dragons

Mostly the same as Black Drags, but easier to kill.

    Dagannoths

Mage Rex for task and you will surely profit.

    Dark beasts

    Same as Bloodvelds.

    Desert strykewyrms

Idk much about them, depends on how often they drop focus sights.

    Dust devils

Fire Surging them right now, can easily 2-3 hit them. Profit depends on how often u get good drops, and weather or not u get a D Chain. I plan on trying to Barrage these some time later

    Fire giants

Water surging might be better, profit could happen but depends on drops.

    Gargoyles

Like most other tasks, depends on drops. But are easily 2-3 hitted like Dusties.

    Greater demons

Like Black Demons, but easier to kill.

    Hellhounds

Hahahaha, I think you can figure this out.

    Ice strykewyrms

    Best task to mage.

    Iron dragons

Easily maged, I profited when I was using CoG on them. Might do the same with fire surge if you get a dragon drop or 2.

    Jungle strykewyrms

    Same as desert strykewyrms.

    Kalphites

    Same as hellhounds.

    Living rock creatures

    Most likely terrible.

    Mithril dragons

Qeltar did some research on these. There is a guide on runescoop.

    Nechryael

On average I use almost 1k ice barrage cast, and make any where from 300-600k. Slight loss, but can be a quick task.

    Skeletal wyverns

Heard these were ok to mage. Might break even on bones.

    Spiritual mages

    Wouldn't try it.

    Steel dragons

Like Irons but probably less profit, if there is any.

    Suqahs

    Wouldn't try it.

    Terror dogs

    Wouldn't try it.

    TzHaar volcanic creatures

    Wouldn't try it.

    Warped tortoises

    Never had as a task.

    Waterfiends

    Wouldn't try it.

Answers in italics. I will let you know about some tasks once i get a chance to mage them, such as Black Dragons.

  6. I hear it could be off of the creatures charm drop rates. Creatures that don't drop charms, such as DKS, don't drop them.

    Wow... good call.

Lots from Black Demons, Abyssal Demons, Dust Devils, TONS from TD's (4 in ~72 duo kills)... none from Spirit Mages, Gargoyles, Blue Dragons.

I got my first, and only one so far, from a Garg task. But to most Gargs tend to have a high blue charm drop rate compared to other monsters, as do TDs and the others you listed tend to have high crimson charm rates.

  7. I've been mage slaying a lot, at least my last 5 magic levels. Those you listed are very good to mage. Don't forget to use a Wolpertinger on tasks where you don't need healing or inventory spots. Gargs are a good task like that.

A long with the tasks you listed I also mage Greater Demons, Iron and Steel dragons, and barraged Nechs. You can also use spells on Black Demons but profiting depends on the drops. Qeltar has a guide to maging Mith Dragons on runescoop. I plan on maging my Dust Devil task so I'll let you know how it turns out.

The few tasks I don't mage I usually range, cannon, or melee.

As for using Magic Dart instead due to it costing half the price, it also maxes a lot lower and it gives lower exp compared to Fire Surge. If you farm herbs and do MTK then spending money on the best spell shouldn't be much of a problem.

  8. Dragon Claws are the best spec weapon for slaying. Their special attack allows you to kill much faster, reducing the damage you take and the amount food/scrolls/potions you will consume. You don't need Spec Restore potions for this to happen, but they don't hurt the outcome.

Claws are also cheaper, allowing you gp that can be used elsewhere. SGS is useful if you do boss hunting. But again, claws are usually better. Few places this isn't true are like if maging rex. And umm, idk where else.

DFS is only useful at a few places, even fewer if you have a high herblore level. If you melee dragon/wyvern tasks its great there. If you have Super Anti-Fire potions then you don't need a DFS on dragon tasks. One other task are Living Rock Creatures. They have such low defense that you don't need the help of a rune defender, but they still can hit pretty hard so the DFS usually helps.

@OP: Items are nice to have, but levels will always be with you. Herblore doesn't really help until 85 for the aforementioned Super Anti-fire potions. Prayer will always be great to get up. Not only do you unlock new prayers/curses, but it lasts longer and you get more points back from potions. Summoning is also great to get up. Most people suggest that you go straight for 88, for the Unicorn Stallion, but I went to 79 before getting 88. Summoning is a lot like prayer in that it lasts longer and you can get more points back from potions.

  9. Getting to 99 slayer while using cannon and piety will net you a profit. The amount typically depends on how lucky you get on drops and whether you do MTK and plant herbs. Doing MTK and herb runs will help cover the cost of cannonballs and potions.

  10. Boss monsters are typically only used for gaining money. They're aren't that great to train on for exp.

Slayer is easy to train and its decent exp. Its also decent gp, but not as great as you can get doing something else or at higher levels.

Armoured Zombies are great exp/hr and decent gp/hr.

There are more options but they cost gp to get great exp/hr and it doesn't seem like you want to spend it.

  11. That seems the best way.

    Experience Method:

This is pretty simple. Just fill your inventory with any shape, and enchant away. This is very fast exp. And make sure to deposit your orbs for those extra runes.

  12. People USE pure ess. Stuff that people use is not junk. Also, Fist of Guthix is a horrible way to train magic at higher levels I'm afraid.

Battle Robes are the most profitable thing from FoG though.

but pure ess is very easy to accumulate so i could use it right? or should i make it into runes first

Not to be a hater or anything, but you obviously don't know anything about junk.

Pure essense would not be considered junk as people trade it all the time. It can be used to make runes so people actually use it to make money. For you to use it as junk is stupid as you can easily sell it on its own. If you're worried about its low price, then hold on to it until it starts to rise back up, or as you stated use it.

Junk items are those that have a relatively high price on the GE, but no real use so no one sells/buys them on the GE so the price won't change. Items such as Addy Arrows (p++) are one of those common items. Items that are usually being merched are considered junk for a brief time.
