  1. Got my W-2 today.

Federal and State both filed... now just to wait for the IRS to start processing them on the 30th. >.> *twiddles thumbs*

Every year I tell myself I'm going to use the money for something "useful," but never do. Last year I bought a new TV and Xbox 360, year before that I bought a new computer, etc. This year I really am going to put it to good use and pay off my damn credit card and then cancel that crap and never get one again. Getting a credit card (or rather, abusing it) was one of the worst decisions I've made in my adult life and I'll be glad to put it behind me.

After I do that, and only after I do that, will I allow myself to use the rest of the money for something fun. Thing is... what should I do? D:

  2. Mere words cannot express how happy I am to hear everything worked out for you Maddy. You've worked far too hard to have everything ruined by an idiot. There's plenty of time for that once you enter the workforce. :P

Sums up my thoughts as well! :D I'm terribly happy everything was sorted out.

  3. Currently reading Through a Window: My Thirty Years with the Chimpanzees of Gombe by Jane Goodall.

Such an interesting book, I'm about halfway through it at this point. It's a follow-up to her book In the Shadow of Man, but Barnes & Noble didn't have a copy so I have to order it and couldn't wait to read this one.

  4. Nothing prepares you for the emotional burden of doing CPR. You'll find that, if it happens, something will take over and you will do what you've been trained to do. Because historically, people who are trained in CPR, almost always do if they're in a situation where it's needed. I know people that have done CPR two or three times and it's still something they find terrifying, which is a perfectly natural reaction to that situation, so I wouldn't reflect on that feeling too personally.

Yeah, I'm not scared in the sense that I don't think I'll do it... if I find myself in that situation, I'm pretty confident that I'll buck up and do the CPR. More scared in the sense of, "Oh crap this is happening for real and I have to do this." The instructor we have (it's the same one every time; this is my third time taking the class) is a local firefighter, and some of her stories are crazy. Like, two 15-year old kids were river-rafting and a man had fallen out of his boat and was in the water for something like 8 minutes before he drowned. Coincidentally, the two teens had been CPR-certified something like one or two days prior to the incident, and they revived the person by the time the firefighters even showed up.

I'm sure it's going to be stressful as all else, but it's kind of inspiring knowing I could possibly save someone like that at some point.

  5. Re-certified my CPR/AED training today for work.

Still scared shitless for the day when I might actually have to do CPR on someone. It's always so heartening when your instructor says, "You should hear a sound like shuffling a deck of cards [referring to the cracking sound when you break all the cartilage in their chest] but just remember, they're already dead and you can't make it any worse." >.>

  6. Is this some sort of special exam? Or is it this serious for every little exam/test you have at school..?

It might be a stretch, I don't know if they'd allow it or if it would even help, but see if you can have someone else (parent, etc.) sit in with you if they want to talk to you again. That way there is some sort of witness if they do something as ridiculous as ask you to change your side of the story...

I'm sorry, but what are we supposed to be looking at here? That looks like temps in the 40s the rest of the week.

The fact that it's been getting down to 19-25F every night and we're all freezing to death!

  8. -My Big Fat Greek Wedding (funny at all the time)

    Fix'd.

I love this movie. The "You don't eat no meat!?" (being a vegetarian myself) and "All my life I had a lump.... always a lump..." parts are my favorite parts of the movie!

I also really love Mafia, The Three Amigos and Dracula: Dead and Loving It.

  9. [spoiler=something depressing]Today I lost a friend. He was my neighbor. Someone put a hit on him.

There were two guys on a motorbike, no plate number and they used a silencer that's why people only heard "something hitting something metal" (his truck was shot several times).

The shooting happened just two houses down the road where he usually park his truck. After he got hit, he managed to walk several feet, presumably towards his home where his wife was. He collapsed near our front gate. He and his wife lived next door. 8 bullet casings were recovered at the scene but only one hit him. Sadly, the shot was fatal.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Broodmother. PM me if you need to talk! (I'll totally reply to your last PM when I have access to my comp.)

  10. I mean seriously, who gives a 25 year old a no-down-payment mortgage?

    'MERICA

It was quite some time later that he realized you said you lived in Canada.

  11. Try and find somewhere cheap enough that you can live there on your own? Living by myself is the best thing ever... except for when I almost burn my apartment down. :twss:

  12. Woke up this morning and noticed it was nice and toasty in my house. I thought that was pretty weird since I always turn my heater off before I go to bed. Walked over to the switch and noticed that I had indeed turned the heater off.

It was a burner on the kitchen stove I had left on overnight... on High.
