I haven't been spamming. I've already said I've addressed those same points in the past, and you keep re-posting them as if they're something new. Don't falsely accuse me, please. Congratulating yourselves on your post count in the rants forum isn't spam, right? You're making huge fools of yourselves.

Nowhere to be found. I disagree with what you say, but you have every right to say it. This thread has now reached 200 posts. Obviously I'm doing something right, or at least provoking some thought on this most magical of subjects. Logic and superior knowledge, eh?

This is a rant forum to post one's thoughts on something they believe is wrong. Please, take a closer look at the rules.

I'm sorry you feel my responses were inadequate. I feel they are adequate, and I feel I've addressed what's necessary. I have also "clearly" spent a lot of time in PvP, or I wouldn't be writing a comprehensive post on magic PvPs deficiencies.

Wrong. It's me posting a series of arguments and you responding to them. Yes, I'd call that a debate. And no, I'm not going to debate you further about the validity of my posts. This is a valid statement. I don't disagree with you. You're mentioning X, Y, and Z reasons you think I'm wrong, but the problem is I've already replied to X, Y, and Z reasons and I don't wish to do it again. You did get the part about, "I don't want to debate you!!!" correct, though. I believe I did say you're welcome to post here in my last reply, did I not? And it is advisable that you get off my thread, although I can't make you do it. This is of course, my opinion. Yes, yes, I know you can post anywhere on tip.it forums. And no, I never did have any intention of restricting your posting privileges by telling you I don't want to debate. I just don't want to debate - don't attach any invisible string to my posts, alright?

I'm not going to argue with you on the grounds that this is becoming a circular debate (Do you know what this is?) which is similar to a religious debate. Have you seen Richard Dawkins vs. "X" religious person? If you have, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. You can't argue with religious people, and I'm NOT going to argue with you. It's like you haven't read a single one of my responses AND counter responses to each and every post you've written here. This is my rant - I've said what I've had to say in my original post. People leave comments on the post. That's how it works. On my part, I've given you the privilege of discussing the validity of my points with me, yet I'm tired of speaking with you because our in-game experiences with magic differ so vastly, and for every component of magic you think is strong, I think it's weak. I've explained time and again the reasons behind my views, and you've explained yours. We're not making any headway. Enough is enough. If you think I HAVE TO sit here and debate with you, you're sadly mistaken. That is not a rule of this forum. As long as you stop flaming me and, in turn, stop bashing my posts, then everything will be fine. By all means, continue posting here. I'd advise you to stop resorting to personal attacks, though.

I covered defence, prayer, melee weapons, and armor. Pray tell what else? Thanks for responding to my post by the way, it's nice how you make such logical arguments. Not like you would have a clue about skill, or that it can be proved, but many players around these forms DO know that I spent a lot of time in PVP. I love your logic, too  . You haven't covered any of them, actually, but I guess that's your warped sense of things that's speaking. Thank you for responding to my post, nice to see such solid thought processes at work. ^ See what I did there? Personal attacks really aren't the way to go because I can do them too and they don't get you anywhere. You haven't made an inch of progress towards disproving me. As I said, I won't argue with you. We live in two very different worlds.

As usual, the other parts of my post are left untouched. I'm not arguing with you any further. By the way, I doubt you're as skilled as you really say you are, not that skill would even make a difference.
  10. I don't think you should have given it to him, but you're kind than I am, hehe. That's the reason I don't like to wear rares/phats - too many people ask to borrow. Every second of every day of every week of every month. It got so annoying at one point that I considered saying something that would have gotten me muted. And then I remembered the ignore list, :)

Use d'hide, get good defense, train magic for that lovely extra magic resistance, and use protect prayers. Simple. P.S. Or ambush them with dragon claws. LOLOL. P.P.S. Zammy godsword freeze, LOLOL.

I've explained many times why I don't think that the above is true. No point in arguing. My perspective: You're wrong, and you exaggerate the power of mages to the point where it has warped your view on magic so much as to blind you to ratio of mages/rangers/ and meleers in PvP worlds today, which in itself lends pressing evidence that the arguments in my original post are true. Your perspective: I'm wrong, and I exaggerate the weakness of mages to the point where it has warped my views on the supposed "stunning" underlying power of mages today. I will not concede. Magic is absolutely underpowered, it needs fixing in terms of its low damage, lack of specials, incapability to do over 30 damage using practical and efficient means, horrendously poor mitigation of melee damage, incapability to consistently freeze the enemy, and my only regret is that I can no longer make this post on the Runescape forums (because I haven't been a member in around a month and a half) so I could get an opinion directly from the game developers and mods themselves. Every time we argue, our arguments are circular and pointless. I would highly suggest you stop directing your posts at me because that will get you nowhere.

    I <3 you too compfreak, :).
  15. I rather like him. Take it easy, he sounds like a person who is genuinely knowledgeable and invested in Runescape, wants to see it and all its players have a great time, and is willing to take responsibility for his actions. He even apologized for a few mistakes Jagex has made in the past. Using a smiley doesn't detract from any of the above - cut the guy some slack.

I respectfully disagree with you, Compfreak. But you already know this, and it's fairly clear that you and I have vastly contrasting perspectives on in-game mechanics. Mages should be able to cast much much faster, hit harder, and have readily accessible attacks and specials to decimate melee in F2P and PvP, exactly the way rangers own mages. Our views, I'm afraid, will never be the same on this issue, so you really shouldn't bother addressing my posts, and I won't bother addressing yours. It seems our notions of logic are different. Nevertheless, I appreciate your colorful contributions to this thread.

I'd like to thank you guys for further helping me strengthen my thread. I'll add the arguments about the so called "ultra-mage shield" (I just love the practicality of PvPing with it, btw), and I'll also add the fact that training magic gives you magic defense (They must have had a little bit too much to drink when they implemented this, rofl) Keep up the great discussion, Elusefelier
  18. Compfreak847, I think you and I, at last, have found some common ground. Dragon claws are OP. :)

We'll see. Only time will tell, but I like their current direction with giving teleblock to F2P. Time will tell. P.S. I also like the fact that the censor is more loose now, too.

Excellent suggestions. Keep it up =) (Although I disagree with the part about having to do a grandmaster quest to get them.) P.S. Hooray, teleblock is now F2P!!! AND new Jagex CEO Mark vows to change game mechanics. Perhaps there is hope after all :).

People tend to read the last page and not bother with all the other replys. I would like to change a slight typo in your title, though - change the 'un' to 'over', any skill that gives you a 3-1 advantage against another fighter should be respected. As it stands, magic is fixed firmly atop the combat triangle :P ROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR! HOOOOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, we have a difference of opinion. It's become clear to me that you're not in support of my thread, but this is alright with me. Although, I also think you should realize that I do plan to press on with this thread, and expand it, and add suggestions as to how magic can be improved. I'll try to keep this thread alive to the best of my ability, and if you change your opinion and decide to suggest something that can potentially benefit magic, then that'd be alright for me to. For now though, I think it's time we give it a rest to dissecting each other's arguments because of the fundamental differences in opinion we have. Elusefelier.

What? Trapped for 10 seconds is a big deal when you can immedatly freeze within 2 seconds of them being unfrozen. I can cast for 10 seconds, then run for 2, turn around, and barrage you again without ever being touched. I didn't see how many hours you use it in PVP, nor what your levels are. Since you were so insistant, I tested it. For the record, protect from anythning reduces damage\effeects by 40%, not 50%. Another 'mistake' on your part. So I went to clan wars with my stopwatch, and the end results were this: Without protect from magic, 20 seconds. With protect from magic, 12 seconds. Any other questions? As for the whole class argument, I can maintain this: A pure mager will beat a pure meleer. Armor is just as much a part of a class as weapons; magic and range have the ADVANTAGE of having armors with large bonuses so that they can effectively fight in several different ways. Switching to range armor is just as much 'class switching' as switching to a whip; but in the case of range armor, the 'meleer' still has a HUGE deficiency from the earlier spells and lower defence - this is the reason the mage has the advantage. Interesting and informative. I'm glad you cleared this up for me. So we've established that with their magic prayer activated, you can freeze them for 12 seconds, and then you wait 2 seconds, and refreeze. The problem always lies with how you get the K0 though, and in today's PvP, people are going to be near banks and safe areas they can run to in case a mage does show up. I still insist that mage has a very good chance to be killed, albeit not all the time, by a meleer because of the absurd hits they can dish out, and the high chance for splashes to occur using a cheap and inexpensive armor, Black D'Hide. Magic has become a support class which relies on the big hits of Ranged and Melee to get kills. In today's PvP, you may be content with the fact that it has become that, but I'm not. There are areas in which magic could use improvement in terms of both its armor and damage potential. You and I have been going at this for quite some time now, and I believe neither of us have an intention of stopping. So, let me ask another question. Do you believe magic is fine the way it is? Would you be okay with giving it a spec, a cheaper staff which does slow melee's damage potential a bit, or some better armor that can absorb the damage Mages have to deal with on a daily basis better? I'm not looking for radical godlike ninja power, just improvements. Look forward to your response :)
