[hide=Guide with fixed pictures] Introduction Hi, I'm Animal Magik and welcome to my Fletching guide. First of all, this is my first guide, so if it's pretty slack, go easy on me. =P I achieved 99 fletching on the 24th September, 2008. I was the 49,018th person to reach it, and currently, approximately 58,000 people have 99. There are many methods currently available to reach 99, which will be explained in this guide, as well as exp rates and the do's and don'ts of fletching. The Tools and Basics of Fletching In fletching, your skill is used to make many tools for rangers, such as arrows, bolts, crossbows, darts (requires completion of "The Tourist Trap"), etc. Tools - Knife: - Used for fletching unfinished bows (need logs of the bow you are making and the required fletching level, to finish these bows, you will need a bow string, obtained either by buying or spinning flax on a spinning wheel, 10 crafting required), crossbow stocks and arrow shafts, which you can attach feathers to to make headless arrows and then arrow heads to finish making the arrows. Making these requires one feather for each arrow shaft you have, one arrowhead for each shaft you have (bought or made with the required smithing level) and of course, the required fletching level. Logs: - Logs are a main resource for fletching, used in making unfinished arrows, bows and crossbows. Different types of logs make different types of bows and crossbows when used with a knife. Metal Bars: - Another main resource for fletching, used for completing arrows, crossbows, bolts which can be finished by using feathers and (optional) bolt tips with them and making unfinished darts, which can be finished by using feathers with them (again, completion of "The Tourist Trap" required). Levelling As I mentioned above, there are many ways of training fletching. These are the best ways I have found to level. (If you know of better ways, please pm me and I will try them out then mention them in the guide.) Levels 1-5: Arrow shafts Number required for level 5: 1,170 (78 logs) Exp per hour: 8,100 Time taken to reach level 5: 3 minutes Exp when done: 380 (Note: This is only if you haven't done any other fletching before) Where to cut your logs: This a part of the map from around Draynor. The red circle is where I think the best spot to cut your logs is. However, if you have low combat (under 30) you will keep getting attacked by the jail guards, so I have circled two other areas. The yellow circle is an area with a nice number of trees, however once you have chopped them all you might have to wait for a little bit for the trees to grow back. Lastly, the blue area is a spot with a large number of trees, however this is only if you don't mind walking that far to get to them and back. First, bank everything in your inventory, then go cut all the logs you need. Then go back to the bank, withdraw your knife, and 27 logs and start cutting. I picked the Draynor area to show you as it is a good spot to start off, unless you buy all your logs. If so, I recommend fletching at the Grand Exchange or one of the banks in Varrock. Starting off is really simple, all you have to do is go chop down 78 normal trees (cheap way) or buy 78 normal logs (costing approx. 2,340 gp). Then, use your knife on the logs and select arrow shafts. Once you have turned your 78 logs into 1,170 arrow shafts, you should have 5 fletching, and you'll be ready to move on. Levels 5-10: Shortbows (u) Number required for level 10: 153 Exp per hour: 9,720 Time taken to reach level 10: 4 minutes Exp when done: 1,155 Now it's another easy step, this time go chop 153 normal logs (or buy if you want, they're cheap) and use your knife on them again. Make them all into shortbows, it'll take about 4 minutes including banking times, then you can move on again. Isn't that great? =D Levels 10-20: Longbows (u) Number required for level 20: 332 Exp per hour: 19,440 Time taken to reach level 20: 6 minutes Exp when done: 4,475 One of the last really easy steps. Once more, go chop 332 logs, or buy them, then make them all into longbows. Then you'll have 20 fletching, and you'll be finished with normal bows! You might be wondering what to do with all these unstrung bows, too. Well, no, you don't sell them on the ge. They don't sell, because no one wants them (shock horror =O). You don't try and sell them to other players (no one wants them...). You don't drop them, that would just be a waste! Sell them to a general store! Go to a bank, note them, then find yourself a general store and sell them. It's smaller profit then what it would be IF you could sell them on the ge. But you can't, so it'll have to do. Next up, you're moving on to oaks. You might prefer to buy them at this stage, but if you don't have the money, don't fret about it, they don't take that long to cut. Levels 20-25: Oak Shortbows (u) Number required for level 25: 205 Exp per hour: 33,412 Time taken to reach level 25: 6 minutes Exp when done: 7857(.5) It's still the same deal as before. Cut or buy 205 oak logs, fletch into unstrung short bows, you'll get 25 fletching, and sell the bows to a general store later on. Simple! Moving on. =D Levels 25-35: Oak Longbows (u) Number required for level 35: 582 Exp per hour: 48,600 Time taken to reach level 35: 15-20 minutes Exp when done: 22,407(.5) Once again, easy. Just cut/buy then cut. Then you'll have 35 fletching, and you'll be ready to move onto the cheapies - willows. At just 19 each on the ge for max, you won't have to pay much to buy these logs for the next section of your journey. By this stage the number you'll have to fletch will just keep rising, so unless you're either broke or an avid woodcutter, I'd buy the logs. Levels 35-40: Willow Shortbows (u) Number required for level 40: 446 Exp per hour: 64,638 Time taken to reach level 40: 14 minutes Exp when done: 37,237 Same deal as all the previous steps, buy/cut logs, cut into unstrung bows until you've levelled to 40. Buying > cutting at this stage. If you get low on cash and would rather not cut some trees, don't forget to sell your unstrung bows to the general store. Levels 40-50: Willow Longbows (u) Number required for level 50: 1,545 Exp per hour: 80,676 Time taken to reach level 50: 47 minutes Exp when done: 101,354(.5) Once more, repeat what you've already done. Get the logs however you'd like, then cut them into longbows (u). Also, congratulations! By now you should definitely be ranked in the highscores for fletching. It's a good achievment getting a skill ranked. Good job fletching this far. Now it's time to move onto maples. =D At this stage, many more options open up for you to train your fletching with. You can just continue with the conventional bows if you'd like, or, at level 54, a new way to train becomes available that is considered almost the fastest exp you can get - if you don't mind losing a bit of money, that is. =P Also, at level 50 you will be fletching maple bows. With these being more then double the price than willows, if you are a bit struck for cash, then you might have to think of some ways to make money or view a gudie on that, because it'll take a faiiir while to cut the amount of maples needed, especially since you'll most likely be doing them to level 70, unless of course you have a fair bit of money to burn. Also, don't forget to sell your unstrungs before moving on! Option 1 - The money spending way Levels 50-54: Maple Shortbows (u) Number required for level 54: 991 Exp per hour: 97,200 Time taken to reach level 54: 30 minutes Exp when done: 150,904(.5) Just keep doing what you were doing before, but don't worry about everything just repeating itself over and over again - if you chose this option, you get to do something different now. =D Levels 54-60 OR levels 54-99: Mithril Bolts Number required for level 60: 24,568 Number required for level 99: 2,576,706 Exp per hour: A whopping 240k an hour Time taken to reach level 60: 6 minutes Time taken to reach level 99: 54 hours Money lost reaching level 60 (buying supplies for mid and selling finished bolts for mid): 491,360 Money lost reaching level 99 (buying supplies for mid and selling finished bolts for mid): 5,207,412 Exp when done (60): 273,744(.5) Ok, now you get to do something different. The method for this is fairly simple. First buy 10k feathers and 10k mith bolts (unf) on the ge for medium price. If they don't buy instantly you'll either have to be patient, or try buying for max. Then put them in your inventory next to each other. Then click the bolts, then the feathers (or vice versa, however you want) until you have attached feathers to all the bolts. Also, mith bolts (unf) don't buy for med a lot of the time, and sometimes even not for max =/. But if they do buy for max for you, then you'll lose a little more. Finished mith bolts however almost always sell for med, so the loss won't be that much greater. Mith bolts (unf) are only 4 gp dearer on max than med, so just multiply the money loss by 4. Please note this method also works with addy bolts (61 fletching required), however the losses would be far greater. Levels 60-70 OR levels 60-99: Adamant Arrows Number required for level 70: 46,389 Number required for level 99: 1,276,069 Exp per hour: Amazing 480k an hour Time taken to reach level 70: 58 minutes Time taken to reach level 99: 27 hours Money lost reaching level 70 (buying supplies for mid and selling finished bolts for mid): 1,113,336 Money lost reaching level 99 (buying supplies for mid and selling finished bolts for mid): 30,625,626 Exp when done (70): 737,634(.5) Addy arrows are just like mith bolts. Only more exspensive. And a much bigger money waster. And twice the exp per hour. If you have the cash to do this then... I envy you! No that's not what I was gonna say =P. I was gonna say, just buy more supplies, headless arrows and addy arrowtips, (same amount as each other) and use them on each other and click make 10 sets, and continue this till finished. These are a massive money waster but when I tested it out, they bought and sold instantly on med. Levels 70-85 OR levels 70-99: Yew longbows Number required for level 85: 16,807 Number required for level 99: 81,979 Exp per hour (cutting): 145k Exp per hour (stringing): 150k Time taken to reach level 85: 17 hours Time taken to reach level 99: 82 hours Profit from reaching level 85 (buying supplies for mid, selling bows for mid): Break even Profit from reaching level 99 (buying supplies for mid, selling bows for mid): Break even Exp when done (85): 3,258,684(.5) A lot of people have common misconceptions about fletching yew longs. It seems to be that everyone thinks you lose money on them. Well, you don't. In fact, you profit from them. The method is simple. It's like making those unstrung bows you made earlier, only this time, you buy the logs for mid, but also buy some bow strings for mid as well. Cut all your logs into longbows (u) first, then withdraw 14 bows and 14 bow strings. Use a bow string on a bow and click string all. When you're done, put them on the ge for max. If they don't sell instantly, don't bother waiting. Take them out and put them on for mid. Again, if they don't sell instantly, take them out. Now hop to world 2 and just say "Selling yew longs" and you should manage to find a buyer fairly quickly. Buying price on med for yew logs: 470 ea Buying price on med for bow strings: 190 ea Selling price on med for yew longbows: 660 ea So by this, you can see yew longbows break even at the time that I recorded this data. (18 Jan 2008) Yew longbows fell 7gp the previous day, and are most likely to rise again soon, which will bring back a profit for fletching them. Levels 85-99: Magic Longbows Number required for level 99: 53,420 Exp per hour (cutting): 178k Exp per hour (stringing): 183k Time taken to reach level 99: 54 hours Money lost from reaching level 99 (buying and selling items for mid): 3,846,240 Buying price on med for magic logs: 1,311 Buying price on mid for bow strings: 190 ea Selling price on mid for magic longbows: 1,429 ea If you're doing this step, then congratulations. You're on the home stretch. Just don't give up, keep buying those supplies for mid and selling the finished bows for max or mid, then keep going until you're done. Option 2- cost effective way Levels 50-55: Maple shortbows (u) Number required for level 55: 1,306 Exp per hour: 80,676 Time taken to reach level 55: 48 minutes Exp when done:166,654(.5) Just keep going, cutting those maples all the way =D. Don't forget to sell your unstrungs every now and then, and don't give up on your goal! If you get bored or annoyed with it take a little break or something then come back in an hour or so and start fletching again. Levels 55-70: Maple longbows (u) Number required for level 70: 9,803 Exp per hour: 113k Time taken to reach level 70: 5 hours Exp when done: 737,679(.25) This is a long stretch. Just keep cutting those bows, don't give up on it because of the length, and remember to takes breaks every now and then and also if you get bored or frustrated. Levels 70-99: Yew longsbows Number required for level 99: Exp per hour (cutting): Exp per hour (stringing): Time taken to reach level 99: Congratulations, you're on the final step towards getting 99 fletching. Just buy as many yew logs and just as many bow strings as you can, and keep it up. It's not hard to get 99, just keep at it, keep concentrating and don't give up. Remember to take regular breaks, and just keep telling yourself it'll be worth it when you get that great, shiny cape! Steel bolts (unf) mid buying price - 42 ea Feathers mid buying price - 6 ea Steel bolts mid selling price - 51 ea They also give 2.4 exp ea, netting you a fairly nice 24k exp for every 10k you make, at a rate of 110-115k exp an hour, and approx. 70k cash an hour (not test - will test soon). Thank you for reading my fletching guide, I hope it helps you level your fletching to whatever you would like it to be. -About Me [hide=RuneScape Stuff]-I started playing RuneScape in August of 03. Which, if you look at my stats, is pretty pathetic -I got 99 WoodCutting on August 15th, 2008. It's currently my only 99 -I also have a Quest cape -I'm currently going for 3 99s. Hoping to get them over the summer.[/hide] -Goals [hide=99 Trifecta]So I decided to kick off this summer with a goal of 3 99s. But Trifecta sounds cooler, so yeah. Fishing, firemaking, and hunter are the three I'm going for. My WoodCutting cape's kinda lonely. : [/hide][hide=Other Goals]I accomplished my goal of getting 60+ in every stat before this blog, so I won't include that. But here's my goal for 1900 total. Got a bit to go. And also my goal for being in the top 50,000 RS players. [/hide] -Pictures [hide=Level-Ups]Blog's new, so I don't have any yet. Check in later. ;)[/hide][hide=Drops][/hide][hide=Clues][/hide]

Life would be great without religion. Think about it, how much of the world's history has some link to religion or holy wars? Basically all of it, right? If we didn't have it, a great deal of the world's problems wouldn't exist. Of course, religion is natural. But if it didn't exist, things would be a lot better. Although I suppose a great deal of advancements and such wouldn't have existed either, so life would really be simple. But going back to that, with all the simplicity the world would have had, there'd be even less of us humans to mess the world up even more. So it would all end up having a bright side anyway,

We're born, we live, and then we die. That's about it.
