  1. @WolfieMario:

I agree with your overall message and happy that you explained it all. I posted my comment to get an explanation of your previous post... well, ya gave one.

Also, what happened to the other bot thread about the lvl 130+ guy?

  2. Well, I got bored and decided I wanted to investigate a little bit into RS botting. I used some stuff to protect my internet and computer while searching sites that offer RS bots (yep, I am scared of something downloading itself by me being there).

Anyway, what I found out is how quick and easy it is for anyone playing RS to get a bot program. Now, obviously we all know it must be considering how many bots we suspect are on RS at a time. Of the sites I found, one actually had a tracker of all the accounts using their bot at any given time. The total was about 1500. But I digress.

My question is with the ease of access and the blatant "Here I am! Download me!" attitude of botting sites, how is it they are up and running, some now for several years? I believe Jagex does what it can, but if they know people are using a bot, Im sure they could link it back to these sites and get them shut down, or at least buy out domain names to keep sites from being name related to Runescape.

I assume also that Jagex has a minimum level of bots they accept within the game considering we all know they are there and cannot possibly expel them all, but they could at least get the ones I looked at. A simple Google search gave me pages upon pages of actually relevant information about bots and how to get them.

Does Jagex need a bigger legal team? Or is it that it really just takes that much time to deal with the legal process.

I remember once that Jagex put up news they had shut down many sites and threw down the ban hammer on 100s, maybe 1000s, of players for using them, but that was several years ago. So, what is taking so long?

BTW, I do not condone, endorse, or use bots.

  3. Overall though, I dont think Jagex wants everyone running around with 1400 lifepoints.

1400 lp today is comparable to what 1000 lp was 2 years ago (aside from it being 99 2 years ago)

lets face it a whip and 15% str vs rapier turmoil and claws, your definately looking at about 1.4x more dmg/ko potential

I understand it is comparable and worthwhile for some people to have it, but as I stated, "everyone". I doubt Jagex wants more than 20% (overestimate in my mind) to be have the stuff.

  4. Good post and thoughts, but I just dont think that Jagex can bring themselves to have such a frequent drop table for such items. I think with more updates in 2011, we may see more items that will make Nex something that more people do.

Also, as previous poster said, there just isnt a sufficient number of players who can consistently and affordably kill Nex.

Overall though, I dont think Jagex wants everyone running around with 1400 lifepoints.

  5. I honestly believe there is a formula that gives them the exp for each level. It probably looks like a exponential graph and on the X-axis there are the levels 1-99 (and 120 in dung case), then the Y-axis is experience.

Plug in formula based on exponentially increasing experience between levels and BOOM! Exp levels set.

I havent ever typed in the data, but Im fairly positive that is what would happen.

They probably did some research on how other RPGs set lvls and based a formula off of it.

    Click

    Cool theory.

Thank you. Good link because I would have had a load of trouble expressing such equations on the message board.

Also, at xxshady: Combat is the heart and soul of RS. Check out my theory on this thread. Gonna have to scroll down a bit.

  7. Not RWT.

You are wagering a bet using RS cash. The fact that you are not exchanging any other items in real life makes it okay. Its a poker game. The only real trouble you could get in is having an illegal gambling game being played (trust me home poker games are illegal in most states, but no cop is going to bust you for it)

It is the same as when my buddies and I made a bet on when Jagex would release free trade following the referendum. 1 Mil from each person in a pool of 6. The bet was made on a Real World event (release of free trade/poker game) but the earnings are purely RS gold. There is not Real World transaction occurring.

  8. <------ Thinks another Bonus XP weekend will come within the next 3 months. Will also keep a note on this thread to bring it back when it is announced.

Those are my secret thoughts, oops.

Anyway, I enjoy Bonus XP weekends because I do not always have time to train certain skills that I want to, and the weekends (of which I actually have time to play RS) offer a time to "catch up" on training.

Also, when it happens, lvl 80 Agility, here I come. I am too poor to afford anything else anymore.

  9. I honestly believe that RS was created under the impression that combat was the main goal. Therefore all the other skills were built around it, and have continued to be done so, with a few indirect exceptions.

Attack, Defense, Strength, Hitpoints, Magic, Ranged, and Prayer are the original combat stats. These make up the ways in which one can engage in combat. Summoning of course added later as another boost.

In combat you need items to fight and food to eat, so in order to make armour, weapons, food, etc, the skills of Smithing (armour), Crafting (ranged armour and enchanted jewelry), Fletching (bows and arrows), and Cooking are made to provide players with these items (Of course better items acquired only by monster drops added later).

In order to make these finished items however, one needs other skills in order to obtain raw materials. Hence the invention of Mining (for ores to smelt and smith), Woodcutting (for logs to fletch), and Firemaking (to cook food when a range is not around).

-------So far we have covered all of the original stats in the game of Runescape, plus Fletching and Summoning. However, including Fletching and Summoning in total count but lets say they are not combat, combat stats still make up 7 of 15 stats. Just under 50% of the game, and if including Summoning, just over 50% of the game. However, in terms of aiding combat or centered around combat, the percentage is 100.

Then the creation of members and members skills.

Original members skills: Herblore, Agility, and Thieving (with Fletching, but its been covered).

Of these, Herblore and Agility are highly focused in allowing combat to become easier and quicker. Herblore boosts combat skills almost solely in its original creation. Agility helps gain access to areas quicker, especially in dungeons (for fighting). I am at a loss as to how Thieving helps combat, but like I said, there are a few exceptions.

---------So after the original member skills, we have one that does not aid combat or is not focused on it. 1 of 18. In terms of percentage geared towards combat, thats 94.4%. It is obvious then that combat is the main goal here and therefore the skills directly linked to combat can be called "primary" skills.

If we look at skills that aid combat indirectly (which is everything so far but Thieving), then they can be labeled as "secondary" skills. Everything else (including Thieving) can be called a "tertiary" skill. Tertiary skills either can be non-related or related to combat through the relation to a secondary skill, or combat itself (in the case of Slayer).

    These skills are:

Famring - Indirectly related to combat through Herblore

Runecrafting - directly related to combat by way of runes for magic

Hunter - no relation to combat I can recall

Construction - weakly related to combat as one can display combat achievements within the house, but will not count for the purposes of this analysis because goal of skill is building home, not combat

Dungeoneering - related to all skills, with a heavy focus on combat

    GRAND TOTAL:

22 skills involved or related (directly/indirectly) with combat

    3 skills outside of combat

Percentage: 88% of Runescape geared towards combat, 12% not.

Therefore, if you are not involved in combat in some way, the question is: Why are you playing the game? If you want to hang out with friends, use skills outside of combat, or just make some online money, thats cool. However, the truth is and always will be that Runescape is a combat game and honestly, should not deviate from such a course.

Also, when looking at a player, what do you see first? Combat level. It is the prestige marker of the game. It is how you know who is who, who can do what, and where you stand in the world of Runescape.

  10. Would you give $10,000 to someone who isnt paying you a cent?

Why shouldnt it be leaning towards members? We make the business run that F2P gets to use.

Here's a question for ya: If you ran a raffle and said everyone gets one free ticket just for signing up, but you can purchase more tickets if you wish, who would have a better chance to win? The people who bought more tickets or the person who entered their sole free ticket?

Dumb question. Obvious answer. Discussion over.

  11. I dont understand why you would feel like a troll, our discussion is extremely relevant to the original post. Troll = "Only in America" sentiments.

Either way, I just cannot comprehend how anyone could laugh or say "she had it coming". That is just terrible. I could not fathom doing something so sinister to a child.

  12. I understand and endorse personal responsibility, but no matter the "problems" a kid is facing at that age, they are not at fault for being manipulated into sexual relations with an adult. Growing up, i knew kids in class having sex at 13/14, but with other 13-15 year olds. That is normal, not 13 and 54. The party responsible is the adult. Period. The girl may have some problems, but taking advantage of those and taking advantage of a child is just wrong.

  13. Haha! How stupid are these people? It is their own fault that they were raped or w/e.

I hope youre not talking about the 13-year-old girl. The only person at fault is the 54-year-old man preying on a child.

I think the parents were just unknowing, but I dont think they share much of the fault. Apparently she wasnt supposed to have a cell phone at that age. I say fair parenting to that. Unfortunately, kids are sneaky (I know I was). I dont know how this kid got out of the house to meet this perv though. That is where the parents failed.

No 13-year-old can be held responsible for being sexually assaulted. That was a terrible comment Vezon.

Also, in America, child sexual abuse is nowhere near as rampant as South Eastern Asia.

  14. It is an effect seen in all areas, not just RS bringing back Free Trade. The luring and scamming will be very prominent for awhile and then settle down. It is the same when a company such as Google goes public on the stock market, it goes to ridiculous heights and then begins to level off somewhere.

I dont know where the scamming will level off, but I will predict you will not be noticing it for as long as you think.
