The Hegemony (12th Feb = 2018, Part 2)
What the heck? I think that's an example of over moderation. <_< Especially since you also control the Confederation!

Yep. Why am I the only one who is willing to be multi-cultural? Actually, Turkey seems to be rather multi-cultural too. :P

Well you're going ahead with the Anglo-Saxon pride thing. :)

Win! That's three! Umbra, Jen, and Kemios. I'll finish something on Jen before I send her to help Kemios with that golem.

I'll be back in 10 minutes, so you could count me as number two. (I think I am playing as Kemios)

As for exchange rates and stuff, I've been keeping track of everything in USD, using Doom's system of 1% of GDP. So basically I keep track of GDP in dollars, and my surplus in dollars, so I don't have to worry about currency fluctuations and the like, because it's just a really big pain. Don't you think that would be easier? Japan, the most multi cultural country in the world...That is...wierd.

Sorry I didn't respond to your posts. Went to sleep early like usual! :P --- Anyways, I'll try to remember everything I read, but if I miss something, then don't blame me. 1. South Africa as a country doesn't need aid, but the fact is that South Africa has massive social inequality, sorta like Brazil before it fixed itself up through the righteous reign of the Doom. 2. Japanese aid workers quickly rush into the region immediately after the typhoon hits, thanking all international aid that has gone into Indonesia. Several aircraft carriers are being used to drop supplies into Indonesia (yay, finally a good use for a military object!) 3. Ross was supposed to get all of Guinea, which is the entire island (somehow he only got half). The total real life population was 15 million, and that was before I moved in millions of people as part of my construction project. The majority of the population is concentrated in the southern part of the island. The other parts are primarily rich rainforests, which have a diversity of wildlife. 4. The Japanese emporer goes and talks with the protestors, with no visible bodyguards (but they're there). This show of courage is supposed to prove that the Japanese emporer is willing to meet with the people, because they are his people. (Note that he still sits on a level higher than the protestors, for obvious reasons. He's the emporer after all!) 5. Japanese agriculture companies begun subsidizing their Indonesian counterparts to produce produce produce! This is to model them after the Japanese industry, which has some of the highest crop yields in the world, despite the small amount of arable land. Japan asks the United States/Britain to inspect cows more carefully before they are killed. If this is ensured, Japan lifts its ban on beef from the United States. Japan runs advertisements in the SR extolling algae-fuels cost-effectiveness and carbon-neutrality. "The same as fuel cells...for a better price!"

Hehe. :P The Japanese military was never in South Africa... <_< ------- Wait, it's 1 day = 1 year now? It seems that we've been going faster.

Japan leaves South Africa, determined to expand the home islands to their maximum development.

Yay. Jen returns to her home, and attempts to melt the bear trap off slowly with some warmish water. If she succeeds, then she tries to heal her hand. (Where is the golem? I want to come!)
-

Jen attempts to create five bear traps several feet from her. If she succeeds, then she places them in the forest, then activates them by using ice magic from afar. (Making sure she doesn't get her hand clamped)

Repost Jen goes to the Ivory tower and asks if it has any books that she could borrow, so that she could read them. She offers them the book she has, since she's already learned all she can from the book. "I know that I can't train here, but could you loan some books so I could learn more about the arcane arts of ice magic?" New post If Jen gets anything, then she goes back home and reads it.

Japan lands back in South Africa again, with their billions of aid. The tent cities are rebuilt and more funding goes in for permanent housing. Daily radio broadcasts are mandatory, for safety updates and announcements. They also include little snippets of pro-Japanese advertisements and remind the South Africans that Japan is out to help them. (Gotta get something back in return for Indonesia, so this is not just a continuation of my imperialist policies. I'm simply trying to get back what I had. This is my last annexation, and I hope everyone stays out of it)

How about this: 1% of GDP for random building stuff, and the maintainance thing is part of your original budget, the other 99% of GDP. It's really annoying to keep track of maintainace as part of your surplus, since logically the maintainance is already taking a toll on your budget before the 1% of GDP. Japan has completed the development of the Type 10 tank, a fourth generation main battle tank, the first of its kind. (It was already in development beforehand before the game began)

Well it's quite simple. Worker wages come back to the government in taxation. Raw Materials are extracted by Japanese companies in South-East Asia, with their wages going back to the government. The only price there would be would be if we came to a raw material which is required to build the machines to get the raw materials out. The second thing is true, but if the 5 yen was worth 5 normal yen, then it went up in price, and you printed 50 billion yen to make each yen worth the same as before, then you still have 50 billion normal yen. The savings of the people, let's say it is one yen, is still worth just as much as it was before and can buy the exact same goods as it could before. It's just that the government has 50 billion Yen. I was just bringing America as an example since I live there and I know plenty about it, considering I like bashing the presidents. :P ------- That reminds me. If we implement your system, then Dusty won't be able to sell his industrial capacity well. :P
-
The Hegemony (12th Feb = 2018, Part 2)
No, that's not what I meant. I meant the worth of the currency goes up. For example, the Yen is naturally around 100 Yen per dollar. If say, it moves to 80 Yen per dollar, then you print more currency to get it back to the old value. Then everything ends up at the same price again, and exports do not suffer because goods are too expensive. That's what real world governments do. America just never has to do it because it has a mainly inflationary trend, which is when the government tries buying back currency. Also, thirty billion is only a fraction of my surplus (according to the 1% rule), so what do I do? Of course building my ships are almost free in your system because the company...is owned by me! Huzzah!
-
The Hegemony (12th Feb = 2018, Part 2)
Well there's a problem when a currency's price goes up too much, as when it goes down. So when the price of the currency goes up, you print more money so that the individual piece of currency is worth the same as before, but you just have more currency. Then the people in savings still have the same amount of money, and their money is still worth the same, because you printed money to return the currency to the existing level. Currency naturally goes up if supply stays level and demand goes up due to economic growth. So the amount of currency naturally expands over time. Or we could ignore these obscure economic concepts and go with 1% or 4% of GDP.

The Hegemony (12th Feb = 2018, Part 2)
You can just simply print out more money, if you have a healthy growing economy. For example, Japan was suffering deflation for a while, so I just printed a few billion more Yen to fix it. As long as your economy keeps growing, more money should be printed to sustain that. Or else there will be larger companies beating each other up for a smaller pie. The problem with gold is that some countries naturally start with more gold, like the United States, because they need to keep their currency really stable. However, countries like Japan don't need to rely on gold because their currency is designed to float more, and they are more export based. That's basically my only problem with gold standard, since you can only really trade up to 30 billion internationally.
