1. I'd personally recommend Torstol over Fellstalk, since the miniscule xp difference (1-2k xp/run or so?) doesn't make up for the fact that Torstol are almost two times as profitable as Fellstalk.
2. The fastest tree/fruit tree/calquat run can be found under "Farming Runs" on this guide: http://forum.tip.it/topic/242787-mother-gaia-an-in-depth-manual-to-farming/ It's a little bit outdated, so add a Tai Bwo teleport scroll for faster access to the Calquat and an equiped Witchdoctor mask/Juju teleportbag (the mask obviously being superior) for the fruit tree patch in the Herblore Habitat. You will probably experience that your fruit trees go out of sync with your trees, since logging resets the current farming tick and fruit trees have longer ticks than normal trees, so you'll want to reduce the frequency of your logging to ensure an easier and faster run. Have fun!
3. These are the things that I find aren't too painfully slow or mind-numbing in f2p: Cooking: Light a fire basically anywhere close to a bank (I got 99 by doing this in Fist of Guthix) and cook lobsters/swordfish. Crafting: Cut sapphires/emeralds/rubies for 200k-300k xp/h in Crafting. This method is quite expensive though. Firemaking: Light fires in Fist of Guthix Play GoP for tokens for RC tabs for when you buy members again. If you're planning on bursting or barraging when you buy members, play Fist of Guthix for some tokens for the Battle Robe recharge. If you need money, you could do some f2p merchanting.
4. I'm looking to get 99 magic by bursting/barraging rock lobsters (currently lvl 90), and I have a few questions: 1. Should I bother using a Vecna skull to boost to 94 mage for ice barrage, or should I use ice burst until then? Or is shadow barrage until 94 a better alternative? 2. What's the approximate xp/h and gp/xp at the 7 lobster spot vs. the 9 lobster spot using ice burst/barrage? 3. How far do I get summoning xp-wise by doing this for 99 mage? (Currently 78 summ) 4. Should I use an SGS or an EE? (not the EEE, mind you) Thanks!
5. With the Trollheim graphical update, the route to the herb patch changed quite drastically. This is the fastest route: From the teleport spot, you go south, then west to the cliffside shortcut. From there you go west, down the little ramp and then down the cliffside shortcut. Then you go slightly west and straight north to the cave entrance. Once you're inside the cave, it's as it has always been.
6. I found this in the "Potion rewards" section, under juju farming pots: Do you mean growing payment crops for the ugune while hunting? If so, this is wrong. Since a blue blossom is a requirement for igneous jadinkos, you can easily farm payment crops while hunting.
7. Unless you want to knitpick about saving 3 seconds max with the duel ring -> glider method, they are not worth using, certainly not worth editing your guide for. I did the tests you requested, and added a third method - my own. Instead of running back inside the maze, I tele to MA again and to directly to the stronghold from there. These are the times: a) Village fruit tree patch -> glider -> stronghold -> stronghold spirit tree: 45 seconds b) Village fruit tree patch -> village spirit tree -> stronghold spirit tree: 30 seconds c) Village fruit tree patch -> MA tele -> stronghold spirit tree: 15 seconds I forgot to mention that these times naturally don't include actually harvesting and planting the patch, only the travel times between the patches. As you can quite clearly see, my method is superior ([/brag]). Also, my bush run record is 1:50 now (checking health, harvesting and replanting all 4 bushes) :D
8. As you might be aware of, after Prisoner of Glouphrie, there is a gnome glider right by the tree gnome village fruit tree patch. Many seem to believe that this is faster than duel ring to MA, spirit tree to inside the maze and then elkoy. Therefore, I decided to do some mythbusting, and these are the times for my tests. Note that I tested on a slightly slow connection using a mousepad on my laptop, so you can definitely do much faster than this. Results: Duel ring to duel arena and running to the glider (spent a few extra seconds on finding the glider guy in the stronghold): 32 seconds Glory to Al Kharid and running to glider: 40+ seconds Duel ring to MA and spirit tree to the village: 33 seconds So these tests don't revolutionize anything, but may be worthwhile noting, none the less.
9. I suggest you start doing herb runs as much as you can. Toadflax seeds cost around 1,3k, while the herbs are 3,8k, so with around 7 herbs per patch, you will easily get 25k+ profit per patch. Do this every 1,5 hours, and your bank will grow quickly. As your farming level and cash pile grows, you can switch to more profitable herbs like snaps and torstols, and gain some really easy money. Also, don't stake your entire bank :P
10. There's now a faster way to reach the calquat patch. Using a Tai Bwo teleport scroll (buyable on the GE for around 1k each) you teleport right to the patch, saving you loads of time. Also, after the Prisoner of Glouphrie quest, you can have 2 spirit trees. That way you can have one in Brimhaven and one on Misc, making both tree and bush runs faster. I'll post my bush run time when my spirit tree grows (my record is currently 2:25 :D) I'm quite curious on how you managed that insane herb run record. Were you on lunars, did you do both flowers and herbs and when did you start the time? I can't manage to push my time under 5:20 on normal mage, so I am amazed by that record of yours.
11. This week's progress: Bank: +6.2m since last week Fishing: 2223 rocktails caught 845k fishing xp gained Approx. 18 000 rocktails left to catch for 99 Farming: 432k farming xp gained Today's achievements Will also get 91 farming later today.
12. Here are some minor updates I have thought of while playing. Nothing revolutionary, but it would still make things easier. 1. The current compass allows you to face north with a left-click. I suggest adding a right-click option to face the compass to south, east or west as well. 2. The tool leprechaun should also be able to hold vials of heal disease 3. The inspect option on farming patches should also tell you how many percent the crop is grown. When it is halfway, for example, the inspect option shows "This plant is at 50% of full growth" I will add some more ideas when I remember them.
13. Today's achievements: Fishing got a lot more fun and a lot easier with rocktails. I'm averaging 40k xp/h and the profit is significantly better than monks.
14. Kinda forgot about this blog. Well, here is an update anyways. Reached some important milestones: Also did another BoB (I do these every wednesday, after collecting my kingdom). +4,8m since my last BoB.
15. According to Grimy's farm sheet, lantadymes (which I used to do) are only a little bit less profit and xp, but much more reliable and not 310k per seed. I think I'm gonna switch back to lantas for now.
16. I use both jujus and scroll of life, so according to theory, I should profit.
17. I recently started farming torstol, since I have heard that torstol is supposed to be massive profit with Scroll of Life and Jujus, and the xp is great. However, in my 34 patches harvested so far, I'm running at a loss of over 900k and haven't even gotten a herb seed back. Were torstol struck hard by the herb crash, or am I just unlucky? Should I switch back to lantadyme?
18. Thanks! Farming is my absolute favorite skill (and it helps that the cape is so nice), so I will probably keep on farming! I also like keeping balanced skills and have a small goal of all skills 70+ (though I can't stand thieving, so that'll take some time). Here are some recent levels towards that goal:
19. Hi, my name is Regi (in-game name Mr Regifox). I have been reading blogs on these forums for a long time, and when I recently started to play again, I decided to make one for myself! On this blog you will see some minor level-ups and goals of mine; no corp solos or 20m flips. Just a casual 'scaper trying to have some fun.
Starting stats: Starting BoB: Most recent BoB (Jan. 26th 2011)
Short-term: Long-term:
20. I have been doing loads of farming lately; 5-7 herb runs, 3-4 bush runs, 1 fruit tree run and 2 tree runs per day. However, I'm having major trouble with the fruit tree patches. I farm those at around the same time every day (around 10 AM), but quite often, they are not fully grown when I try to harvest them 24 hours later. Then my fruit trees fall out of sync with my trees, and I have to spend more time farming. My question is; how do you deal with the problem of your patches growing out of sync? Also, you should really add in the herblore habitat update. The Juju farming pots add 33% more harvest to your herb runs and if you don't do the habitat regularly, you can even use the fruit tree patch for 1 more patch in your tree/fruit tree run.
21. This is not what I originally said. I tele to Miscellania using the fairy rings, and then using the shortcut between the pier and the bush patch. I estimate you save about 20 seconds on your run (not thoroughly tested, but a rough estimate) Also: I can confirm that you do get your seeds back from trees with the scroll of life effect, even though you pay the farmer to chop it down for you.
22. One more thing: On the bush runs, you can use the Fremmenik sea boots 2/3 to jump from the docks to right next to the bush patch, saving you some time and run energy. (I will stop harassing you with things to add soon :P)
23. Really nice guide, as usual, Zaaps! I have used this guide the last few weeks, and it's really helping me on my way to 99 farming :D Just a few things i'd like to add: 1. You have misspelled Trollheim 9/10 times. It's supposed to be Trollheim and not Trollhiem. 2. Although I see that you have thought about it when designing your farm run, you never mentioned that you want to get rid of runes as soon as possible (it might be that i have missed something, but in that case, this should be put so people can see it more easily). In my setup, I use house tele for the Taverly tree and Ardougne tele for the Ardougne patch, so I do those before I do for example Cabbage Tele and Ectophial, in order to get more inventory space.
