  1. Since nobody else is going to address this issue, I will.It is certainly true that botting is every bit as prevalent as it was before free trade/wilderness pk were removed. While the overall number of bots has remained more or less the same, the purpose of these bots has shifted. Following the removal of free trade, the numerous gold farming operations that once had a significant impact on Runescape's economy largely disappeared. However, in their place we now have more sophisticated bots used for everything from mining to killing green dragons. They are simply less noticeable than before since bots are no longer primarily generic level 3 throwaway accounts to be cycled though. If free trade and open PvP were to return, there would be no reduction is the number of these types of bots. The thing is, with the return of free trade it is a foregone conclusion that the gold farmers that we no longer see will return. Thus, we will have both groups of bots, normal looking players and gold farmers, botting at the same time. Reintroducing free trade/wilderness pking will, therefor, lead to a higher number of bots than ever before. But wait, weren't the normal looking bots that weren't level 3 throwaways there before the 07 changes, as well as the gold farmers? And then when the changes were made, the gold farmers went away? So... by my logic, were free trade and old wildy to be implemented again, wouldn't it just go back to about the same amount of bots as before? Perhaps fewer than before 2008 If Jagex has the tech to fight the bots better?
  2. December 23, 2010 Wow there's a huge storm brewing up over this whole reintroduction of free trade and old wildy. Idk what's gonna happen, and at this point I'm not sure I care. I just hope that Jagex knows what they're doing and really DOES have the method to combat the bots and RWT like they say. Anyway, onto game stuff. Didn't get much done today, cuz I had to help my dad move some crap this morning and then I took a big nap. Got a slayer assignment done while training some ranged. Went up a slayer level as well as a ranged level. Didn't take any screenshots, since I didn't meet any goals or anything or hit any milestones. Currently 63 ranged, 20k or so to 64 and 67 slayer, 57k or so to 68. Gonna go do some barrows, then call it a night. I'll edit if I get anything good. Here's hoping for like, full Dharok's or something :twss:
  3. Merchanting was not a problem at all during free trade. Speaking from experience since I was a merchant pre-08, what a merchant bought or sold an item for didn't affect the accepted market price of that item. Unlike today, where every offer in the GE affects the price, and merch clans can buy out items to make them go up. Thus, because nobody was forced to pay the merchant's price and the community decided what the market price was, merchants were powerless to affect the economy, whether they had malicious intentions or not. That being said, if the GE stays, it should have no restrictions on it. I would rather it not have a recommended price on it either, but I could live if it did. GE with limits though would defeat the entire purpose of having it in the game with free trade.
  4. Thanks! I'm glad to be back and actually be enjoying the game for the first time in quite a while!
  5. I think Jagex's purposes would have been served better had they not made this trailer in the game engine, cuz it looks like hammered crap, really. I don't see a trailer that looks like that attracting many people. Just my two cents.
  6. Hey guys. I am, obviously, IRDizzy, and this is going to be a blog about my return to RuneScape. I started RuneScape in July of 2005, and played pretty much nonstop up until about August of 2008. The free trade updates of December of 07 and January of 08 affected me greatly. Before those updates, I was a successful merchant. At one point in time, I had a plethora of rare items in my bank, as well as over 100 million gp, and some nice armor to boot. Then it all went downhill. Right before free trade updates of December 07, I ended up losing the vast majority of my wealth to lots of crappy luck and scammers. Yeah some of it was dumb, but I was a dumb young guy at the time. The rest of it was just pure bad luck. I died to a random while I was using the bathroom, or my connection severed while I was grabbing a bite to eat and when I got back... boom gone. So, I was about to start working on getting it all back when, surprise, I can't merchant anymore. Wow. Well I had pretty much lost my livelihood, and I tried to find other things that filled it, but nothing quite seemed to do it for me. So, eventually, I cancelled my membership and quit playing. I didn't really make a conscious decision to quit... I just did. My playing time spiraled down and down and eventually I just wasn't playing anymore. But now... I've come back. I started playing f2p a couple weeks ago, and was actually enjoying it. So, I've restored my membership and am back to playing now in full swing. A lot of things have changed since I stopped playing, and some of them I've had to adjust to already. This blog will be documenting my return back to RuneScape, getting my feet wet again, accomplishing some goals, adjusting to changes, and hopefully earning some cash along the way. Right now I'm on Christmas break, so I can make an update pretty much every day. But once it's over, I'll only be updating on the weekends, as school and sports keeps me busy during the week. [spoiler=Current Goals/Stats] Current Stats: Now, for the first update... December 21, 2010 Before I quit playing, I set a goal for myself; All skills 60 or over. I never did it. It's still a goal of mine, and now it's tougher since dungeoneering has been released and my level is a lofty 9, but I hope to achieve it soon. However, I did make a stride toward that goal today in smithing. I bought some steel bars and smithed them into cannon balls. The end result; 500k profit and 60 smithing. One step closer. Later on, I decided to go do some barrows. I remembered that being fun. So I tried to recall what I needed, and went and did it. Didn't get anything good... but at least it paid for itself. Here are the spoils from the two trips; http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/8222/barrowsspoils122110.png December 22, 2010 The day isn't over yet, but I figure I'll update and if I need to add something I can do it later. I finally heard about Jagex possibly bringing back the old wildy and free trade. Those changes would affect me hugely, since I used to merchant, and I would love free trade to come back. However, I do have some concerns. I've already expressed my opinion in the thread about it, no need to repeat myself here. Anyway, I decided I wanted 70 mage. I don't use magic often, but I hear it's necessary for boss fights, god wars and such, so I figured why the heck not, since I was only one level off? So, I grabbed some laws and powerteleported at Camelot, and this is the result; http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/9182/70mage122210.png I also hear that range is a big deal too. Plus my range level is kinda noobish anyway... lol. So I'm moving on to ranged next. Don't have a clue what the quickest way to train ranged is, though. Guess I'll figure something out.
  7. Bingo. If they don't do this right, it's gonna create even more problems than existed before December 07 and spell the death of RS as far as I'm concerned.
  8. This whole thing disturbs me greatly. First, the poll disturbes me because of the reasons already mentioned. I'm sure you all know them, but just to reiterate; why no login? Why can I just type in any name I want and it seems to work? Better yet, why am I able to type in the same name twice and it doesn't even give me a hint of an error message? Why didn't Jagex do this in a poll, instead of in such an unorthodox manner? Second, the prospect of the wilderness and free trade coming back disturbs me as well. To establish myself; I would love it if the wilderness and free trade could come back. The wilderness used to have a sense of desolation, danger, and wild, adrenaline-inducing risk that just couldn't be matched. I thought it was great. Not only that, but I was a successful and avid merchant in the days of free trade. Those changes were part of the reason I quit for so long; I had lost my RS "livelihood." What bothers me, and boy does it bother me, is this: what about the whole REASON those changes were brought about? Was it not to stop RWT once and for all? Did they not come to the conclusion that it was the ONLY way to stop RWT and botting from ruining the game? And did they not nail their feet to the floor by that decision for months on end? Why, then is there the sudden 180 flip here? I would love to see the wild and free trade come back, but not at the cost of the core game mechanic; skilling. If you were around at the time, you probably knew that resources were nearly impossible to get. There were simply so many bots, they would take all the resources and it would be almost impossible to effectively train skills or make money off those skills. I also certainly do NOT want to see the cause of cheaters furthered. If Jagex has, as Mod Mark claims, new ways to detect and stop cheaters, I want to know about some of them. Obviously I can't know a whole lot, because then the cheaters can circumvent them easily if they know about them, but I want to know something. More than just "i canz fite betar nao" I just don't know what to think. I think Jagex has done this vote in the most unorthodox, easy to fraud way possible, and they've done it that way for no apparent reason. I also would love to see this happen, but not at the cost of cheaters being able to cheat easily again.
  9. Hey guys. As I'm sure you can see, I'm IRDizzy. It's supposed to be IAmDizzy, but I had problems registering, so I ended up having to use IRDizzy. You can call me Dizzy for short. That name comes from my old Runescape username, Disturbed318. My friends would fondly call me dizzy for short. My real name is John. Some stuff about me; I live in North Carolina, have been playing Runescape for five and a half years, since summer of 2005, am 16, will be 17 in about a week and a half (January 1), and I am currently a high school junior. I play sports, soccer and basketball, mainly basketball, and I am also a gamer in general. I have an Xbox 360, and I love to play Call of Duty, and Halo, and Fallout 3, and any other good game out there. But especially Fallout 3. I love to go to theme parks and ride roller coasters cuz I'm a huge adrenaline junkie. I'm also into computers and video editing. I have a beast iMac with a 27 inch screen, Intel Core i7 processor and ATI 1 gb graphics card. I have no trouble running RSHD... lol. I would like to go to NC State University and study computer engineering. Hopefully that'll happen. Some RS stuff about me. I just came back from a long hiatus off Runescape. (2+ years) I've set a lot of goals for myself and I hope they stick. I'm hoping to accomplish some of those goals that I had before I stopped playing in summer of 08. I'm a level 106 p2p, and I like to skill some, do barrows and boss fights (even though I don't really have the levels for bosses right now) and do whatever to make money. I like making money. A lot... lol. Any questions? Hit me up. Talk to me. I'm here to make new friends and have fun, especially since all but one of my old RS friends have stopped playing. I'm probably gonna go start a blog over in the blogscape forum, so check me out some more if you're interested.
