  1. Then you obviously have no idea what kind of jobs there are in the world and how there are many laid back bosses. If you're doing what your job specification requires, then that's all there is to it. What you do while doing that job (If reasonable) generally is okay. Laid back to me does not mean letting your employees waste time playing an online game for 9 hours a day. I'd get disciplined at work for even logging onto facebook, which I think is fair. Honestly if you have time to play a game when you're at work then you should look at getting a more challenging and perhaps a better paying job. Well there's no point in me continuing what I'm trying to say as it's quite obvious not one of you seem to be actually getting the point but rather nit-picking. No one understands AVERAGES either, which I tried to stress earlier. It is precisely that average that makes some of us criticise that "record". Averaging 9 hours of play in the span of 2-3 months is not that bad... it's when you have that kinda huge average over a long period of time that gets unhealthy. Just think about spring break... lots of drinkage over the span of a week then it's back to reality and a more healthy behavior. If you "average" that behavior over the span of 5 years, you get tagged an alcoholic. Once again, our "perfect" community will scare away one of its best posters, Qeltar. And this, my friend, is my point exactly. It seems like the majority of the posters on this thread are under the impression that their lifestyle is correct, and anyone who does not share that lifestyle is wrong. "Just think about spring break...." Sure. Every spring break of mine was spent working overtime so I could pay for college. Just because you might have gone out and gotten blitzed during spring break does not mean everyone did. And that is the problem.
  2. This thread's just turning into Qeltar v everyone else. You do know there are jobs in which you're in an office, and perhaps answering a phone all day? Yes, there are plenty of jobs like that. Those give time to do other things while talking - playing RuneScape for example. I reckon you stop looking for what's wrong with what say and start seeing what's right about what they say. You don't need to criticise everything in life. Nah, I'm with him too. Whoever tried to explain it is possible to play 8 hours a day while having a job and sleeping normal forgot about the real part of life: everything besides a job an sleeping. Okay, you can get around sleeping, playing the average 9 hours a day and doing a job, but that leaves NOTHING for social contact, sports, etc... I call someone who doesn't do sports, and doesn't have any social contacts, other hobbies/occupations an addict, or nolifer if you like this term more. Sigh. I was the one who "tried to explain it is possible". It IS possible. Once again, you (and everyone else on this thread) are assuming that their lifestyle is the only lifestyle. And once again, those were LOW averages. I explained how I could play more then the average 9 hours a day. With my current situation, I could play an easy 6+ hours a day on average, and still have plenty of time to do the things I love in life (snowboard, MX, and kayaking). However, I am not naiive enough to assume that because I need those things in my life, everyone does. Also, I am not naiive enough to assume that because I work around 35 hours a week, everyone else does. I have plenty of friends who work 20 hours a week, and plenty more who work 60+ hours a week. What is right for you is not necessarily right for your neighbor.

  4. *rolls eyes* Why do you insist on assuming that everyone is in the exact same position as yourself? I work at best 40 hours a week, and live less then 5 miles from my job. I am not married, and moved two hours south for the job. My gf visits me on weekends. I live by myself, in an apartment (read: no maintenance work). If I wanted to, I could easily put in the amount of time this person has. I also get every other Friday off, plus 12 Federal Holidays a year, plus 4 hours of PTO every two weeks. In two more years, that will be bumped up to 6 hours PTO every two weeks. Seriously, stop trying to push your lifestyle onto others....
  5. *points to above post* It's possible to have a social life, while playing the game, albeit extremely hard.
  6. One thing people have seemed to miss is the fact that this is an AVERAGE. Nowhere did it say that the person played 9 hours a day, every day. It is absolutely possible to achieve this, while still maintaining a job. I work 9 hours a day, Monday through Thursday, and 8 hours on Friday. I also have every other Friday off. I live 10 minutes from my job. I leave the house at 6:45 AM, and get home around 4 pm. If I played 5 hours at night, Monday through Thursday, that would be 20 of the 63 hours in the week. On every other Friday, I could play 15 hours, and still pull in over 8 hours of sleep. Same on Saturday and Sunday. So, in two weeks, I would have played 115 hours, which is 8.21 hours per day. Oh, and that is with getting over 8 hours of sleep every night. If you can function at 6 hours of sleep a night, you could do at least an extra 2 hours of RS a day. (I gave myself over 9 hours of sleep during the week). This would push the average to 10.21 hours per day. EDIT: Also, due to the fact that I have a government job, my average (if I did this) would be even higher. We get 12 holidays, plus I get 4 hours PTO every two weeks. Also, we get to go home early a lot. For instance, we got sent home at noon last Wed and Thurs, since New Years was coming up. I am confidant I could average 11+ hours a day. Also, I am confidant I could average 9 hours while still "having a life".
  7. I beg to differ. She has every right to buy what she wants. Additionally, what were people, who are complaining right now, doing when they had the chance to buy a Santa hat? When they had a chance to get one, they didn't. It's their fault. And 1k isn't a monopoly. A monopoly is a complete control. She doesn't have that power. Sure, 1k santas is a lot, but it isn't the whole market. Might want to look into what a monopoly is a bit more bud....
  8. Ì think theyre just racists :< im not coming back to RS wif these racist updates You mean sexist? Depends, if you think the women is a whole different race then its racism So, basically, you are saying that you are using a word in a completely different manner then the rest of the world. Mk. In that case, you are a sheep-molester. Don't worry, my definition of sheep-molester is a good thing.....

It does take more effort, but I wouldn't say "way too much effort." Sounds like you have the wrong skiis/board for it. If I tried to take my K2 Spitfire into powder, I would drown. With my Santa Cruz Smear, I float over it. This is what I'm thinking of picking up for my next backcountry board: http://www.santacruzsnowboards.com/boards/board.php?sku=66161133&season=0809

Board. I have a trip planned to Vail, Colorado in January. I have a gov't job, where I get 4 hours of annual leave and 4 hours of sick leave every paycheck, plus every other Friday off....I am going to be in Vail for over 10 days, with only taking off 4 days of work. Plus, I will be getting paid while I board.... Ka-ching! I currently ride a Santa Cruz Smear, with Ride LX bindings.
  13. Correct me if i am wrong but isn't it the fact that pvp drop items that can be converted into cash that is the real (part) of inflation? Sure 76king brought tons of that in, but pvp will only continue this right? You're wrong (unless I don't understand the PVP system). I haven't played RS in months. I have started playing again recently, and I am curious as to the posts such as this. PVP: Do you receive straight cash? Because if you don't, then PVP is NOT what is causing inflation. It is just causing money to move around. It brings absolutely no new money into the game. If I get a DFS as a drop, I received a 30M item. 30M was not introduced into the game, a DFS was introduced into the game. No, you get statues and such, and you trade those to an NPC for pure cash. Wow. I stand corrected. Why the [bleep] would JaGex put in place such an idiotic system? Has no one there studied Economics before?

  15. Sorry. For whatever reason, I have yet to figure out how to do multiple quotes in one post at this forum. Also, I wasn't really trying to start an argument (nor did I think that I was in an argument), I just wanted to discuss that idea. Rereading my posts, it definitely does seem pretty antagonistic though.
  16. You must also remember that phats and the other rares were once worth about or even more than what they're worth today. I remember when blue phats were hanging out at ~500 mill (I think it was 500m, anyways; it's been too long). This might just be them going to where inflation would have put them had everyone not started selling them off several years ago (their decline started, I believe, with construction). I enjoy watching phat prices rise.... It brings back memories.... I dont since it keeps reminding me how stupid it was to sell my white for 170m. My red for 153m. :(
  17. I don't know about you, but for me enjoying life is far more important than high-end jobs, should I have to choose between the two. After all, the latter is only supposed to achieve the former, and often fails to do so. I've learnt to type fairly fast due to Runescape, and basic economics, but that's it. It's not supposed to be an educational game (an oxymoron if I ever saw one), it's supposed to be a fun game. Absolutely. However, I have a job that I absolutely love, that is EXTREMELY well paying, and extremely challenging. Runescape did not help me in one bit achieve that. It took years of schooling, and years of busting my butt at various other jobs. Also, I am all about enjoying my down time. Otherwise, I would not be playing this game. I just don't kid myself, and say that this game helps me in real life. It doesn't. At all. Any "real life help" it gives would be negated by the real life negativity that comes with playing a game. Once again, I'm not attacking the game, I think it's great. I play it a lot during my free time. Yes, Runescape did help me uncover a part of myself that I had not know before: My love for economics. It drove me to study Economics in college. I currently work on contracts that are often $200M and above, and I effect the United States economy (and the world's economy) on a daily basis. However, my love for economics was always inside me, RS just helped bring it out a bit.
  18. It's nothing to di with justifying playing games. Or trying to say these are skills you can directly reel off to an employer. It's pure and simple in the day-to-day living of life how things help you out slightly. If runescape helps you to get you're typing speed up slightly, good for you - it may not be a huge achievment but its a helpful by product of having played. If runescape improves you're hand-eye co-ordination and you're someone who plays alot of sports or needs this skill and therefore it helps you a bit all the better, not a hgue achievement but its asomething from real life that runescape helped with as a by product. If you are someone who plays a lot of sports, the improvement that you get from RS is insignificant. EDIT: I would love to sit and debate this with you (seriously), but I have to go to my job. Which, btw, RS in no way helped me get. And that's when it occurred to me, my wrong way of thinking. You're just an [wagon]. Sorry bud. Didn't realize not agreeing with someone meant you are an [wagon]. Lets see how far that thinking gets you in life.

EDIT: I would love to sit and debate this with you (seriously), but I have to go to my job. Which, btw, RS in no way helped me get. First and foremost you are assuming to be someone who plays sport you must be good at sport to begin with. If you are bad at sports but still play or if you play a lot. An improvement is an improvement. If you're hand eye co-ordination is say 1mm better that can make the difference between a hit and a miss in some situations. To say any sort of improve is insignificant is stupid. I mean if a runner managed to run the 100m 0.01 seconds faster due to some new trainers it wouldn't be insignificant as tht 0.01 seconds can mean the difference between winning or losing. I know runescape improved my hand eye-coordination a bit, whihc on the odd occasion has proved useful. Eg messing about with friends throwing rubbish at each other manging to block it more often. When I have to rush round to the tils in work cause it gets busy better hand eye co-ordination, even marginally means I can put stuff through the tils quicker and press the buttons quicker etc etc. I'm not trying to say these improvements justify playing games or that they are any huge deal. But an improvement or life lesson is an improvement or a life lesson regardless of the source or how minute it is. Yes, any improvement is significant. You seemed to miss my point though, perhaps I was not clear enough. Look at it this way. I improve my hand eye coordination slightly, but at what cost? People who talk economics should understand this point quite well: That is an EXTREMELY inefficient way to improve your hand eye coordination, not to mention the fact that the repercussions for sitting still for such a long time would offset that improvement. (Increased weight, weaker heart, blah blah blah) Look at it this way. If I shoot up some heroin, my hand eye coordination will get better, as I try to hit that tiny vein with a tiny needle. Are the side effects worth that?

  22. What? No. Just.....no. Jesus Christ, these threads are getting worse and worse. Runescape does not "help you in life." Seriously. Are you going to go to a future employee, and say "Well, I feel I should be hired because I can type really quickly, have extremely poor grammar, and somewhat decent hand-eye coordination. Oh, and I also have 94 slayer."? No. It isn't going to happen. All of these things people say that video games (read: RuneScape) help is just a way to try to justify the time spent. No. If you spend 5 hours a day for 4 years, and increased your word count slightly, you have accomplished very very little. I'm not saying stop playing video games. At all. I AM saying stop trying to justify them with stupid threads like this. (Not directed at you, OP. I have no idea what other threads you have done.) Think about what you could have really accomplished to help you in life, had you only spent 2 hours a day playing, and 3 hours building an actually marketable skill set.

  24. Thanks, but I am was more concerned about the red ad when I was playing. It looks like it was just a fluke, the red ad went away this time.
  25. Damn it, never mind. The red ad went away this time. I wonder why it didn't two days ago? I guess this can be locked, as it is fixed now. Thanks anyway.
