  1. By my logic I should not make decisions on the Off Topic Board. By my logic, if I were going to make decisions on the Off Topic Board, I would ask people what they wanted and accept that, regardless of my personal opinions on what should happen. Yup, however they have no power to enforce it, since the moderator is not allowed to ask, tell or demand that a user does not post on a thread without the Sword of Damocles hanging above their head on the threat of being percieved to have bullied the user... In real life, if someone is being counter productive you can play the game elsewhere, or suspend the game for the five or ten minutes it takes for them to get bored and wander off, letting you play for the next two, five, ten hours without interruption. Online, if someone is being counter productive you can't play the game elsewhere, and suspending an online game wouldn't work, since it is not a 'We play from X to Y and otherwise the game only exists in our heads', it is 'The game exists on a thread, play whenever you have time.' Then why does the forum resist every time the admin does anything? Why is it that each time the admin have got involved a lot of tempers have frayed? The basic principle, I would say, is that we don't want to change something that already works. I have no objections to you trying to converse, but people are not split down the middle, people have continually rejected the notion of merging or deleting the three forums... So it is difficult to accept the admin are working for us, when they reject most of what we say and do stuff we don't want them to do.
  2. Spain and Britain signed a treaty. The USA and Britian are still at war.
  3. The theme is progress and discovery.
  4. Not yet. Basic ships will cost between 3,000 and 5,000 resources, and between 9,000 and 12,000 Cash units.(Narrowed it down to that) Basic stations will cost between 10 and 18 thousand resources, and between 13,000 and 20,000 Cash units. Survey probes cost between 2 and 3 thousand resources and between 5 and 7 thousand cash units. More stuff you bolt onto a ship the more it costs. You can build ships out of any material you have access to to give it bonuses.
  5. This is what I mean about not having all the facts... Earth, I am the soul surviving member from the Library...a significant minority of the posts are mine. And, oddly enough, I don't want the posts to be deleted, I want them kept where they are...However since that is not an option I came up with a compromise that I could live with. The actual impact on the Tavern is negligable.
  6. [hide]They took a long time to make because the ones on that site were so overcolored. When I made the DP20 there were literally over 100 shades of gray. [/hide] On that note, 256 colour images are best. [hide]The resource page is lacking a line, the symbols are placed under conductivity.[/hide] No? [hide]To make this less OT: Any bonuses for encuraging eating meat, plants or minerals? [/hide] Yup, depends on how deeply you want to go into the details of your food groups. Default is no bonuses. [hide]Arch: The planet in Sector 59 is called Gamma Circunis when it's in the Triangulum system. Please fix, as this is my home system. [/hide] Gamma Circunis is the Blue Star, Gamma Triangulum is the Orange Star. Please consult: [hide][/hide] [hide]EDIT: As a note to arch; Orkz would not be opposed to large weapons. Orkz would in all likely hood be mad because their governing body was not using enough massive weapons (because there can never be enough DAKKA). [/hide] Ok.
  7. Prussia beings planning a Great Exhibitions for 1800. Dusty, plans are moved from St. Petersburg to Hannover as per HRE Emperor I should be able to do this, and I am sure Ico agrees as well.
  8. Yup, hence proving my point. However I do not have the power or inclination to merge the two forums, so me knowing nothing about Off Topic has little bearing on anything.
  9. And yet... Added to that, the thread rules cannot be enforced...So, as long as someone posts in character, they can come on and totally screw up games. It is better to leave it in a protected zone, where it is occassionally browsed and may one day be restarted, than to bury it behind a wall of Hegemony/Dungeoneering type games, where, if it is ever restarted it will be by the Dungeoneering/Hegemony crowd, which would turn the game from what it once was into something totally different. As long as it is seperate people consider the ideas within them to be seperate. My attempt at compromise is to delete it, since that fufills both our goals... It prevents their memory being destroyed by a 'version' being created by the Tavern crowd, and it removes a dead forum from the public view. To me the Off Topic Forum is a Forum for Off Topic Stuff. Since: Off Topic(noun)=Not to do with the main subject. Ergo: Off Topic(Board)=Not to do with Runescape. Then: Dungeoneering, Rusco, Hegemony=Not to do with Runescape. Hence: Dungeoneering, Rusco, Hegemony=Off Topic(noun)=Off Topic(Board). Hence why this whole debate is fundermetally flawed, you have little or no knowladge of what you are dealing with. I have seen little evidence that you know anything about Rusco or Dungeoneering or Hegemony... Thus you fall back on the 'They are roleplays'... Just as I know relatively little about anything in the Off Topic Forum, thus I fall back on the 'It's Off Topic Stuff'. Not really much else I can say, you will either accept the opinion that you are not able to make this decision, or you will ignore it because you already have the right to make this decision...
  10. Prussia shakes its collective head at Imperial France. "They have the fighting ability of a wet sock" Quaffs the Prussian King, "Though we may have defended them in the past, as one may defend a lost puppy from a savage dog...Now we see the puppy is a runt, and the savage dog its mother, trying to put it out of its misery." to a Russian ambassador. (Since there are not dictaphones you will have a hard time proving I said it...)
  11. Because dead ideas should stay dead. Rusco was a slow paced game with people who wouldn't dream of killing each other... The Tavern is fast paced and everyone tries to kill everyone else. The Library and Tavern are two diametrically opposed ideas... Hence why I don't want them merged. Thus deleting a forum, of which only one proper member remains and said person argues for deletion, is the best course of action...If action must be taken. As for the 'new life' arguement...wouldn't it make more sense to merge the tavern into Off Topic? Merging one lifeless forum into a forum with 14 members and two and a half significant threads(Occationally another one breaks through but we never have more than three properly active for more than a week) Same applies for leaving dead forums on active boards...
  12. Pshhhht, no one wants to play with virus bombs, laser death rays and complexy sciency stuff, they are all involved though. Mather has used Stargate tech in EVERY Hegemony game where it was mildly allowed. If I ban it then he will research it in various ways and it will keep coming back and people will keep whining(Which is far more annoying than Mather using Stargate tech  ). Thus the tech is allowed within certain parameters. Added to that you have Hex's Legacy: Banning means he or someone else can complain to an admin and the admin freak out, shut the thread down or tell me I have to allow it because otherwise it is barbaric and other various terms which show shortsightedness on their behalf.
  13. Banning stuff is not gonna happen. Mather can copy stuff from StarGate, but the stuff will obey more realistic rules than found on StarGate.
  14. I think it is because there is nothing to discuss. We have said our bit on the other thread, the admin/mod made their views quite clear. Forum will be merged after the majority of people say they would prefer nothing to change, though if something must happen then Falador Library/Rusco should get deleted.
  15. You could always build more than one reactor...that add some capacitors, so you could charge up to make the jump. 270,000,000,000 For a megatonne of Iron. 750,000,000 Joules...so 360 seconds worth of power. Or 6 minutes.
  16. Solar=10,000,000 Joules(Watts per second) Nuclear=100,000,000 Joules Fusion=750,000,000 Joules
  17. When the game starts, otherwise people will try to change their planet, I will say no, they will think up some reason why they should, I will still say no, they will get mad. No one else can edit the website, and I would prefer not to add things unless neccessary. Something along these lines was what I planned: I am thinking of using a similar layout as above and just going through some of the traditional Hegemony techs(Fusion Power, Rail/Coil guns and such) as well as more speculated techs (Blackhole guns, Tacyon Drives, Transporters).
  18. Ok then, I am going to bed. Website has been updated. Please be aware that the Resources, Trade Routes and Starmap do not link back, so please use the back button on your browser. Also the Trade Route map is not interactive, it will simply be updated whenever a feasible route is found(Whatever that means, I haven't decided yet...Any ideas would be helpful...but be realistic, I am unlikely to update it instantly or periodically.) Also the Resources page does NOT tell you what temperature a resource occurs at. You can, however, make some educated guesses based on the type and melting point (You won't find a gas on a planet which has an average temperature lower than that resources melting point). Also the Resources page does NOT tell you the function of materials...though some can be guessed through clues scattered through this thread and on the page itself. For example H-Sink(Heat-Sink) has a high Melting Point and a high Specific Latent Heat...thus you should be able to deduce that it is a heat shield AND a heat storage device... Dashes indicate Not Applicable information...Example of which would be the Specific Latent Heat of Wood...Wood does not melt, therefore does not have Specific Latent Heat....If something comes up in relation to this then ask me. Technology and Races do NOT work, currently. If anyone has a layout then that would be awesome. Also if anyone has any feed back on the design and such, then feel free. http://users.aber.ac.uk/lug9/delta_v/ (If you get Hal then refresh)
  19. Works fine, I can edit them in gimp to have a transparency.
  20. The sprites seem fine. They just need to be distinct so that they can be stuck in the grid if neccessary.
  21. When I am done. Aside from building all the stuff to make the game simpler to run later, a large part of the task left involves getting the players to create their races, techs and chose ship sprites: http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=411055&st=0 Site has alot of good ones. Try to find spirtes that are around 100 pixals by 100 pixals, or resize them =)
  22. Ok...I am adding a rule. If you have a problem with any sciency stuff other people come up with tell me and let them argue with me. Massive private arguements with three hours of mind numbing maths I can do. Massive public arguements with six hours of speculation, boasting and other such is something I can do without. And would people please stop complaining things are overpowered(If you have a concern then PM me with a quote) Either it is obviously overpowered and unrealistic or it is allowed.
  23. Sigh.... Ok. Mather has a race of nanites. So 5 nanometers. The Specific Latent Heat(Energy required to change from Solid to Liquid) of Beryllium is 1,300,000 Joules per Kilogram...and that is high end(usually it is around 100,000). Beryllium has a density of 184 kilograms per cubic meter... 5 nanometer sphere has a volume of 523 nm^3 Or 5.23×10-25 Cubic Meters. So... 0.000000000000000000000000523*1,300,000 is 0.00000000000000000068 Joules. So realistically, a very small amout of laser fire could melt a very large number of Nanites. Edit: Forgot to multiply out the density, but the change is negligable.
  24. 500 years of research, yeah.
  25. Seems more sensible than merging... Though the point of doing anything is still questionable.
