  1. One thing worth noting is that the 850,000 member profit is only likely to be around 50% of jagex's income. The f2p worlds will too make a lot of money from the extra advertising placed in the sidebars which not only pays to maintain the game but also will provide profit to them. Personally i doubt that jagex will sell to anyone, if we look to their corperate site which seems to have been negleted in this article we see under "future development" "Jagex has proprietary network communication and graphics compression technologies which are utilized in all its games. These technologies are continually evolving and form the backbone of our development plans. RuneScape was completely re-written during the latter part of 2003 and early 2004 allowing 'RuneScape 2' to be launched in March 2004. 'RS2' featured a completely new games engine and vastly improved graphics for an even more fun playing experience. At the same time we maintained the 'play anywhere' philosophy that is central to our offering. We continually improve our technology to enable the company to attack and achieve our ambitious targets. We intend to become a significant online operator in all the major gaming markets worldwide; developing and commercializing highly compelling persistent character games that appeal to as wide an audience as possible, based on cutting edge technologies developed in house. Our ambition for 2006 is to exceed 900,000 subscribers for RuneScape, to take RuneScape into other non-english language markets and to develop further games using our technologies." Iin my eyes if they accompish the language task then runescape will skyrocket as only around 1 in 5 mmorpg's give that facility. Once the language programs are in place i suspect we will see around 20-30 new servers opening in new locations; france, spain, germany and holland will all open up new markets.
  2. it's pretty much impossible to stop inflation entirely, indeed inflation on some scale is nessesary to fund the new players of the game which join every day. However at most this only needs be say 1 billion gp per day. Ironically the more players which join the game the more high alchers we get all of whom bring in more cash into the game, at the rate one high alcher can produce money inflation will continue to grow until something fairly drastic is done bout it.
  3. This guy does very similar stuff in other games such as WoW and actually got his doctorate from a thesis on the economies of online gaming, worth a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Castronova theres an interview with him in New Scientist (21, october 2006, issue 2574, pg 56)
  4. bare in mind that locations wise about 10% of the world map is still covered in darkness, add to that the recent charter ships update and i think we'll be seeing a lot more islands. as to the "new server for each language" comment it's a load of rubbish. bare in mind that the game screen consists of 3 frames: chatbox, control panel and screen. All that is needed to do for language updates is change the control panel which feeds the other two. therefore it would make more sense to have language as an extra option in the detail section. remember that low and high detail are both fed from the same server just as different forms of login so the server sends differing data. The same could (and probably will) be done for languages.
  5. well written indeed, i can see the editor is a man after my own heart, i too am trying for the quest cape of glory. The behind the scenes said a stat bonus appropriate to the cape, now for something like wcing, this may mean chopping a tad faster but what on earth could this be for questing? you have an interesting point about the still room and with 5 minutes thought most people can thing of other examples such as a celler: (wood, coal etc), ice house: (food etc) My question is this: for each new room avaliable will jagex increase the room limit? if along the line we see say 5 new rooms introduced, will the room limit reflect this?
  6. thats ^^^^^^^^ gotta be worth a whole box
  7. Hello sexy ppl i'm here with a rough guide NOT 100% ACCURATE!!!! hey ppl i didnt write this but igot it off the runescape forums it's meant to be a rough guide of the latest quest but needs a lot of work. 02-Oct-2006 20:26:45 Hello, i completed the new QUEST And here is the detail how i completed it! Recruitments : Completed Elemental Workship I 30 Smithing 20 Magic The battered key! Anny pickaxe 8 coal 2 elemental ore (get in the quest) Hammer REWARD: 7.5k Crafting and smithing XP 1 quest point (and ability to make a Mind shield or helmet.) Start location: Digsite House 1. Go to DIGSITE HOUSE, Than search the bookcase whats standing alone. U will get a book, read the book and u will find a Note whit some cordinates on it. 2. Go to elemental workshop, than go to the North place whit the water elementals (i thought) Search the "MACHINE" Next of you. 3. when u have get a "key" from the machine, use it on the DOOR in the middle of the room, and it should go open. Than u entered a WHOLE NEW ROOM!!! 4. The 4 machines: The tank The wind tunnel The press The crane 4.1 The tank: Search all the crates in the room, to find all the 3 Cog's and a "PIPE" (what u need for this one) When you found the PIPE go upstairs the staircase and go to the NORTH. Untill you see a broken PIPE, use ur own pipe on it and its fixed!!.. just 3 to go;) 4.2 The wind tunnel: Now you may use your COG'S. Use the biggest cog on the 1 away from the other 2, use the middle 1 on the lowest. And use ur smallest one on the above one.. And thats 2Wink 4.3. The press: Now go upstairs and than west, untill you see a MACHINE, click on the machine and u will see 3 pipes The right awnser: Use 1 whit 1, 2 whit 2 and 3 whit 3. Like this! _ _ _ |1|2|2| |3|3|1| And now go downstairs and try to put the HANDLE, and it should work!!! 1 left;) 4.4 The crane: First make an ELEMENTAL BAR (OF 4 COAL AND 1 ELEMENTAL ORE, to get elemental ore just go to the earth elementals!) When you made the elemental bar (furnace is at fire elementals) use it on the workbanche (MAKE SURE U GOT HAMMER WITH YOU) And make an ELEMENTAL CLAW of it. Go back downstairs again and use your claw on the Crane and ur finished with the 4 machines!! (gratz) 5. The last part Now there stands something about "EQUIPMENT" now just make an other bar (DONT DO ANYTHING WHIT IT). than go back downstairs again, and use ur bar on the car. than go whit the crane in front of you and little above the bar untill it picks up. than when it got picked up put the handle from the crane again until it goes up. than rotate ur crane so ur bar will go into the lava. now when it is gold get it up again and put it on your car again! Now go to the next challange LOL. When you are at the press just click on the handle so the bar will be get pressed. Now go to the next challange again. Now you are at the water tank, open the tank (by using the handle) than use the machine south of it ( forgot the name ). now 2 bars will go up to your car, use the machine again. and your bar will go into the aquarium. Close the door, and fill it whit water. let the water go out (by using the valve's) and get your bar out of it. Move on to the last One!!! Now this is very simple. just move your cart to the next challange, and put the wind tunnel on!, and put it of and your done:) and u will get a primed bar. 6. Now go downstairs and go to the mind chamber, put yourself on the electric sit. and your primed bar on the other one. (first your bar:P) And you will be get somekind of electrocuded:) Now u will have a mind elemental bar! Just go all upstairs until u are at the workbench and make a elemental hat of it (and u completed the quest CONGRATULATIONS!
  8. i have seen all the sigs for this for agggggges but never followed them, so today i thought what the hell, followed em and arrived at this hugely fantastic idea. vv good and well explained and designed keep up the good work.
  9. I like this one it's voiceing a lot of my thoughts about skills in the game. my latest annoyence is the upgrade of the d axe with such a low requirement surely it should be lvl 75+ as it means that lower lvls can now reach higher lvls easier. By normal economy trends this means we will have a sudden rush of magic logs as more players reach the higher lvls and are able to chop them faster but by contrast maple/yew sales may suffer because everyone is chopping magics......not in my opinion the best state of affairs. Not to mention the compusary tripling of d axe prices as soon as the announcement was made.
  10. Not quite sure i can agree there, yes it's thier game but were the ones paying for it and by doing so we enter a contract with jagex. Their adverts claim "regular updates of the game" most people (wrongly) take this as once a week and so feel that when no update turns up they have been wronged, it doesnt make them stupid or immature but merely misguided. "as are the rules, and mute and banishments" Indeed it is up to them who they banish/mute though in the contract you take part in its says "no player will be banned/muted without the reason being given....and opportunity to appeal against offenses will also be provided". It is therefore a matter of contract that jagex cannot ban someone because they feel like it. In the case i made in an earlier post i was muted but no reason was given nor oppertunity to appeal the mute, in doing so they broke their legal contract with me and in doing so left themselves open to a lawsuit albeit a petty and stupid lawsuit. I could in theory claim compensation for that one days mute but of course i won't because it would be dumb. "so if you have a problem, tough" unfortunatly for some this is indeed true but it should not be this way. As i said it is time for jagex to go back to basics and think of ways to amend these increasingly common problems. For those of you who have had no problems with jagex, you are lucky (or maybe i'm unlucky) and should be thankful though it does not mean the problems arn't there. If you do have a problem just remember that in their contract jagex have promised to basically look after you providing no rules are broken.
  11. How rude of me i forgot to say what a well written article it was. Well there u go.
  12. @Kiara_Kat this is true but i can only go on the evidence given to me. If they suddenly update that list i will fully withdraw all statements.
  13. @Last1Left i totally agree the quest rewards are fairly good therefore it should be a hard quest i myself cannot do it due to requirements but i feel that is a good thing, something to work towards
  14. also i find that people dont so much hate jagex in general it is a particular action of thiers that agravates people, construction costs, pure ess and the world 111 things being good example. While jagex does indeed do a superb job in general their recent handling of various situations has been poor. Things like pure ess could have been handled much better by simply asking the gamers in a poll whether this would be acceptable to them. The split between jagex and players has grown wider over many petty things which could have easily being avoided. Myself and several others have commented that jagex has become too profit orientated and feel that it would be good to go back to basics, it is now almost impossible to ask jagex a straight question. Instead we now have the website equivilent of "press one for banning enquiries". Two examples here come to mind: 1.recently i was muted for a day, i recieved a message telling me i was muted but gave me no reason, puzzled i log into the "appeal a ban" section and was greeted by "congratulations there are no offences against this account" and the glorious green flag. So i dutifully sent a query (after searching the site for 30 mins to find the link) asking what was wrong. That was a month ago i have had no official explaination or apology. 2.I was trying to write an article on j-mods and p-mods in todays game, and was trying to find out the approximate ratio of player mods to players i.e 1 in every 500 players is a player mod. I searched and searched the knowledge base to no effect, i then decided to ask about in the forums where a fantasticaly briliant forum mod offered to pass on my request to jagex for me, i accepted and less than an hour later she came back to me saying sorry jagex dont know and there is apparently no way of finding out. To me this is quite important if jagex themselves dont know how many p-mods they have then it seems to pose the question what else do jagex not know about. I close with the point that since 2001 they game has increased in players by at least 2000% however there has not been marked rise to the same scale in customer services employies Aaron R Adam D Adam Z Aidan L Alex E Andrew M Andrew W Andy W Ben H Ben W Carl W Charles J Chris G Chris H Chris J Christoph V Conor S Daniel B Daryl B Dave P David R Emilee M Florian P Frank B Fraser P Gary W Gordon H Graeme N Guy K Guy V Holgar G Ingrid J James B James H Jason P Jay V Jesse B John H John S-H Jonathan H Kaiyan A Karen M Kayleigh O Kevin B Kris M Lucy B Marcello Z Mark H Martin F Matthew P Matthias P Michael E Michael H Neil D Nick A Patrick S Paul M Philip K Phillip Y Poppy B Rebecca O Richard A Rick B Rob W Robert M Robin M Ross H-H Samantha G Samir A Sarah B Sarah J Saunders H Simon B Simon B Simon P Simeon A Soeren H Stephen F Stephen W Steve A Tara T Tarquin U Tim J Tim P Tobias B Toby R Tom B Tom M Tom T Vicki M William D Zachory A all those names are the customer support staff. 15. OK, you've made some money quickly, but you haven't done it yourself. It's the difference between working for a living and having a printing press churning out $100 bills in your basement. i'm sorry but a printing press that rolls out $100 bills would pwn. besides you have to operate the press, aint it nice how you can extend a metaphor.
