  1. Just woke up and not every neuron is firing properly yet so I won't get a source, but according to an article I read in a Swedish newspaper some weeks back, while the amount of violent crimes committed by mentally unstable people have gone up (our Minister of Foreign Affairs was a killed a few years ago, and there's a fair few more examples of people with known mental problems who aren't getting the care they need), the amount of actual suicides have gone down considerably over the last 10-20 years. Something the writer of the article, some psychiatrist, attributed to anti-depressants. I wouldn't be all too surprised if that was true. edit: pressed submit without finishing -_- Is the desire to "go out with a bang" genetic and inherent in all human beings, or is it a cultural thing? I'm actually more inclined to say cultural, and that part of the background for these kind of tragics originates from the cultural values we assosciate with fame.
  2. That's what I don't get. How are they going to get more money? They're not moving any offices, they don't seem to be planning any consolidations... If they're not going to streamline their business by removing duplicate functions, I don't follow how they're going to get more money? :-k
  3. Democratic values, human rights and equality.
  4. ... AFAIK WoW offers a ten day free trial at warcraft.com or somesuch. Could be worth checking out.
  5. Limited restores when it comes to misslooted items is a myth. One ticket from guy who got it, one ticket from guy who should've had it, with time, place, raid and item sorts it. ML can also make a ticket. Seriously, we've whined to GM's over missloots since MC, and only once did someone even mention limited restores, and another GM ended up fixing that anyway the next day.
  6. Emotional qualities. Granted, most of my the music I listen to involve raising adrenaline levels, music where I just generally have trouble not doing anything to, but hey, that's an emotional reaction too, right?
  7. And correct political labeling of the media is relevant to the topic because...?
  8. The only times a succubus is really useful is in instances with lots of humanoids. Along with a polymorph from a mage, sap from a rogue, and fear-kiting + chain-seducing you can put 4 humanoids out of the same fight. When there's a demon you've got banish to, and that kind of CC is just plain good. Best to stick with the voidwalker for keeping fights more under control, and then switch back to imp when you've got dark pact and start drain tanking for your exp. Anyone have any tips on arranging a druid's bars/hotkeys? Especially with the new auto-shift, I seem to end up placing keybindings in all kinds of weird places. Got a G15 two days ago so I'm cheating a bit by using the extra keys for some functions, but it's annoying. Can't figure out if it's a genuine issue or just the fact that all my warlock keybindings so well because I've had the same ones for two years.
  9. The murderer committs and is charged with a crime. AFAIK no court has as of yet seen fit to charge the debaters in this specific instance with any crime, which means they havn't comitted one. Until they've been found guilty of something that is actually illegal, they have the same rights as anyone else and should be treated as such, no matter what their opinions might lead to. And silencing them by refusing to invite them to debates doesn't work. Arguments that are allowed to go unchalleged are by far too easy to percieve as arguments that cannot be challenged, which is a lot worse than any "martyrdom" from being under fire constantly. And as other people have said, more rope to hang themselves with.
  10. AoE = Area of Effect. Something that hits an area or multiple targets DoT = Damage over Time HoT = Healing over time There's just too many abbreviations to list though, but if you're wondering about specifics, ask away.
  11. Saw the WoW ads with Mr T. and William Shattner today on youtube. If you havn't already seen them, go take a look. Most fitting description would be "lol" though. "Maybe Mr T. is pretty handy with computers"
  12. As much as it irks me to say, yes, they should be permitted to express their views. However, whether allowing them to express their views unopposed is the best way to educate democratic citizens... Can't say I agree there. They should be invited to participate in debates, but they should be invited alongside people willing and able to tear their views to shreds. 'cause I'm not entirely sure what kind of "debate" two characters like that are meant to create that isn't a platform from which they can spout their own propaganda.

  15. On what factual basis? I sincerely doubt you'll manage to answer that question without slipping straight into the dictionary definition of racism, but go ahead and try.
  16. It depends on how you view realm choices really. My guess is that on most of the servers with guilds who have left SSC behind, most of their new recruits are actually people who transfer in from other server - at least it feels like that has to be the case, considering the way my server has been bleeding raiders since release of TBC - in which starting out on a recommended server probably is a good idea. On the other hand, if you want to get really hardcore about it, you had better be ready to transfer then. Things to consider at that point is Battlegroup. For some tarded reason there's one battlegroup with only four servers in, which leads to long annoying queues. Tigheter community, no doubt, but that translates in practice to facing the same darn people over and over again. Boulderfist, my own server, is in the Misery battlegroup, and I have zero complaints on that aspect. And we fall into the "developing" server category as well. I use Omen as well because the "only show threat of current target" is so incredibly hawt whenever I decide to play dotdotdotdotdotGETITOFFMEdotdotdotdot. My guildmaster - who's insane enough to have a kickass warlock for DPS, a paladin for tanking and a hunter on the side, and all three rotates into raiding depending on what we need - however, claims KTM is handier for healing because it shows all your threat made at the main target. Bit of a non-issue for a warrior, but assuming it's true it bears thinking about for healers
  17. First of all, in listing historical powers you're completely ignoring the impact of technology. Being an international superpower when we have the means to transport people anywhere in the world within less than 24 hours is considerably different to being a superpower in a world that is flat, and that pesky continent over there just doesn't exist - period. The British Empire is the closest you came to listing a superpower that actually had a worldspanning reach, and I find it amusing you'd downgrade their significance while we're speaking the english language - it ain't my native tounge, and it certainly wasn't invented in the USA. How's that for spreading a cultural heritage? Second of all, you're deluding yourself if you think economic and military might aren't the biggest factors. You think american cultural elements are adopted in other places in the west because the cultural ideas are "superior"? Economic and military might spreads culture. Economic and military might is what makes people think "hm, maybe their way of doing things isn't so bad...". The USSRs idea of culture is easily illustrated by St. Petersburg, I mean Leningrad, I mean Stalingrad, waitdidIgetthatright? Yet you have no problem listing them as a superpower. A superpower is when you have the power to make suggestion to other nations, and they'll listen very closesly indeed. You think people do that because they can watch Fear Factor on TV, or because biggest military in terms of economic strenght stands behind the words?
  18. The more patriotic than democratic chitchat aside, as an apparently succesful result of the swedish public schooling system's goal of creating democratic citizens, it is is my sincere conviction that the "right" to vote is also a responsibility for every citizen in any nation that wishes to remain democratic. When enough people lean back and just let it slide because their "votes won't matter anyway", that's when a democratic system turns towards collapse into autocracy. I mean seriously, it's not like not voting at all is going to matter more than actually voting no matter how you look at it. Okay, maybe it might in the longrun, but not in a good way...
  19. Lol, sorry to dissappoint but not only am I alliance myself (*Human* Warlock, though I my first char ever was an orc warlock, but I never played him proper post-TBC), but the Boulderfist I play on is both located in Amsterdam and a part of the Misery Battlegroup. =P But the PvP is quite nice really. Unlike battlegrounds pre-TBC, I wouldn't any one side is dominating any of the battles. We win some, and we lose some. The once we lose mostly has to do with severe ineptitude on behalf of the alliance, but then again, we do win some. Particularly AV is, and was before the change, a fairly equal win/loss where the only real thing to consider was that if you lost the last AV and insta-joined, you were likely to lose that one as well. Speaking of AV, I love the new changes. It's blatantly obvious a lot of people havn't figured out exactly what it means and adapted their playstyle accordingly; I have had two games where we've killed their general when we've had less than 20 more hordies to kill, after some not-so-bright whiners cried about us defending rather than going south for 15 minutes. Doesn't take a genius to realize that holding those two final towers against horde aggression is a lot safer a way to win than to have a DPS race against the horde - especially when the two final non-burned towers are IW and SH and the horde held Aid Station before we had Frostwolf. Some people just.... And... uh... ahem... yeah. >_> Overall, 2.3 is a nice patch. The new dailies are a very nice addition, the BoJ's from Kara is just great (wandered of with 16 badges from a night of "hey, I know, let's do a Kara?", aside from finally getting the wand from Aran) and the new BoJ items, well, the general itemization on most of those sucks from a warlocks point of view, but they're still a nice addition. Oh, and speaking of sound files, try these; [hide]1. I was pure once. /script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\Ashbringer\\ASH_SPEAK_01.wav") 2. 20. I'd wager credit card companies both run with more cutouts that means not all fraudulent transactions will go through, and there's the whole illegality factor as well. You start nicking credit card numbers you're gonna piss off authorities. You nick a WoW password, sell the gold on the account of for a fair few dollars or euros, you piss of the guy with the computer and Blizzard's customer service. Doubt the police will ever hear of it.
  21. But harsher punishments serves as a more effecient deterrent? The USA has considerably higher prisonterm penalties across the board, yet last time I saw a number there was a 60% recidivism among former convicts within 3 years. Looking at the corresponding statistic for Sweden - who's general prison term penalties are so short I find them quite silly myself - the corresponding number is 40%. If longer prison terms is such a wonderful detterent, then how come? You want to avoid recidivism, you spent more efforts on readaption into society which benefits both the individuals who manage to readapt and society[/i] as a whole, as opposed to pleasing your personal sense of revenge. (And stumbling upon a what I'd personally deem a chinese propaganda site, they agree with me!)
  22. Oh c'mon... Who are you to tell some kid over the internet what to do with his own body? Besides, now I'm really curious >_>
  23. You named yourself after Honor Harrington, yet you don't see the parallells between surrendering your right to vote for money (or anything) and the Basic Living Stipend awarded to the Dolists that lead to the formation of the People's Republic of Haven? =P As some science-fiction writer once said; Science fiction is always about the present.
