  1. I actually ran a little experiment once. I bought a men's health magazine which was running several articles about how to make yourself more attractive to women. I showed it to my girl mates, and the response to the advice was ambivalent at best. I'll concede that some of the articles may have been written by women themselves. I'm also open to the idea that the articles were probably nothing more than product placement too. Generally, however, men aren't that good at recognizing what's attractive about themselves and other men to women, they only tend to have a fairly prescriptive list of what's attractive to their own "woman" at that point in time. At least, that's my personal experience.

So in that light, having female friends is definitely a plus. They might try and make you see things from their perspective, if you let them.

Now I'm thinking of Cosmo (and Cosmo-like magazines) and all the BS in them. Feels like there's a similarity there.

I'm going to go ahead and say that I know nothing about life.

I've never had anything bad happen to me, I've never been caught up in the omnipresent drug culture of my town, I've never even seen more than tiny glimpses of anything that isn't the sunshine-and-lollipops world my family and teachers wanted for me.

So it may come across as empty comfort from a vague acquaintance on the internet, but if there's anyone I would trust to deal with adversity, it's you. People tend to use the internet as catharsis, otherwise ordinary individuals sinking into bitterness, hate, and depravity in an environment where it can't come back to harm them; it sounds to me like you've pulled through worse shit than most- if not all- your fellow Harpies, and yet remain consistently kind and thoughtful. And it's clearly not just here, I mean, you've saved someone's life. That you've even managed to hold your own through the problems you've faced makes you a stronger person than I'll probably ever be, and that you still have as good a heart as you do makes you a better one, too.

Another thing I don't know how to do is help someone facing such issues, but I wanted you to know that- however little of a difference it might make- I believe in you, and hope that everything turns out alright.

Because this comment needs more then just a like from me.

  6. You didn't get the point...

High heels weren't the worst part. But her whole attitude, behaviour and looks were not what I expected to see. And she started talking some weird stuff.

I might have felt a bit intimidated unconsciously but I don't think so.

Your first post about this, the only thing you mention is high heels. Your next post starts off with "high heels and short skirt" and you implied it made her look like a [bleep](?) You weren't actually clear about that, the statement was very vague. THEN you start talking about how she acted.

Now, there could be a lot of context about how she acted that we're missing, but if nothing else you need to ask yourself why you would start your post here with basically "I was turned off because she wore high heels and a short skirt to this event when no other girl did." Your first two posts made it sound like at least half the problem was her outfit.
