  1. I combine things. I usually set one goal I work towards, just very slowly, and often slack off to do something else I feel like doing. Oh, and usually I try to do most things myself, unless the reward is really not worth it in terms of exp/money/fun/all earlier options together (spinning bs anyone?). I also don't care much about what others think about what I do. I have some decent stats, if I may say so myself, but no 99, unlike others of my lvl, because either a 99 in that skill is useless to me (I don't call bragging with a fletching cape usefull, neither just getting a skillcape while 99 offers no new possibilities), and/or because I don't feel like getting it. Lately I've been working to raise my crafting with green dhide*. To 99? No, just to 90. Why is that? Because I want to make my own fury, after acquiring an onyx gem by killing tzhaar and selling their drops. This is not productive, I would probably have made money selling those drops for gp and buying a fury, and saved myself tons of time not getting 90 crafting. But I felt like putting a goal that was not that easy to reach (I started at lv 65), but not just for a number in the highscores. And no, no one will know what I did, or be impressed by me wearing a fury, unless impressed by about 3m, but who cares? I know what I did for it, and I will remember the months of crafting and getting tokkul for this amulet everytime I put it on**. And it did take me months already, because I stop when I get bored, and go to do something else, or call it a day. But this keeps the fun in my game, and that's what a game is for, in my opinion. *For the record, I'm 100k into lv 87 now, and got some more than 1.2m exp to go. **Another note: I alch the bodies I make, and to do that I need nats. I get these by rcing with pure essence I mined myself ;) (refused to pay more than 100ea for such an easy to get material, so now I just don't buy it anymore).
  2. It will be nice, but I don't expect rs will turn into another game for me. The change will be fun for a while though, and discovering new reflections of the improved graphics too.
  3. First of all, good articles. I only currently joined a clan, and even just chatting while training a skill is a reason to have those around. But with the second article I don't agree completely. Sure, giving away presents to strangers or friends can make you feel nice, and help them. But why is it that people think that presents always have to consist of material wealth? Ok, you can't give your friend a santa hat as a christmas present anymore. But doesn't just helping him out give you the same feeling? Advice can sometimes be more valuable than any item on rs. In some cases, your advice on how to get money for a party hat will probably help your friend more than just giving it to him, for when he has that coveted paper hat, but wants the bones for 99 prayer now, he can just restart what you advised him to do. And sometimes, presents can even come in the form of actions. I was ranging some troll generals the other day when an unprepared lvl 71 walked in, hoping to complete the troll stronghold quest by killing a general himself. He was unaware of the fact that these monsters would tear through his armor with constant 20+ hits (up to 42, btw), and he could pray melee, nor range. So I gave him my spare food I brought just to be safe(under the trade limit), ranged a general to almost half hp and let his dragon long specials do the trick. I also showed him a spot where he could side step if taking several hard blows, enabling him to safely eat to full hp again. And with my help and advice, he succeeded. Sure, I didn't give him 200m, but he was happy with my help, and I was just as happy being able to help someone out. Edit: On a sidenote -Davidium:well i'm sure there are other alternatives to combat rwt...if jagex was determined and committed enough to get rid of rwt without harming the larger portion of runescapians im sure they can think of something, what with how advanced technology is becoming. - I too have mixed feelings about the updates, but it is kind of hypocretic to assume jagex can find better methods with their "advanced technology", when you can't think of them yourself. This is nothing personal, but I hope you (and others who think like this) can see my point.
  4. Again, the game might be screwed for some (relatively of course, even just 1 % of 5 million players is already 50000 ppl), but claiming the game is now totally broken lacks objectivity. And don't get this wrong, I too liked to help ppl out (sometimes with items that were more than 3k), and if I would start playing again I would probably think back about the time I could trade freely often. But now Jagex has gotten rid of most of the rwt and a massive amount of bots (I'm sure even the die-hard haters have to agree on that), they can have more people working on improving the game, and the new content (maybe even the hated bounty hunting will eventually attract many players, after some decent updates). And who knows, maybe after the dust has settled down, Jagex will see what can be done to increase the trade limit and restore some of the old parts of rs, without creating too much room for rwt again. This happens in real life too. For example, on a school with alot of problems that might come from being too lax about rules, the staff might suddenly impose new, drastical (and maybe even ridiculous) rules to make things more strict. If they feel their approach reaches results, they might again begin to allow a few things that were forbidden for a while. I don't say this WILL apply to runescape, I don't claim in any way to possess the gift of foresight, however, it's a possible scenario.
  5. Ok, I can understand what you're saying, but there's are two things in your post that bother me. First of all, the game may be (I don't say "is") ruined for you, but overall, the game is not yet ruined, just drastically changed. Runescape will only be ruined when an update is so menacing it forces, lets say, 75% of the members cancel their subscription. There are still enough ppl left that while obviously affected by the updates, don't see a reason to just quit right away. Some of those just wait for a month to see what comes of it (or till summoning comes), others decided for themselves they don't really mind the changes to a great extent. Secondly, you estimate that about 30-40% of the rs population consists of bad people, many of which scammers and bots, but just a little later on you say rwt didn't affect you. There are two options here: 1) You really were one of the lucky people that weren't affected 2) You fail to see the link between RWT and botting/scamming I myself am part of 1), because I relied on my own skills+high alch for most of my money (ruling out the bot-inflated prices of resources/products), and my skills were relatively high before bots started to seriously interfere with the training of some of them. However, I think it's safe to say that at least a quarter to half of those 30-40% you mentioned, acted to sell the money they made out of their cheating, for real $. So if unless you were part of 1) as well, but just didn't realise it, you too were affected by RWT, simply not directly. The one that sold the GS for the rwt'ers hard earned dollars, most likely didn't pick flax to be able to afford that sword himself, nor did those that just sell rs gold. P.S. This is nothing personal, but your post allowed me to express some of my opinions without having to rely on readers imagination too much.
  6. First of all, I stopped playing runescape half a year ago, still not sure if it will be for good, but I still look at the updates from time to time, and lately, doing so became quite interesting. Let's get on with it now. I have to agree with a_local_guy. For now, people should try to relax and see where this goes. And no, due to the nearly unlimited supply of variables, no one can predict what will happen. I know it must be hard dealing with these many changes at once, but if you glance at the new development diary, they would only have been really effective if they were implemented in quick succession. There you can also read just why Jagex did this (really not just to bug everyone). Even though you should always be a little sceptical, for it is normal that Jagex is a little subjective and might blow things a little out of proportion to add to their defense in this situation, it is obvious this has not been taken lightly, and was deemed absolutely neccesary. I have seen so many posts on so many forums that say: Jagex, you COULD do better, followed by some illogical or just plain idiotic idea, if followed at all. I have yet to see a decent alternative. For those that after reading this post still think: "Noob, shut up, idiots @Jagex ruined it big time, me and everyone I know is quittting!!!", stop looking at rs or related forums, get yourself to calm down, and maybe even cancel membership and let it sink down for a few months. Maybe the sheer shock will have dispersed, leaving you able to read the updates again, in a more objective way this time. Well, thats all I had to see, a good day to you all , and try not to let it get to you, that's useless anyway.
  7. my ingame name is 1stmessenger :D at first I wanted to make my RSN Dark messenger aswell, but it exceeded the 12 character limit, :? so I had to choose an alternative. As I dont like things like drkmsnger and stuff :P , I came upon this one. Though theres a number in it it has a meaning so I was, and have been up to now, content with 1stmessenger. Btw, dark messenger refers is the name of the song that plays while fighten Trance Kuja in Final Fantasy 9, I like it's ominous beginning. I believe Diablos' attack when you summon him in ff8 is also called dark messenger
  8. not a bad article, and maybe even better posts, but theres one thing id like to point out some of you talk about (i dont say support) altering or even deleting the free world so the autoers would have it harder or stop, because paying 5$ a month would ruin their profit? Depends, those that sell the rs gold they make from autoing for real money will just have a little less real world profit, some others would find a best way to deal with it (only use parts of their ingame profit to get their 5$ back) It may stop some, but not the smarter macroers, and maybe those would help their less-smart autoing friends get over it
