  1. There will always be lots of rumour and myth about this now but I wonder how much gp was actually converted to real money. I'm pretty sure if I was a bank manager and suddenly thousands of pounds started appearing in one of my clients accounts from china that I'd be pretty suspicious of something dodgy going on like laundering. It would appear that it was faster to dupe the cash than to actually get rid of it.

A few 10 thousand isn't really a lot.. I pay that yearly for university expenses...

  2. Well I actually need a real contact adress someday anyways - As a customer I have a right to speak a human instead of a machine if I don't get what I pay for.

Currently I watched the memory & processes: it seems that each time 2 new processes spawn when I open a page: "java" and "jp2launcher" both have as description "java platform".

  3. Well has been happening for a week or something now.. It indeed goes through after like a 20 tries.. But that shouldn't be the standard course of action I think?

If I could post a picture I would post this at the official forums for jagex to see, however can I mail them?

  4. Are you saying that they'll reopen the mechscape project, or make more games like transformers?

I can't phrase that properly. My point is, do you think they'll sell their resources to other companies and produce games that have a short lifespan, or will they cater to runescape's fanbase and produce similar games?

Jagex' main customer base (& hence expertise) is in the "runescape-ish" market. Selling away that customer base is never clever, it would basically set jagex back to step 0. It might give them a a good amount of money, but in the end it is just stupid. (and actually destroying of a market, the new company won't have the experience running runescape, and has to learn those things)..

But that was completely beside the point I'm saying. I'm saying that jagex should, if rs playerbase start shrinking, spent most efford into creating a new game. Something that can replace rs in the long term (10+ year planning).

  5. Just fyi: I was doing diamond bracelets & made quite a bit of profit..

But currently I have 5k phoenix necklaces that don't sell, and diamond bracelets don't buy at mid anymore..

This is something people always learn the hard way. If jewelry appears to be extremely profitable, it probably doesn't sell. I remember that one time I lost like 5m on dragonstone bracelets or something.

Well I was doing batches of 2k the other days and they always sold/bought overnight. Was a nice activity while waiting for dg floors. With these things you just have to react fast & hope no one else notices. Was my fault for not selling for a few days in a row :P.

  6. Hi there,

I'm looking for a method to train hunter - currently 76 & planning to get 80 someday. I'm not looking for something as fast as common jadinkos. But I'm looking for a method that gives most xp / click (considering I have mild rsi I need to take care not to do too click intensive activities like hunting too much). yet of course if it is only 5k xp / hour it's pretty wasteful.

  7. Why do people block -for example- gargoyles?

They have hardly any defense + you get the dmg boost from the ferocious ring. Only monsters that are faster are cannonables? Should also skip greater demons then I think? I personally always added hellhounds to the skip list; "no" charms & no drops make it too boring for me. And I'd rather spent some time with fun (gargoyle, I always aim to use the item as fast as possible) than spent money & have a boring time.

People block gargs because they are common and one of the tasks worth not doing. It's not so much an expression of how much they suck as a task, they're better than desert/jungle strykes for example, just that they are common and sub-par.

Hellhounds are really for pure xp/hr, they are twice as fast as gargs or something.

It's also possible task frequencies are affected by slayer level which might explain getting more jungle strykes than spirit mages.

I'd consider skipping kalphites if you haven't done do no evil.

    ^This, I think they are a bit over 50k xp/hr when maxed, maybe 55k.

isn't something like fire giants & greater demons than much more worth a spot in the block list? I fail to see how they are significantly faster xp than gargoyles - considering gargoyles can be found in kuradals dungeon (same as greaters) & don't have significant defense.. I'm not saying it's a good task, I just can't believe greaters are not skipped nor blocked & fire giants are "borderline" while gargoyles are definatelly blocked. (actually same for living rock caverns, they can even be cannoned & didn't they give more xp/hp?)

  8. I would honestly be pretty surprised if Runescape was still around by 2014.

    Wanna bet?

Seriously though, do you honestly believe that the game will be closed by 2014? From, let's say 500k members to closed in two years?

I don't think people realise that the only thing they NEED membership money for is server costs. Only when the amount of players gets so incredibly low that they can't afford them will the game be anywhere near closing down.

Then how do they pay employees?

You don't need that many employees if you're not producing content. The game will only shut down when the cost of maintaining the servers is more than their revenue. At that point, though, they could just scrap the idea of membership and fill the page with ads.

You would still need a good amount though. Customer support, public relations/legal, management, bug fixers and game maintenance, for example. As well as building security and maintenance as well. In addition, remember the surplus remaining after server costs must be high enough to give proper incentive for employees to accept their job. No one is going to run the game full-time if it's only turning minimum wage, which is another thing to consider.

Rent and utilities also come to mind.

I'm not familiar with the costs of running servers but it seems to me that even with a small employee base, their yearly salaries would be greater than the server cost, if not merely a significant aside.

Those costs can all be shared through more games. You don't need a customer support seperatelly for each game. Especially if a game isn't large. Jagex won't let RS die before they develop a new flagship (otherwise they would commit suicide).

Tortoises is another thing you might actually do. I'm not sure about current prices, but a year ago I earned 750K-1M hourly profit from those. Not a massive sum, but it's not neglectable either. On top of that their drops are perfect for me (I love "random drops" however I hate it when a monster has 1 top tier drop you just have to keep waiting for 100 kills). Lastly: I seem to be getting more jungle strykewyrm tasks (at 88 slayer) than spiritual mages (literary had only 1 task of mages them yet). So I think jungle strykewyrms & mages should be swapped?

  10. Cannon something in multicombat until you can use chins.

I feel like I should reiterate this. It's the only viable way to train range. Make money until you can afford 43 prayer and cannonballs/chins. Using iron knives anywhere is a terrible idea.

Wow, linear playstyle, much? What's the point in RS weaponry if everyone just uses 1 type of weapon? Jagex should already remove those? (Or finally start nerfing that cannon & chin xp to make it more comparable to other methods).

  11. Mod Edit: Please remember to stay on topic, thank you!

Many, many studies show it is exactly the same as gambling, there doesn't need to be a different thing for it. It is the same substance that releases: the feeling of joy & accomplishment.

  12. I love how you contest something that is "proven" in various studies. It is like christians contesting evolution & the big bang, utterly ridiculous.

Anyway the reason why it gains so (too?) much attention nowadays, is because it is a growing & hardly visible addiction. An addiction that is little known about & very hard to solve. Only real way is to remove someone from internet/gaming completely for several years, but that is not possible in the current social circumstances. The addiction is similar to gambling addiction (actually one can argue it is equal), when you "gain" something your body releases several substances. These give a feeling of pleasure & satisfaction. However when you are addicted, you can't live without those, and you aim constantly to gain those substances.

Being a professional has little importance in this: professional gaming is so far & few inbetween, and they have no social influence as such small group that talking about them is in combination with addiction is pointless. Addiction is a serious problem, growing with the growth in those games that actually AIM to give this sense of feeling (most small games actively persuade & strengthen the addiction by giving constantly a small amount of satisfaction, immediately followed by a promise for more). That is a problem: where gambling can be regulated & people can be simply not allowed access; it is not possible for gaming addiction with internet being so prominent. Remember an addiction is a problem because the addicted can't get away from it by himself - he has to be forced by the outside to do.

It's also stupid to say that addicted people are "depressive" like many people are addicted to smoking, it simply means you can't go on without gaining something in a game.

  13. Considering primal plate isn't that much better than hood

That's not true. Primal plate is much, much more comfortable in almost every situation. Prom plate is also better than hood for the most part (afaik). Gorg is sort of borderline...

Most of the time is spent doing puzzles or rushing paths in normal dungeons, not really clearing gds. In that case no hood means you're hit by anything & everything walking around. When I still had no hood, yet promethium platebody I immediately saw my survivability shoot up when I got the hood, and in effect even the floor clear time did grow (consider emote & lever rooms).

I'm not certain about the health regen of the necklace, but I can't believe it is enough to keep you alive over a prolonged time.

  14. To everyone thats mad about the squeal advertisements by Jagex employees. You are acting like Jagex was helpful at some point in time

Granted they've never been helpful but never been forcing rwt advertisements down our throats in un-related forum posts until now either. Guess the IVP monster is getting hungry for more player cash again, there greed is insatiable it seems

it's not for nothing there are lots of votes to make private investors like ivp an illegal practice in the netherlands (only holding back is that some companies would still sell out & just move away). The are never healthy for a company as they work on short term. And in short term innovation is meaningless, as such if many companies fall victim the economy suffers on the long term.

  15. I love how you consider low level players to not be "worth anything". They ALSO work for their drops: and their drops should to jagex mean just as much as drops from higher level players. Maybe it doesn't influence you as much as a spirit shield. But the person who tries to farm for say whips and suddenly notices jagex sells those; that's terrible.

You're missing the point. Earning a divine at average income is at least 50 hours. Earning a whip at low level income is like 5 MAX (probably less, probably more like 1). There is a difference, on the economy, etc, whether you like it or not.

Yes on the economy. However jagex should (with their decisions) stand above the economy; they should make game design based decisions. The in game economy is always secondary. From a design standpoint an hour is an hour played. And while someone who plays 10 years earns more in an hour, an hour playing for someone who just started is equally valuable as one hour from someone who constantly farms kiln.
