Tip.It Times Tip.It Times - 2nd September 2012 - 200th Publication!

Interesting to see the reasons for the genders chosen. I am male in rl, and switched my character from male to female for the famous "no man can defeat" quest. Since the money was substantial to me at the time (10k gp to switch back, I believe?) -- I then left it that way. I was female for almost a year, and found it a very interesting experience. I had a fair number of male avatars hit on me and some offer me presents, and had two female avatars also show interest. At least at that time, I could see a pretty strong difference to how I was treated in game, and enjoyed the feeling of seeing the world through someone else's eyes. Finally turned back to male when my son brought in a screen shot of me to school, to brag about how high his father could hit in RS. I pictured the kids telling their parents about my female character, chickened out, and switched back. :P cheers, beo -
sorry for the repeat post -- this seems to be the right spot, tho... Up until now, I was firmly on Jagex's side in the war against RWT. But 3k every 15 mins?!???? Please tell me how you will do law running, sell a whip outside the "official price" to quick raise cash, or -- for me the killer -- give my kids a present now and then? Ok, everyone is grumbling, but there is a sense of fatalism here which is pathetic. If all the fan sites (you know who you are -- runehq, zybez, tip.it and 2-3 more) would organize, we could bring Jagex to their knees. First, a protest march. Let's say in an empty world, a silent march of supporters from Varrock to Fally. Second, ratchet up the pressure. An allout call from the fansites for a two week boycott of memberships. Cancel your membership, and when it runs out don't renew for two weeks. Spend the time mining iron on a non-member world near Varrock; or raise your runecrafting with two weeks of fast, free airs on world 16. Plenty of things to do on non-members, and after two weeks you will remember why you liked members in the first place. I guarantee, two weeks of that sort of cash flow loss will take Jagex completely off guard. Third, nominate representatives -- one from each fan site -- to negotiate in good faith with Jagex. Yes to fighting RWT; no to eliminating friendship via unbalanced trades! The levers of power are at hand. Fan sites make an effective leadership and communication tool. Real life labor movements would have killed for these advantages. Is tip.it content to whine, or will they join in an organized movement to represent the masses on RS? beo

thanks, Cardo I usually play without sound due to the firefox bug. From now on with dragons I'll switch to sound : -)

Port Phasmatys stocks 50 as well if you are willing to pay 10gp (close to a bank, but far from everything else :-)

and is there any way to know when the potion has worn out?

Most posts on this topic suggest Mystic over Split as a general rule, which is not intuitive to me. Can be that I don't understand the way attack bonus and defence bonus works, but I haven't found a link that explains it mathematically..... I chose split because I like to fight a variety of creatures, and thought having defence against only magic didn't make sense. Is the point that my attack bonus cancels out the enemy's defence? What is the value of having defence only against magic? If anyone could guide me to a link that properly explains what attack and defence bonuses actually do, I would be grateful. tx, Beo

I just experienced the ultimate: Was killing a few Ogres, and was asked my age. Answered 41, and was told: a) We don't believe you B) You have nerve playing this game -- it's for kids c) You should be ashamed to be playing this (but we still don't believe you) Reminded me of the Trix commercials ("Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids" :-) And when I explained that my kids suckered my into it, the conversation just got worse :-)

tx -- I missed the part about selling the scrolls in the tips (did sell the necklace, though). Good to know that a) I get a warning not to dump something useful; and B) that I can rely on tip.it's tips. That makes me feel better, and I'll start my spring cleaning now : -)
-
ok, now I freely admit I am paranoid. I went to drop the scrolls from the Shiloh Village quest, and I got a message "these are valuable, are you sure?" -- or something like that. Does anyone have any knowledge of reasons not to drop these scrolls? tx, Beo

thanks, sheepdean. You take the view of my son, and I suspect you both are right. But just to probe further, a concrete example: My key for Shiloh Village quest: tip.it says I don't need it, but maybe I'll want to fight those monsters again (not to mention my blurite sword). Have you never, ever had a situation where you wished you had saved a quest item? and I admit that, if you took a look at my attic, you would conclude the real issue is that I am a compulsive saver : -) Beo

For the umpteenth time, my bank is full! What with my (complete) seed collection, fine wardrobe of clothing, and leftovers from members quests ("you never know when you'll need it"), I can barely shove in a lobby. It seems the best to dump are the quest items, but I need a Wise Old Man for p2p who can tell me what is no longer needed. Any advice on how to get a list of no longer required members quest items? thanks, Beowulf
