  1. Nope, it's not racism. I think it's kind of a pig-headed thing to say that you're not attracted to a specific race in a blanketed statement, but it's not racist at all.
  2. I think one thing he could be remembered for is forever killing the Republican Party of the late 20th to early 21st century (Reagan and on). The Republican party could possibly splinter after this election into 3 separate factions: neon-cons, social conservatives, and the fiscal conservatives. Each one wants to go in another direction, and this election is showing the massive strain that the party is currently under. Party leaders are criticizing Palin every which way (Romney's people), because Romney wants to face Palin in 2012 (at least this is my expectation). The Evangelicals are a large base, but half of them are voting Democrat this election. McCain is killing the fiscal conservatives because of his budget freeze/buying all subprime mortgages. He's sitting well with neo-cons. The party is in complete disarray because of this election and choosing of Palin. However, what caused this in-fighting is everyone vs. George Bush and Karl Rove.
  3. Was that article by Christopher Walken? I don't really know. But while it was well-written, all it was was someone [bleep] about others' beliefs. I'm sure to the writer or anyone that agrees with it it's a hard-hitting and factual argument, but it really is just whining about her beliefs. I mean, Obama used to belong to a crazier church than what they say Palin once attended. Ah well. It's always common for reporters to say everyone's taking a low road while they criticize however they can. I did like some of the stuff that talked about how crappy and low in general this year's campaign is, though. It was written by Christopher Hitchens, a known Neo-conservative. He endorsed Bush in 2000 and 2004. No church tops fundamentalist Christians that bring in Jews for Jesus and witch doctors, sorry. Attacking anyone on the grounds of their church is kind of stupid to begin with, but he's attacking the church's beliefs in a young Earth, not necessarily the church itself.
  4. Wow, what a load of spam. Anyway, as much as I cannot stand Christopher Hitchens, here is why the Republican ticket is anti-science:
  5. But you're a Christian...wtf Have you even read any of what Jesus said? Yes. I' don't pretend to be perfect. I don't think 9/11 is something I can turn the other cheek to and if giving someone who has already plotter the murder of thousands a dunk in water for less than a minute can potentially stop another attack or help us capture Bin Laden I would say go for it. Another typical American fallacy. Let me tell you something: as much as Barack harps about catching Bin Laden, I think he's either a.) pandering to get elected or b.) being just as idiotic about this as many other Americans. I seriously doubt it's the latter. Capturing Bin Laden will do nothing, and killing him could be even worse. You want to end terrorism? Stop it at the source: end their recruitment.
  6. The irony...it's just too much to bear
  7. No they didn't, most of them stayed, but weren't recognized as citizens. The loyalists (you) were the ones that didn't want to change the country and wanted to stay the course. So that is what I meant when I said that in essence, my ideals are more American than yours: following the belief of changing the country despite the opinions being unpopular. Why does that matter? Torture is never a problem among Republican Christians...so long as it's against those dirty Muslim terrorists.
  8. This country was founded on the belief of unpopular dissenting opinions. In case you didn't know, the Revolutionary War was not a popular idea, and it only became slightly plausible after Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty, or give me death" speech. The majority of colonists were loyalists. So don't tell me "If you don't like it leave", when my beliefs are more "American" than yours (if anything can actually be labeled as "American").
  9. Wrong. I hate the arrogance of Americans celebrating nationalism and encouraging the thought that America is the greatest country on Earth that can do no wrong. The blind patriotism. America's breed is the worst...Australia's might be close. As far as my observations have taken me, you guys are far and above number one when it comes to patriotism. We Aussies don't even come close. Sure, we love our country and celebrate it every year (Jan. 26th), but the blind part that you (and I) detest isn't really here as much. Oh yes, we are far far far above you. By close, I meant you might be in second place, but I could be wrong about that too. Lol.
  10. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=749062&p=5881351&hilit=Nationalism#p5881351 That's the thread he's talking about.

  12. Well, considering they own most of the wealth, I'd say it's pretty fair. Furthermore, I'm not interested in what's fair, I'm interested in what's right. Right and wrong are ultimately relative concepts, but I find it absolutely incredible that in the richest country in the world there are people living in poverty. This just should not be the case. No one in the world should be living in poverty, but people are too quick to say, "That's mine, not yours, go get your own."
  13. You know, the fact that people live worse somewhere else doesn't justify the social inequality in your country. Comparing an economic power like the US with the poorest countries in the world is just mediocre. Of course it's great your poor people aren't doing as bad as they could, but Magekillr is only pointing out the serious need to close social gaps. Correct.
  14. I expect her to listen to her cabinet...if she were President. What is the point of advisers if you don't listen to them? There's also a difference between being egotistical, and being egotistical without having the know-how to back up your ego.
  15. I'll agree to disagree. Anyway, the McCain campaign is falling apart...because of Palin and her enormous ego. She actually believes she can run the country. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/25/ ... pstoryview Yes, this is what we need from a possible President...someone that doesn't take advice from others.
  16. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 09925.html Had enough yet? So you'll believe Scott, you say? I mean, when Scott came out with his book you certainly were singing a different tune. Speaking of Scott, he endorsed Obama.

  18. I never said he was a creationist, but to leave it up to the school districts about whether or not that they teach creationism is just as bad. I say he's anti-science by these interviews: http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080903/ ... 5446a.html http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080923/ ... .1125.html http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080903/ ... 5446a.html He also mocked Obama's pork for the planetarium in Chicago that has educated millions.
  19. And Obama won't do the same thing? McCain is alot more left than you would think, but running for president you have to represent your party as a whole. Nope, he won't. Did you read the differences in their interviews with scientific publications? McCain is completely anti-Science. Why do you single out evolution? I'm sorry that it's only the single greatest thing that has come to Biology...
  20. I said Republicans, I said nothing about McCain. He supports stem-cell research, fine. However, he wants to leave teaching evolution/ID up to the local school districts. He is also "against ear marks", many of which include scientific research like this.
  21. She is the one claiming to be an expert on special needs children--said research could be the key to understanding this. Furthermore, if you don't know whether or not research is "important", you shouldn't be making ignorant claims about it ( I know you agree with me, so it's ok). The Republicans and their anti-science days are about to come to an end.
  22. Anyone who is interested in Genetics, or biology will get a real kick out of this. Ginger, I know you're Pre-med, so this should make your blood boil: Without the fruit fly, we would have nowhere near the understanding of genetics that we do today. How can anyone justify this woman? :wall: How could anyone mock Drosophila research?
  23. Shadowfax hit it quite nicely, there's no reason to work, in a communistic country. Also, Communism is an idealist thing, as are most Democrats, everyone thinks it's a good idea, but it's never really worked. That's why I said theoretical beliefs. In reality, I support socialism and capitalism mixed...where the government has part ownership on production.
  24. A word of advice. BAE don't [bleep] around. You step out of line once during the selection process, and you can kiss the job goodbye. There's a local base near Preston, where some people from my high school applied for an apprenticeship. A couple were late for their interviews by about 2 or 3 seconds, and they were turned down at the door. If she says email her in November, email her next Saturday. ;) Hmmm, thanks for the tip. She seemed really interested when she gave me her email. I also think I stand a better shot because she said they're desperate for people out in Mojave, California. No one that was offered the job to go there last year took it...people don't make any sense. When I told her I'd be willing to go anywhere they wanted, she sounded extremely excited. Working for BAE is my dream job...or Boeing/Airbus. BAE seems like the best option as they have an office located in Sweden, though. I wish the US was bigger with apprenticeships... get paid to earn your degree, and have a guaranteed job? (although taking longer) Back to the topic :
  25. I don't think it's abused as much as you'd like to think, that's a small minority. Anyway, I know that THAT degree can't work in a country as large as the US, but it can still be more socialist than it is (a lot more). I know I can't get what I want here, and even as much as I work for it, it cannot happen (in this life time). It's why I want to get an internship this summer with BAE systems, as they have a headquarters located in Sweden. If I work for them for a little bit, hopefully moving to Sweden will be as easy as 1,2,3. I already talked to the interviewer, and she told me to email her in November.
