I should go Muscowy just to counter-balance you :P

LOL. Btw is that island Okinawa? It's Ryuku, so just declare war (colonial war), and conquer/annex it. They're pagan religion so you get only ~0.6 infamy from it haha. Oh, and are you sure you want to play as Japan? You'll be completely removed from all the action until the 1700s or so. @Trol: Almost all those tiny nations in France are your vassals from the start, so you can just diplomatically annex them.

Missions, events, new casus belli, spheres of influence. Some other stuff I can't remember. @Retech: :P

I don' think it was ever changed. Maybe though. You can just fire up a game and check the national decision bar for Sicily. If it's there you can...if not no.
-
Sicily can't form Italy btw.

http://www.direct2drive.com/8827/product/Buy-Europa-Universalis-3:-Heir-to-the-Throne-Download PM me your email retech. Oh and you and Dungeonal are gonna be beating the crap out of each other non-stop for dominion over Italy hehehe

Ah well, the times they are a' changin'! I think I'll be Georgia for this game. Second choice would be Hungary.
-
Yea that's working as designed. It stops people from say colonizing all of South America by 1500. What do you mean? Brandenburg is a good choice. Seems very interventionist, and with an interest in keeping a balance of power (aside from your own country, of course :P )

Tuturial is broken, check youtube for a better one. Black flags, idk. Try deleting the files in the cache folder and restarting the game.

How does mercy, justice, and freedom not occure naturally? Freedom is everywhere in nature. A wolf is free...it can roams the plains all it wishes as long as it gets enough food to feed itself. You can argue that that's not freedom...but c'mon, if that's the case then freedom does not exist at all. Mercy is a bit of a harder one, but it could be argued that when predators stalk a herd they don't take down the strongest and most supple animal from it, but the weak and infirm. However misguided, it could easily be seen as a mercy to kill those creatures swiftly rather than just let thim wither away from disease or malnushiment (I know they go after the weakest/smallest for fear of injury, but if we're looking at this whole situation from an impassionate technical standpoint then killing the weak and infirm is technically a splash of mercy in the wild) Justice is ost likely an entirely human concept, which brings us back to my original point, in that an 'original idea' does not exist anymore. If you were to explain to me justice right now...it wouldn't be an original idea, because somebody had already thought of it. Obviously it's this whole discussion is pointless as is the whole idea of the impossibility of an original idea, since anything you explain as an original idea can simply be countered with 'and most likely somebody already though of that', and so it ultimately falls into the category of 'what is the meaning of life?' which as most likely you have already asked yourself that question, you've already discovered that you will never discover the answer, and so it is a pointless conumdrum do bother yourself with. *hits gavel* (not gavrill) post rife with mis-spellings. I don't give a [bleep]. Gonna go down another brew and pass out.

Arch you're a madman. Where would we be without you? :P

Alright, 8 people interested, so I figure we should probabaly pick our nations now, gives a chance for people to fire up the game and play around with their nation of choice and get a feel for it. I definitely won't be picking one of the big nations, since I probably have the most experience with EU3 and it would be a bit unfair. Everything is fair game for everyone else I suppose ('cept maybe Dungeonal, but I can't really impose arbitrary restrictions on him) Here are the nations again: England (good colonization opportunities, somewhat isolated) France (big expansion opportunities, large manpower & production rich provinces) Castille (can form Spain, a quick jump over to North Africa, good colonizer) Austria (HRE, can become Emperor easily, good expansion opportunities) Muscowy (Good opportunities for expansion, but some hard fighting at the beginning against the Golden Horde) Poland (start with Lithuania in a personal union with them, if you can inherit Lithuania it can become a real powerhouse) Sweden (somewhat isolated, can form Scandinavia) Ottomans (good missons for Balkan expansion, good strategic positon [bosporus]) Decent countries: Denmark (good trading, start leading a personal union with Sweden and Norway, good luck holding onto it though..) Brandenburg (HRE, can become Emperor, later can form Prussia) Teutonic Order (rather precarious, but if played right can become a powerhouse) Hungary (Balkan expansion, will have to deal with Austria, Poland-Lithuania, and Ottomans though) Japan (decent colonization prospects, can strike at Ming with impunity as long as they maintain a good navy) Timurids (huge, massive army, but incredibly unstable) - tribal government eek Golden Horde (massive army, but has to deal with Muscowy & other christian nations in Eastern Europe) - tribal government eek Portugal (good colonization opportunities, but Castille/Spain will kick their ass if they get in a war with each other) Miland/Naples: Can form Italy, Miland is in the HRE, Naples is sort of isolated (end of the boot) Byzantine Empire (lots of cores that can be reconquered, can become a powerhouse easily, but only after some hard fighting) Novgorod (not quite as good as Muscowy, but can still form Russia and doesnt have to deal as much with the golden horde) Holland (can form the Netherlands, good sliders for massive trading empire/colonization...france will steamroll you though if you get in a war) ----- I'm actually getting quite excited about the prospect of this game, considering the different alliances and political backroom deals that will go on. Should be fun!

Wait, how did we colonize an entire planet if Jen is the only female crew member? I am still technically the captain, so...giggity giggity
-
hooray for aje!
-
Yea we'll figure something out that works for everyone. Won't start until like February 5th or around there, since that's when my new computer is arriving. Gives people a chance that haven't played the game before to familiarize themselves with how things work and those who have time to shake off the rust.
-
Wouldn't that be incorrect considering that somewhere someone had to have the first original idea? No such thing as an original idea.
-
Probably around 80 hours or so. We'd do it on a specific date for a set period of time every week, then whoever is hosting saves the game at the end of the session and uploads it somewhere for everyone to download and stick in their save folder.

Oman is actually not too bad, good sliders for westernization. Hedjaz is [cabbage] though.

For reference: The Big Countries: England (good colonization opportunities, somewhat isolated) France (big expansion opportunities, large manpower & production rich provinces) Castille (can form Spain, a quick jump over to North Africa, good colonizer) Austria (HRE, can become Emperor easily, good expansion opportunities) Muscowy (Good opportunities for expansion, but some hard fighting at the beginning against the Golden Horde) Poland (start with Lithuania in a personal union with them, if you can inherit Lithuania it can become a real powerhouse) Sweden (somewhat isolated, can form Scandinavia) Ottomans (good missons for Balkan expansion, good strategic positon [bosporus]) Decent countries: Denmark (good trading, start leading a personal union with Sweden and Norway, good luck holding onto it though..) Brandenburg (HRE, can become Emperor, later can form Prussia) Teutonic Order (rather precarious, but if played right can become a powerhouse) Hungary (Balkan expansion, will have to deal with Austria, Poland-Lithuania, and Ottomans though) Japan (decent colonization prospects, can strike at Ming with impunity as long as they maintain a good navy) Timurids (huge, massive army, but incredibly unstable) - tribal government eek Golden Horde (massive army, but has to deal with Muscowy & other christian nations in Eastern Europe) - tribal government eek Portugal (good colonization opportunities, but Castille/Spain will kick their ass if they get in a war with each other) Miland/Naples: Can form Italy, Miland is in the HRE, Naples is sort of isolated (end of the boot) Byzantine Empire (lots of cores that can be reconquered, can become a powerhouse easily, but only after some hard fighting) Novgorod (not quite as good as Muscowy, but can still form Russia and doesnt have to deal as much with the golden horde) Holland (can form the Netherlands, good sliders for massive trading empire/colonization...france will steamroll you though if you get in a war) Those are basically the nations people should pick if they want to not get stomped on instantly.

Could probably just change the checksum to the steam versions. Or could email steam support to explain the situation. Very silly that it requires the steam version of EU3 complete.
-
You should post your issue on the Paradox forums then, since yourcomputer should easily be able to run it.
-
Yea its not tied to steam, and steam players will probably have to move the game to a new folder and start from there since there's compatibility issues between steam and non-steam versions. I'll post a tutorial later (its nothing complex)
-
Then go to friends->add a friend 'kapttorbjorn'
-
Get on steam and accept the friend request.
