  1. That was a pretty lame BTS, but I suppose there isn't a lot of detail they can share. I think some of those things they try not to share, and something so simple really doesn't have a lot else.

I hope we do manage to complete it, and I hope player choice has some impact on what the final outcome looks like for Lumbridge.

  2. A good balance requires that there are enough ways to win, those ways conflict, so that you can't bring both, and that they have a cyclical relationship.

You can still sometimes metagame it out, but it is more interesting.

See: Magic the Gathering competitive formats when it is healthy for an example of properly balanced games with many different ways to go about winning.

  3. Azzanadra is unlikely, but any of the "zamorakian" ones might, most obviously Zemouregal.

One of the Armadyl body guards sounded like he was displeased with Armadyl.

I do hope the godless attempt to kill a god.

Also, don't forget that there are a lot of lower tier gods around, that weren't invited. Don't the desert pantheon count?

I just had a hilarious thought: what if this is their excuse of a way to properly kill off Brassica Prime?

  4.

    The prestige system wasn't out.

I thought they indefinitly postponed the current prestige system because of player backlash. I think I read on the fourms that one of the mods admitted it was a mistake and vowed to change it.

Anyway, I started playing right before the RS2 launch and I thought the game kinda sucked until RS2 released. The community was better UNTIL about 2006. Then came the bots, the scammers, the cheaters, ect. The community was horrible until free trade was removed, then it drastically improved. Then free trade was reintroduced and it declined again.

Noting the day of his post you will realize that they had not made that clear yet. It was just the blog, and the thought was it would come out regardless. The poll and backlash happened after Fallstar's post.

  5. It really is a prisoner's dilemma here.

Sliske probably won't give up the Stone of Jas, but he may have it. This means some gods will go after him directly, others won't. But there is a chance that he is telling the truth (after all, he did give us the key to save Death, keeping true to his word).

If you do *nothing*, then someone will likely kill you. If you go after Sliske alone, you will likely be backstabbed, and/or he might defeat you. No one actually knows how powerful Sliske is. He does have the Staff, and he also potentially has the stone. Plus he has proven mastery of the shadow realm. He was able to capture a dragonkin, and Death (though Death may not have been that difficult).

If you go after any of the gods, you're playing into whatever twisted plan that Sliske has. But some of the gods will have war anyways.. not to mention the gods can hardly keep this a secret, and Sliske appears to be willing to award the Stone to a mortal. How many of the Majjarat will attempt to kill a god?

With the fact that Majjarat, and Bandos are probably willing to go to bat against some of the weaker gods... the higher tier gods will likely want to prevent them from winning just to prevent them from getting the stone.

With all these facts... there really isn't a good choice to team up and take Sliske out. There are just too many variables.

Just create different types of Wilderness PvP, release them over time on different servers and see which ones win out with the players.

    1. Bounty system - Players that want to PvP must pay a fee based on their current combat level to be able to attack players in the wilderness. If you don't pay, you can't attack but you can still be attacked and killed. Your killer gets 90% of this fee on your death. Another option is a higher fee extends your ability to attack higher up into the wilderness. People with bounty activated appear differently on the radar.

    2. Timeout system - Safe PvP in the wilderness, but if you're killed you can't attack other players for 5 minutes. You'll still be able to enter and get attacked during that time though.

    3. Mixture of #1 and #2 in that players only lose the bounty, being killed gives a reattack timeout. The bounty can be modified to limit your inventory of weapons so if you pay more you can wield more.

    4. Target locators - Paying a fee, your radar shows people you're able to attack that are risking a minimum amount of wealth. Higher fees can extend the radar coverage (maybe even with arrows).

    5. Multiway combat only

    etc, etc, etc.

Jagex has the servers. Offer up choices and let the best idea win out.

That would be viewed as a lot of wasted development time. In addition, it would fragment the players early which is the exact opposite of what a good PvP solution needs to do. You need more people in a PvP area, not less spread out over multiple servers.

Unless you know the way to get all PvP and PvM into the wilderness and keep them there with the best update ever, then I don't see it that way. Jagex makes changes to the combat system or wilderness, tweaks it slowly but for the most part leaves it as they made it, then stares at wonder at the slow exodus of PvP. They're going for the super idea that pleases the most and it just isn't working.

Instead, create some PvP/Wilderness test platforms on a few servers and watch how the players react. If more players seem to partake the server that has a bounty system, Jagex can lean in that direction. If more players like the free for all set-up vice wilderness levels, aim to toward that. On those worlds not catered to PvP or test platforms, Jagex can bring back the revenants modified to work better with EOC even though you can still attack other players in the wild.

Basically, stop trying to second guess what makes a good Wilderness. Most of us don't really know outside of our limited sphere of experience. Instead, let the masses decide with their actions. Jagex can track it and adjust accordingly.

You missed my point. Creating all these test servers and having them accessed simultaneously does not work. A good PvP solution requires not just interesting mechanics but players to compete against. If you release 5 different servers, players will be fragmented. You won't be able to get the information out there as to which has players. Even if you do, people will likely go to whichever has players first, and not be able to express their like and dislike.

Putting them out as tests in serial will not work well either due to time constraint of actual update. You might be able to get some information from the test servers but I don't know how relevant it would be.

In this case, fragmentation during the test phase would cause an inaccurate gauge of interest. Plus it is a lot of overhead work to find a good solution, especially if you want something that is capable of being tested by the playerbase, not just internally.

Interesting. And I agree, seasonal highscores makes a lot more sense..

The main downside being that it doesn't resolve the other issue (re-invigorate lower level areas and resources)

The second downside is that seasonal highscores aren't "permanent" meaning that the ranks disappear afterwards. That's not so bad though.

Your rank is permanent on the seasonal high score(s) that you competed on.

Yes, but this has the same issue as prestige highscores not being the "default" in that it is not easy to find. Most of the point of ranks is to have other people see your "achievements". In addition, while your rank for a particular season is permanent, that season is still not the same as a lifetime highscores.

  8.

Don't know if its been mentioned here yet, but they've decided to put the prestige system up to a vote. I'm kind of annoyed at that because it'll mean that 34% of people voting no could prevent me from enjoying it.

Consider making a second account or subjecting yourself to the limitations that the prestige system would present. You aren't losing anything except for the possibility for a good rank in a hiscore table that very few people care about. If that is what you enjoy about the prestige system, consider competing in a seasonal hiscore.

Have you seen the seasonal highscore?

It's like kill imps, kill cows, widly pvp kills, solo kill god wars boss. Seasonal highscores is a joke.

I just can't see what all the whining and [bleep]ing is about for this update.

It's just a new highscore and a way for vets to get some cosmetics and some more replay value out of the game.

    It's an addition.

Nothing is taken away, their even leaving the current high score so the no-lifers can still show off their merit badge.

I think fanboys of the old high scores and their no-lifer heroes need to get over it.

I am suggesting that they *add* xp highscores that reset every few months to the seasonal highscores, not just competing in the current available ones.

That said, I actually have no real issue with the prestige system myself.

  9. I think the idea that you can use repair kits with degredation that doesn't destroy the item would be more accepted by most players than the current "degrades into dust". Yes the end result would be the same (repair kits cost the same amount overall, assuming economy works and they're made at % values of resources to enable same cost). But it would *feel* better to more players.

  10. Just create different types of Wilderness PvP, release them over time on different servers and see which ones win out with the players.

  11. Agreed. Buying XP with spins is possible but it is *ridiculously* expensive. The lamps aren't even worth it at lower levels, and in addition, it is somewhat random, but you can get hundreds of xp per hour. Note there is a daily cap on the amount of spins you can get per day as well, so you can't just completely power through it.

  12. Interesting. And I agree, seasonal highscores makes a lot more sense..

  13. Somethings I understand, some I don't  just got a few questions.

If I prestige combat how does somebody else know the difference between my main combat and my prestiged combat without looking it up?

Can I only prestige all my combat stats at once or can I one by one (For example prestiging defence then doing slayer naked with 99 att/str kinda defeats the point of being 1 defence as it's super easy with soul split/turm)

Are prestige highscores going to be the default highscores from now or will Lifetime xp as it'd seem a shame for the people who have got 200m in a skill for them not to be shown first priority over the new system.

    a) likely your visible combat will only show in game as your combat with current stats (prestiged or not, depending on their current state). You can't change anywhere but bank areas so there's no need to worry about changing combat stats mid PvP or PvM situations. Effectively when you prestige you fully reset your stat.

    b) likely you can reset one stat at a time. I do wish all combats would reset at once, but they most likely won't do it.

    c) prestige highscores will be default. but you will be able to view lifetime xp highscores also.

  14. Can someone answer me this properly...

Say I'm all 99s, I reset my Attack to 1, I can still then wield the strongest weapon as I've already got 99, so tell me, what is the actual point of resetting it to 1? Is it literally so you can just "level" up again despite the leveling up actually being a cosmetic level?

No. Unless you revert to 99 again (undo the prestige.) you can't equip the higher level stuff.. You can go back. But if you do you can't gain xp on the prestige set. This way you actually have to use some lower level items and equipment. Ofcourse you still have the money and don't have to reset all levels at once so you do have some advantages.

  15. I doubt that will be the lore twist, but that would be neat. (deluxe barrows brothers)

It does seem quite interesting, though the BTS videos often can be pretty bland.

I am interested in hearing the voices.. too bad they don't usually go back and voice old dialog also.
