Huge pet food recall. Is your pet in any danger?

Featured Replies

Pet owners were worried this weekend that the kibble in their cupboard may be deadly after the recall of millions of containers of dog and cat food sold at major retailers across North America.

Menu Foods, the Ontario-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold under 46 brands and cat food sold under 37 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.

An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said.

Many stores that sold the affected brands frantically pulled packages off shelves.

At a Petsmart store in Union, Silviene Grzybowski became worried when the four types of Iams products she buys for her cat, Smokey, had vanished from shelves. The cat was very sick and had not been eating for days, she said.

"The vet told us to buy her her favorite food, but I'm going to call the vet right now," Grzybowski said, looking at an announcement Petsmart had taped to shelves announcing the recall.

A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates was available from the Menu Foods Web site ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ã

Me doing staff.

I have already checked my dogs stuff, only the little one's (the picky eater) food was bad, she is okay though, as it says the contaminated food was not sold in California, but we're not going to feed her it anyway. My labrador eats "Natures Recipe" stuff, because he will east anything, so he is fine. But the daschuand had some of the little foil packaged things with the gravy and stuff.

Diamond Pet Foods has recalled 19 brands of dog and cat food for being contaminated with aflatoxin, a naturally occuring toxic chemical by-product of the fungus Aspergillus flavus, on corn and other crops.

That was what MSNBC had to say about it.

I wouldn't take the risk, because that's just it. There is no way to visually tell which paket is good and which is bad, until it is after you can do anything. You could try taking the food back to the petstore, it is a recall, afterall. Or you can call this number and they will tell you what to do: 1-866-895-2708

My cat isnt affected, none of her food is recalled. but to blue107, If i were you, dont take a chance. they have linked it to at least 10 pet deaths and many more kidney failures.

although it is interesting to see how many different brands of food, which each claim to be different and charge more or less, are actually made by the same people.

We feed our cat the budget stuff, no worries I guess.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Fortunately I don't have a pet.

Lucky my cat is so fat, i have to buy special food for it from the vet
