Firewall on Xubuntu

I've just started to use linux, using the Xubuntu distro. I'd like to know where and how I can get a firewall configured for it so I'm safe from any nasties coming from the internet.

I'd suggest using iptables. It doesn't come with a GUI or anything, but type "man iptables" in a terminal window and read it.

You don't really need to bother with a firewall on Linux as there are no active virus' that target the Linux. :mrgreen:

Thats bad advice and you are wrong about no virus for Linux. Security through obscurity will never be good enough.

Yep, sorry about that. I was talking generally, what I should have said was;

 

 

 

Linux has very few virus', which are generally are harder to get when compared to Windows.

 

 

 

Again I'm sorry as I read a old article which I was referring to, "no active virus'" which stated that there where only proof of concept virus' and no "wild" virus'.

There are a several firewalls in synaptic. Install some of them and try them out and see which one you like best.
