April 20, 200719 yr OK, #-o Ive had this computer for a few years. Never had any real problems, quite fast at first, then slowed down a bit after a while, but nothing that was too much of a problem. Now, the computer is quite slow in loading My Computer or one of my Hard Drives. But most importantly, when i had a few programs open, IE7 + Photoshop + Word, I am unable to do many functions. Such as, i cant right click or click a link on IE7. Sometimes i cant even close an application. I think that the whole thing is to do with me only have 512mb SDRAM, but this never used to happen 2 months ago when i had numerous applications open. Ive uninstalled many programs, but to no affect. Im looking to get a new computer soon so im not too worried. But is it possible for computers to act like this? What could be the problem? I recently got a wireless keyboard and mouse, could that cause any problems in performance?
April 20, 200719 yr New hardware is unlikely to cause much in the way of performance problems. I'd start with virus/spyware scans, if that turns up nothing, try defragmenting your HD. Another, slightly unconventional problem I've had frequently is CPU temperature, but that's usually characterized with overall good performance, with a sudden drop in speed. Had to replace several fans on 2 of my machines. Just another idea. If all else fails, a reformat should solve your problems, but it takes a long time to back everything up and reload drivers
April 21, 200719 yr Author I think ill see how it goes, if it gets any worse, ill have to take action.
April 21, 200719 yr Scan for Viruses, defragment your computer and get more ram. You're computer should run fine after that. How Disk Defragmentor Works: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question548.htm Where to find Disk Defragmentor: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defgragmentor How Ram works: Picture yourself painting a house. The Store-shed (hard drive) is 2 miles away. Each time you leave the store shed, you bring one can of paint (Ram). Now think- The more ram you have, or in this case, the more paint you bring from the store-shed, the quicker your job will get done.
April 22, 200719 yr Author Thanks, I'll think about defragmenting, but I dont think I'll get more RAM, as I only have a 1Gb limit, and it would be SDRAM. Thanks again.
