Biabf
I got my computer for the 04/05 Xmas with 256MB of RAM and about 35GB of memory. At the moment I have about 5GB of memory left, I don't know whats filling it... I have about 11GB of music and 1 game of 2GB, that's pretty much it, what could be filling 15GB without me knowing? I've done Disk Defragmenters and they always help with about 1% and say the rest of my files can't be defragged... I've also done Disk Cleanup which helped quite a bit more. What else can I do to get more free space on my computer, no serious spending... Could I buy some memory quite cheap? (NOT memory sticks that only hold a few GBs)? Thanks. Cruiser
Download, install and run SpaceMonger (linked site is official distributor, relevant WP article). It builds a graphical picture of what is eating up your storage. Very useful. :D Edit: Forgot to link to the 1.x freeware version. The version linked above goes to the trial 2.x series. das1330
you dont need memory, you need a new hard drive (what you are referring to as holding 35 gb) A hard drive is fairly cheap, and you can get anywhere from a 80gb one for 50$ to a 500gb one for 150$. I have no idea where you live but on newegg (only ships to us) you can get a 320 gb drive for 79.99$ here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136074 note that before you buy any drive, look in you computer to see if you have an open hard drive bay (3.5 in bay) and if your computer uses IDE or SATA cables to connect the motherboard to the hard drive. IDE cables are long, usually grey cables that are flat and very wide, where SATA cables are usually thin, round cables that are red. Make sure you buy a drive that supports that format. my guess would be that your computer uses IDE cables however, given its age. Or if its a laptop or you don't want to open your computer, you can get a usb external hard drive like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822148233
si1ver4
another idea is an external hardrive. no problems with it being the wrong version and such, though if u can do it i would upgrade the internal first. gl
Mercifull
As for the thing thats eaten away all your space. Windows itself uses up several GB of HDD space as will any browsers you have and music players etc. 35GB isnt much these days so your best solution is to get another hard drive. If you dont know much about computers then getting an external one that simply connects via usb is probably the easiest solution for you.
