May 30, 200719 yr Author i dont know how the gts got on my list before as its $250 minimum without taxes and shipping costs, so those 3 i stated before are the best ones i can get, so out of those ones the XFX is the best one performance wise? its $10 cheaper than the EVGA but $10 more expensive then the gigabyte geforce, price is not a factor here because I can afford any of the 3. So my final pick is the XFX then? Edit: it seems people on the Ncix boards say that the 8600's are a joke and are not good, and that 7900's are way better. I looked up one and found a 7900 for $196 BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card i dont care about not being compatible for Dx10. Sorry for being a hassle :wall:
May 30, 200719 yr Well yes the 8600gt is a joke. Thats why I suggested the gts, but if you can't afford that, the 7900GS is still very good. I found the 7950GT for $252 before rebate ($213 after) if you can afford the $2 over budget, get it. It is a lot faster than the 7900GS, if not the 7900gs is still very good. 7950GT http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... CatId=1558 7900GS http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... CatId=1558
May 30, 200719 yr it's a pre overclocked card All cards are "pre-overclocked" - in the past, they pushed them to what they knew was safe, and if you wanted to risk it you could. Nowadays, they STILL push it to what they know is safe, they're just much better at knowing what's safe. Nowadays, they STILL push it to what they know is safe, they're just much better at knowing what's safe. Pre-overclocked means that the clock speeds are higher than the default. For example the normal 7900GS clocks on Nvidia's specs are 450 core and 1320 mem. The video card that he suggested (and I agreed with) has higher clocks than that.
May 30, 200719 yr Overclocking is the process of forcing a computer component to run at a higher clock rate than it was designed for or was designated by the manufacturer. By seeing the links, I see warranties provided by the manufacturers for the products. It would seem foolish of them to warranty something they do not designate the settings for. Therefore I can only conclude that while it is higher than normal, it is not over clocked, despite whatever advertising techniques tiger direct uses to sell its cards. ;-) Not to say it's not an awesome card, because it is, and it's going to perform very well most likely - just be careful not to deceive yourself when shopping around. :-) The refuge that you built to flee that places that you've come to fear the most ... is the place that you have come to fear the most.Operator - http://www.heartunit.orgCouncil - http://z8.invisionfree.com/skillazModerator - http://forum.meebo.com
May 30, 200719 yr Thats not just Tigerdirect's marketing scheme, it's the manufacturer's. The manufacturer basically buys the chips from Nvidia and the specs Nvidia suggests for the chip is what the manufacturer is suppose to go by. Although some decide to push it higher which I consider an overclock, which technically it is. Whether or not is overclocked or not by the company the chip will still have a limit on high it can clock, so it's better to get is "pre-overclocked" to have the warranty. Although you interpretation of an overclock is different than mine, they are both right :D .
May 31, 200719 yr I'll go with most of that :-) The refuge that you built to flee that places that you've come to fear the most ... is the place that you have come to fear the most.Operator - http://www.heartunit.orgCouncil - http://z8.invisionfree.com/skillazModerator - http://forum.meebo.com
