Mage level effect on my combat level?

Recommended Posts

I saw in another post something relating to prayer level and mage level and how they affect combat levels. I don't know what the post was or anything else about it since my attention span and short term memory are...

...I saw something about prayer levels and mage levels somewhere and I want to know how much my magic level will affect my combat level. I don't do any PKing, except on very rare occasions of oppurtunity when I'm running through the wilderness for fun and loot so I'm not too concerned with what my combat level is but I'd like to keep it so that I can guage my fighting ability easily in comparison to what I'm fighting. I think what I saw said somehing along the lines of my mage level not affecting my combat level as long as it's lower than my prayer.

I've been getting so many runes it's [developmentally delayed]ed lately and figured I might as well do some magic leveling. How does it all work?

Mage level doens't affect your combat level unless you are mage based. If you're mage level isn't the highest, it doesn't increase it until it's higher than them. I'm not sure how it works totally, but for me, my combat stats are all 70's, mage is 62, and it won't increase my mage level for like another 20-30 levels.

So I can pretty much take my mage up as high as I want as long as it's lower than my highest combat skill?

That's what I thought, but you can use the skill calculator and see how many mage levels you can get before you need to raise your melee levels.

Ok sounds good. How do I use the skill calculator though? I tried to use one once and I'm too stupid for things like that.

All you do is go to the tip.it homepage, click the special calcs link, than click the combat calc, once there type in your information (it asks for all your combat stats), then once they are entered, hit "tip me" and underenath it will tell you your current level and what needs to be gained in order to move up to the next level. I just did that and with my combat stats (all melee's 70), I need 98 mage to level up to 87 (im 86 now).

Depends on your mage level and your budget. You can try crumble undead (level 39) in varrock sewers, across the water from the skelles and go to town on them. Or you can try maging lessers in the Karamja Volcano. Or even just fire strike the people in the Port Sarim jail.

I'm gonna have to go out on a limb and assume those aren't the best places to start.

To start, you can try wind strike on the chickens in the Champions guild pen. Then go to water strike when you can, than earth strike, etc. That's how I started was on those chickens, then moved to goblins, than moved to guards, and then I went to the port sarim jail people when I was doing my f2p mage account.

not sure of exact ratios, but prayer and hp always affect cb lvl

whichever is highest-range, mage, (atk/str/def)

-the highest stats will decide ur cb lvl, however it can be like 60 in all mellee stats, then 80 mage without it changing ur lvl

try the tip.it site, on left column, under special calcs, click on combat calculator, and plug in numbers to find ur info.

Every 8 prayer levels will increase your combat level. Hp increases it the same as def would.

Just incase if this wasnt mentioned in the previous posts

Mage (and ranged as well) will only increase your combat level if your mage level *1.5 is higher than Attack and Strength combined. So if you have 80 maged, having 50 atk and 50 str would make you mage based, but not if you have 70 atk and 70 str.
