The Seaweed Guide

Intro

Last year Jim H* started ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâthe Seaweed Guide̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ on the official RS forums. It was kept up for a while, but after getting eaten by the 50-page monster it dropped into obscurity(and he has quit the game). This guide complements a part of RS that I would really like to see improved, the Crafting Skill. Seaweed is an integral part of making glass, which is both profitable and fun, avoiding much of the monotony of other skills.

In this guide I hope to accomplish the following:

-Faster Crafting XP for people who follow this guide

-An increased interest in Glass Making, and crafting in general

-A bigger Molten Glass / Unpowered Orb market

-Higher demand for Battlestaffs

-A craftable battle staff update

Part 1: What is Seaweed

There are two types of seaweed in the game, Seaweed and Edible Seaweed. I will be concentrating on normal seaweed in this guide, (but see the note below for Edible Seaweed.) Seaweed is one of the two main ingredients in molten glass, a requirement for glass making. Seaweed and Buckets of sand can be made directly into molten using Lunar Magics, or you can use it on a fire or range to make soda ash if you can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t cast the Superglass Make spell.

A note on Edible Seaweed:

You can get this as a drop from the rock crabs or from the Fishing Trawler mini game.

Part 2: Seaweed Locations

Rellekka 9 spawns.

Entrana: 10 spawns (you can only easily get 8 though, in order to get all 10 you will need to telegrab the 2 out in the water).

Karamja: 15 spawns, but they are all over the island.

Boats: 20 in stock, 5gp each

You can also get seaweed by big net fishing and killing rock crabs. The edible seaweed dropped by rock crabs is fine as well and will make soda ash just like regular seaweed.

Part 3: The Fastest Seaweed collection Method

The fastest Seaweed collection in the game is done in Rellekka. You will need 25-35 Enchanted Lyres and another wearable form of teleportation. If you dropped yours, or don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know how to make them, check out my other guide 'The Enchanted Lyre Guide' for a detailed information on them.

Your outfit is up to you, but in order to get 700 seaweed an hour, you will need to be running as much as possible, so boots of lightness, spottier cape, energy potions, and gloves are highly recommended.

Use your lyre to teleport to the entrance of Rellekka, run to the east, then north to the coast when you clear the city wall. There are nine seaweed spawns there. Be sure to use a server that has at least 1,600 people playing at the same time, or the seaweed will not respawn fast enough. Start at one end and begin picking up seaweed until you are full.

Glory tele to Edge or Duel ring to CW bank then play your lyre again to get back out to Rellekka. Using everything I mentioned here you should be able to collect 700 seaweed an hour.

Turbo Tip:

Keep an eye out for people training on rock crabs there. 2-4 seaweed drops from the crabs in not uncommon, and grabbing 4 at once really speeds things up.

Part 4: Other Collection Methods

Fairy Rings:

If you have completed Fairy Tail part 2, then you can also use the fairy rings to get out there. The code is AJR. This is the second fastest method in the game. One benefit here for those without 77 mage is that there is a range right near the bank in the Lost City that you can use to make soda ash quickly. This is however only effective if you are collecting/cooking less than 550 seaweed (for more than that it is faster to cook them in the Rogue̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Den).

Entrana:

This was the best place to collect Seaweed for a long time, and I still collect here every once in a while. If you have 54 or higher RC, this can also be an effective way to cross-train. Wear: Glory, law tiara, air staff and 28 unnoted ess. Craft the ess into laws then collect the seaweed. If you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t have 54 RC, it is also a good way to make money by using world 66 Law crafting company. If you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know them, they will provide you with 27 free laws and noted ess if you trade 27 un-noted ess.

Here are the top six ways to get from Entrana to a bank. (This information was taken with permission from the World 66 Law Crafting company thread.)

1. Fastest way to get laws (ABYSS)

Get glory amulets or use Ancient Magic and teleport to Edgeville and bank there. Get your pure essence and enter the Abyss and use the law altar exit. (This method is very fast but also very dangerous).

2. Fast safe way to get laws (CASTLE WARS) needs logs, dueling rings and enlightened journey quest

To use this route you need:

- 1 Normal log to go from CW balloon station to Entrana

- Dueling ring to return to CW bank

3. Fast way to get laws (DRAYNOR)

Get glory amulets and teleport to Draynor village and bank there. Get your pure essence and run back to the law altar.

4. Medium way to get laws (FALADOR)

Teleport to Falador and bank there. Get your pure essence and run back to the law altar. With the new Construction update, you can use teleport tablets use the Falador route and so save inventory space.

5. Slow way to get laws (PEST CONTROL / VOID KNIGHT)

Use Southernmost dock in Port Sarim to get to PC (talk to squire). Bank, get your pure ess and take the two boat trips back to Entrana.

6. Slow way to get laws (DRAYNOR)

Run to Draynor village and bank there. Get your pure essence and run back to the law altar.

Part 5: Seaweed to Soda Ash?

Until Lunar Magics, the only way to make molten was from soda ash and sand. Now with the level 77 Superglass Make spell, you can make it directly from seaweed. Be careful not to have normal and edible seaweed at the same time when casting this spell because you will not get a full yield.

Using seaweed on a range or fire makes soda ash. It never burns, so just click cool all and let it cook. The fastest place to cook your seaweed into soda ash is the Rogue̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Den.

Part 6: FAQ

Work in progress (Someone ask me a question).

Part 7: Reflections of an adamantite longsword

A battle staff has the same melee stats as an Addy Long. I can only ask myself ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅWhy?̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

I always thought Piscatoris was quickest for gathering Seaweed since it is the closest to a bank and I believe it has an unlimited supply of seaweed.

yes there is a respawn but its insanely slow because of 1 or maybe 2 spawns.

Good guide, might help me to get high craft. Gonna have to wait for pictures for complete rate.

Kama, I'm gonna both disapoint you and make you cry for so much lost time.. :)

There is a way faster way than Lyre and A J R...

Try the fairy code DKS :) You will appear 1 click away from the seaweed

To go back either walk back to bank in Zanaris (No biggies) Or glory to edgeville and go back on the fairy ring

edit : Im not sure its faster than the Lyres on the long run, needs testing. But its way faster than A J R lol :XD:

Personally, I'm kinda tired of all these item guides, but this one's interesting. I don't think this is the best way to lvl crafting, but it is certainly a well-researched guide. 7/10, b/c the content isn't terrbly useful.

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

AMEN!

Aoe - I will get right on to checking that combination out and doing some time trials and updating the guide with your info. I actually did the vast majority of my crafting well before the fairy rings and balloons came out so I collected seaweed at Entrana. Now that is a waist of time. I did get to collect quite a few laws though.

Blood - I gave up after searching Piscatoris for the seaweed spawn ther for ten minutes. (I might just have been standing directly on top of it, but still couldn't find it). Either way before I got up the 'urge' to search for it again it became appearant that collection was pretty slow so I didn't bother going any further.

Seaweed doesnt "Spawn" there :) You collect them from nets at the north-east corner

Edit: Did a quick test, fishing colony not worth it.. Takes 3:30 for a full load-bank
