From my xperience i believe that they use all 3 attack styles (tried to mage them,metal dragon style, and they still hit me good with range/mage,depending on the prayer i used)

They use magic attacks, so pro from mage. You dont need an elemental shield if you have the mage prayer on.

melee, mage prayer will have no effect against them as most players stated.
