It's called leet speak.

 

 

 

31337 = elite, or 1337 leet for short.

Black as midnight, Black as pitch, Blacker than the foulest Witch.

I think it means leet (1337). There exists a purile way of speaking where one replaces letters with numbers in order to look really clever, i.e. A=4, E=3, T=7, O=0 etc. and it's called "leet speak (1337 sp34k)". :-k
