Those speeds.. on offpeak times, on a supposedly 8mbps connection..

I really am getting pissed off with my ISP now. This happens every so often for days at a time with no warning.

So i want to know - do you guys think i have a right to complain to the ISP about their randomly slowing down connection?

I would. Thats some really poor speeds for suposidly an 8mbps connection, 900 latency is horrid.

yeah... WoW was running at 4k latency earlier.. its gone down a little now, but i still cant do any instances because of the lag.

Many ISPs will have small print next to their connection speed that says something along the lines of "This speed is not guaranteed". So, complaining may not get you anywhere, but it's still worth a try.

If you have a router, make sure you tested that it isn't causing the bottleneck. Plug directly into the modem (with a firewall on of course :P ) and run the speed test again. If it runs much faster, you have a bad router.

After that's been done and you know for sure the router isn't the problem, most defiantly call the ISP.

Also see if you are not causing the problem yourself...

95% of all the pcs worldwide are infected with spyware and adware wich can slow down your connection.

Try running Spybot: Search&Destroy or Ad-Aware.

its a combined modem / router. Came with the connection package - if it is that - then it is definitely the ISPs fault

Well mine will be one of the free 5%. I run a very tight PC. I know exactly what all of the processes running at any given time are on my machine. I do not have any spyware.. end of.

also - spybot isnt that good. Spyhunter and a decent registry scanner will do much better.

oof... that much latency has got to mean theres quality control issues going on... the lines your connected to probably is on the frizt. How far are you from the "station". Theres no excuse they could have for that bad of ping...

It says 200 miles acording to the test :P

thats the distance from the speedtest server (its the closest one available)

I'd argue otherwise but that isn't what we're here for. :P

After everything else here, I'd say its time to call the ISP.

what i meant by station is that there is usually a localized building in your area to house the ISP eqipment etc. think of it as an electric substation for the internet.

cable or DSL?

usually the farther away you are from the localized building the worse your ping will be. Im quite far away, over 5 miles and theres a smaller tower between me and the main building so my ping isnt any better than 130-150ms
