Final opinions on this system I am building?

Great stuff, blade, but do you have any for an AMD Athlon 3600?

You could just search tomshardware forums :P .

I personally have not used this guide, but it seems decent. When I had an AMD 64 I just figured it out myself, they are a lot easier than the Intel chips.

Ok I got everything today except the case which is coming thursday.

However the hard drive did not come with a SATA cable or power cable. I'm probably just going to get those at best buy and was wondering what to look out for. I found what a SATA cable would be (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812104150) but IDK about the power. Figured that comes with the drive :/.

Well you bought an OEM hard drive which means it comes with just the hard drive (and sometimes a manual). The SATA cables should have came with the motherboard or atleast a few of them should. Thats if you got a retail motherboard and not an OEM.

Ah ok, I'll look in that now!

edit: it did.

I got the case a bit late today (7:00PM) so I'm going to build the PC tomorrow after I get off work :).

Its a bit larger than my current but oh well.

It's good that you're building it yourself, saving money, but weak computer

How is that a weak computer? Granted it's not super high end because it would be triple the price. The parts he picked out will run any game on high settings except for a few. You don't have to spend $5000 to have a good computer.

Mind saying how its weak?

It blows my current out of the watter, and keep in mind that my current can run many games on all highs. This one I'll overclock a bit and it'll be great, and the good thing is it is plenty upgradeable as well. :)

Anyways I'm building the machine tomorrow. I was a bit worried about the size of the case (thought it was smaller) but I figure this is fine. Its a really damn sturdy case too, and has plenty of room for good air flow.

Bah, the motherboard shield isn't quite working with this case. I think I might be going to best buy and instead try and get a different one, return this..

How do you mean the motherboard shield isn't right?

I have a stupid question. Are you using the motherboard shield that came with the motherboard and not the one that came with the case? The one that comes with the case is useless.

It was the one with the motherboard.

We did a stupid mistake though, didn't have the little things that go on under the motherboard to give it some height. :wall: :wall: :wall:

Ah well the new case I got is a really nice case, much better than the one I had gotten from newegg.

Got that for only $80 at this little computer store!

Sucess!

I'm installing windows right now. We ended up not putting in the Ninja scythe cooler (tried to but it was just not working out. Our first real system we've fully built so didn't want to mess something up) so I'm going with the stock cooling for now.

The case its self is running nice and cool at the moment, I'm formating the drive for windows to install and what not. Other than that everything went fairly decently, tough for a first time though. :)

Hopefully in a couple hours I'll have all the drivers set up and have some stuff installed again. :P
