Guitar!

Hey guys, I recently purchased a fairly cheap guitar, an Epiphone Les Paul Special II. I'm going to use this until I have the money for like an Explorer or something similar. By recently I mean like a week or so ago. Any tips for beginners to the electric guitar scene?

I'm also going to take lessons, which start tomorrow.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

Yeah I've heard good things about that. I'll either get a Gibson Explorer or an Epiphone Explorer, mainly because I really like the look of it and...James Hetfield of Metallica has one and I'm a wannabe. Hehe.

Umm...any suggestions on amps? I have a little 10w practice amp that gets kinda scratchy at higher volumes. It'll do for now.

You want to buy a REAL Gibson Explorer?

You can EASILY drop $1,000 on any kind of Gibson, if its the look that you want then just buy a cheap version, kind of like how Epiphone Les Paul is to Gibson Les Paul

BTW, I paid $2,100 for my Gibson Les Paul Standard. Thats how much Gibson guitars are

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ is all you need to be honest.

If you hear a song, look up the tabs and practice. I'd recommend learning some scales and stuff as well, they'll come in handy later for improvising and will improve your technique in the meantime.

Try and get 2 to 3 songs on the go and learn them perfectly. Start off slowly and build up your speed. Focus on technique inititally. Flair will come.

Most importantly though, have fun!

The best way to get better is to hear something you like and work it out. Also if you know anyone else that plays play along with them and don't listen to these crappy guitar mags like total guitar. Do stuff for yourself, but start easy. You won't be playing a mixolydian sweep in a week. Great that youve picked up the guitar though. AND DONT LET PEOPLE SAY YOU CANT PLAY.
