RebelAssassin
i recently bought some ram for my PC (1gig) so i can play BF2 and other games without any more lag, and it works. Problem is whenever im playing every 5 minutes or so my CPU fan will become load for around 30 seconds and cause the game to lag, making it near unplayable. is there anyway i can turn off the fan? www.PETAkillsanimals.com
dsavi
Turning off the fan is the last thing you want to do right now. And it isn't the fan that's making your computer lag. Details please? If you want to keep the game from lagging, shut down any unneccesay programs (chats, e-mail, browsers, etc) so that BF2 is pretty much the only thing running. What CPU do you have? Go to Start->run->dxdiag[Caution: Executable File] .
blade995
It's probably not your fan thats making it loud. It's probably your hard drive spinning up that makes it loud and causing the lag. To play BF2 without lag you need 1.5-2GBs of ram and since you only have 1GB it's swapping off the page file thats on the hard drive which is very slow compared to physical ram. Well you took the heatsink off the processor and did not change the thermal paste? You always need to change the paste when removing the heatsink. The fan should not fully shut off anyway. If it's spinning faster than before the processor is getting hotter than it was before.

blade995
well, i havent cleaned my PC since i got it nearly 3 years ago i think that thermal paste is gone now. Don't tell me you wiped the paste off? Then put the heatsink back on with nothing there? That would be even worse because there would be gaps of air in between them that will get extreamly hot. nomar04
You will want to use that computer as little as possible, get onto newwgg.com type in thermal paste, and buy one syringe of it. ton't be too cheap, or else it won't work as well. i say go to newegg, because they are really fast. i have ordered something in the morning, and it came next afternoon, and most things come within two days of ordering.
