Well, i haven't played runescape in a while, but the other day in world 1, there were these folks going around saying "free [insert item here], just show me your inventory so i can get the amount right", or something to that effect.

 

Seeing that these people tend to be low levels, I smelled something fishy. Is this a scam? If so, I don't get it; what is it all about?

suposdly there is this glitch that when u show them ur invo they get it and u get lobs so yes it is a scam

1) Get members & stay out of FTP

 

2) Ignore Them or Use Ignore List

 

3) Don't report because It's useless.

So they get whatever i hold in my inventory? I should try it with empty vials or something.....Or ill just ignore them....

Lol I don't think there is a glitch. I think it is meant for players that don't really look at the second trade screen because they are too happy that they are getting free lobbies. When they show their inventory, most people don't think to take out the items and just click "Accept". Well that can be a problem. Because then they get your stuff and you are stuck with 12 lobbies. I caught myself on the second screen.....with my lvl 7 merchant account.....with 1m cash, full wiz t, and magic amulet t. That could have turned out really bad.

yea, i've seen that today in edge, and i didn't know what was happening.

Its not a scam, because technically you're making a fair trade, they say they're giving lobs and you volunteer to put your stuff up. You can put up tons of runes then swith it for a few to scam them and get their lobs :)

Variation of this scam happens all the time at fast "mechanic" trade locations, such as W16 air company. You are so used that every single trade is a standard 2k+25 noted ess vs 25 unnoted ess, that you tend to just put your end and hit accept to save time, and occasionally scammers just accept it too and if they are lucky you won't pay attention at second screen either. Not that you'll lose alot (just 2k + 25 ess), but they do it to many people one after another.

 

 

 

Can't report them, because all they do is offer you a trade, and implied things don't work with reporting (has to be explicit lie or deception), so I just add them to ignore list so they can't trade me anymore.

and the human mind gets into an excitment rush and clicks accpet at the enjoy ment of getting free stuff.

Just thought I'd point out a slight variation on this, people offering maxing with dharoks at the duel arena will offer you food, just show them your inventory so they get the right amount... -.-

It is a scam, the same thing is happening in P2P with sharks.

 

 

 

Just don't trade anyone who says Free [insert itme here} show your inventory.

 

 

 

Try and spread the word so the scammers get banned by JaGex.

I've seen these people put up 28 lobs, and i try to trade a chisel. They dont accept for some strange reason :-w.

 

But what is sad is that since it isnt technically a scam, ive seen quite a few high levels (as in 90+) do it. :shame:

It is CONSIDERED A SCAM. I was messing around with some noobs on my merchant account....santa and full mage g. I said it out loud. I logged on to change worlds and it said my account was disabled. No lie. If you want to see, i can show you a screenie of the "Evidence".
