LordSmiloid
"Gold farming" is an increasingly common problem in RS. Basically, workshops are set up (usually in countries where labor is low cost, such as in southeast Asia) and a group of people are trained to raise skills and collect materials in the game. They finish Tutorial Island, grab a hatchet, and immediately begin their careers cutting valuable trees or mining rocks. The users are not allowed to chat or respond, and will spend all their time collecting items. Then, the items are given to "trading" accounts which sell the resources for GP. The GP is then sold illegally on websites for real money. This system is popular because human users are more reliable and intelligent than macros. It also means that there is a large number of unfortunate individuals forced to play a game for long hours with unfair pay. In short: don't buy RS items for real world money. meol
I don't know if you get it that well, but they are exploited and are only allowed to do one task in their whole life time. This signature is intentionally left blank.
LordSmiloid
Haha, um, no. They're probably in high-population, low-per-capita countries such as China, Indonesia, or India, to guess a few. And it's not a job you want. You must sit in a chair and chop yews for 14+ hours straight, and you will probably receive a daily pay of either a bowl of rice or 25 cents. No chatting or getting off task - do either, and you're back on the street. Sound fun still?

kdb148
I don't know if you get it that well, but they are exploited and are only allowed to do one task in their whole life time. Exploitation is very relative. Pay that seems low to people in developed countries might not be so low in a developing country like China. Especially if the choice the people working there have is between playing runescape for a little money or some food, or not having any money or food. Nobody is forcing people to work for gold farmers. In fact, you could argue that gold farmers are giving people work who otherwise might not be able to buy food. Amaranth_GTO
Where do they live i want to get paid to play runescape lucky lucky people #-o #-o #-o :shame: :shame: =; :notalk: -.- NO YOU DONT! First, its against the rules. Second, you would spend like 10 hours a day playing runescape and not be able to do anything but skill or kill green dragons or something. Last, the goldfarmers have horrible working conditions and are the most hated part of the runescape community. Not exactly lucky...
Archduke_Robert
Where do they live i want to get paid to play runescape lucky lucky people They're mostly from China (like everything else). While you may make money that will allow you to live there (lower cost of living), your quality of life will probably be lower. A game sweatshop is a business concerned with making and selling accounts and in-game currency on MMORPGs. The term can also refer to a building containing computers installed with MMORPGs (e.g. RuneScape, etc), which generate money for the business. Laborers work on the computers to either collect in-game currency or to generate high-level characters. Organizations run like this are referred to as sweatshops because misinformed people think the gold farmers usually make very little money. This is usually the result of so-called experts informing their audience how much money in USD/Euro a farmer makes, while ignoring that, once converted into the farmers national currency and put into perspective, the salary of the farmer is average or, in some cases, above average for his locale. Game sweatshops make their business selling the gold or characters online through auction sites such as eBay. This is often referred to as gold farming, where the character is not "playing the game" in its usual definition, but is "playing" the game in an attempt to either create a better character, either for that player, or to generate virtual value to exchange for other things, virtual or otherwise. Game sweatshops also greatly affect the economies of MMORPGs. An example of this is RuneScape. Around late 2006 to early 2007, there was a great increase of sweatshops that sold RuneScape currency. The laborers in these sweatshops work repetitively, which brings is a massive inflow of products into the economy. Following the laws of supply and demand, prices of specific items greatly decreased, while others increased. So while it is true that gold farmers affect the economy, there is no conclusive evidence to show they negatively affect the economy. 100 hours of "sweatshop" gold farming has the exact same impact that 100 hours of normal player gold farming has. On the May 1, 2007 the game RuneScape released information regarding Chinese and Korean sweatshops making money by playing the game repetitively (or the use of Cheat Macros) and selling the online gold for real world money.[2] It should be noted that this article alleged that "If you...buy RuneScape gold you are directly funding...underground gangs who run Chinese sweatshops." It appears that this is a baseless guess on the part of Jagex Inc.
